Pacific Division rivals San Jose and Los Angeles tie up on Wednesday night as the two jockey for position atop the division.
San Jose smoked the Kings in five games in last year’s post season and beat the Kings in San Jose earlier this year to hold a firm dominance over their state rivals.
San Jose Sharks
Just months removed from a trip to the Stanley Cup final, the Sharks haven’t shown many signs of slowing down as they sport a respectable 12-9-1 record (as of Tuesday evening) and are in the hunt for top spot in the Pacific Division.
The torch has officially been passed as Joe Pavelski and Brent Burns lead the charge on offense (though Burns is a defenceman). The seemingly ageless Joe Thornton isn’t a slouch himself though, as at 37 years old, Jumbo Joe still sits third in team scoring with 13 points through 22 games.
One play who does need to get it going is Logan Couture, who is off to a bit of a slow start to the season. Couture is 10 years Thornton’s junior, but has one less point and is -2 on the season while Joe is +2.
Expect Aaron Dell to get his fourth start of the season on Wednesday night as the team’s regular starter Martin Jones played Tuesday evening and will likely get the night off on the back end of back to back games. Dell might not be a household name but he sports a 2-1-0 record and a GAA of 1.93 and a .931 SV%.
Los Angeles Kings
This is definitely a game that the Kings have circled on their calendars as they’ve been waiting a long time for some retribution against this Sharks team.
A game at home against a Sharks team that played the night before is prime pickings for a Kings team that is one of the hottest in the NHL right now. Los Angeles has won five straight games coming into Wednesday’s contest and are coming off a win over the Chicago Blackhawks.
That win over the Blackhawks came all the way back on Sunday as well, so this is a well-rested Kings team looking to keep their streak rolling along.
Even in the absence of star goalie Jonathan Quick, the Kings are a formidable team in the Western Conference and shouldn’t be taken lightly despite missing their number one goalie.
They’ve given up their share of goals with 54 against in 22 games, which is a bit unlike the Kings, but that’s understandable given their goalie situation. Peter Budaj has filled in admirably though with Quick out and second stringer Jeff Zatkoff also going down with injury.

Free San Jose Sharks vs. Los Angeles Kings NHL Hockey Prediction:
The Pacific Division is not for the faint of heart and this is a huge task for the Sharks. Going into the Staples Center to play a hot team, after you’ve played the previous night…that’s a massive task and I think the Sharks are in some trouble.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Los Angeles
As mentioned above, the Kings want retribution against this Sharks team. The Kings bowed out of the playoffs at the hands of the Sharks and lost back in October to this same team. This is the one where the Kings get some measure of revenge.
