UCF Knights (9-12) vs Memphis Tigers (18-5)
Wednesday February 12
FedEx Forum – Memphis, TN

Spread: Memphis -15.5
This is not going to be a season to celebrate down in Orlando. Whereas the program was a bit on the rise in Conference USA they have stumbled with the move to the AAC, at least on the hardwood. The Knights have lost their last 8 games in a row and have just one conference win this season – against Temple. They lost to Memphis at home earlier in the year by 10.
F Isaiah Sykes is one of the more productive players in the league but his production is a little bit down this season. He had a big game with 24 and 12 the last time they played Memphis, but only one other player scored more than 8 points, which is the core of the Knights problems this season. Sykes is leading the team in scoring, rebounding and assists but the latter is problematic because he is not a natural distributor.
UCF is one of the worst ATS in the country at 3-12. They are equally bad at home and on the road and have never had much success against Memphis having lost the last 6 in row, never covering a single number over that stretch. I get a little antsy giving up this much chalk but I don’t see the case for the Knights.
With SMU knocking off Cincinnati earlier in the week the standings in AAC got a lot tighter. Memphis is sitting in 4th place right now but with games left against all of the teams above them they can be in the picture for the regular season title if they can get on a roll. Any loss makes that very unlikely and this one would be be completely inexplicable.
There is no question the Tigers are the more talented team and maybe the most talented team in the conference. I like what I am seeing from PG Joe Jackson as a senior but he has to start shooting the ball better for this team to realize any real goals this season. Look out for athletic forward Nick King, I think he could be a big time producer in the future when his time comes.
The Tigers won and covered their last two games including an impressive performance against Gonzaga last weekend. They really locked up the Zags which tells me this team might be peaking right now. They don’t need a top performance to beat the Knights to cover.
