The Sharks absolutely dominated game 4, responding to even the series at 2-2 heading back to Edmonton. The crucial game 5 will apply the pressure to the other team for the remainder of the series, so expecting a tighter match than Tuesday’s 7-0 affair is a good bet.
It was all San Jose all night on Tuesday, seeing the Sharks jump to a quick 1-0 lead just 15 seconds into game 4 and never looking back. Joe Pavelski and Logan Couture were driving forces behind the offensive surge, each scoring a pair of goals and Pavelski chipping in an assist as well.
Defensive star, Brent Burns, accounted for three assists on route to the biggest playoff shutout win the NHL has witnessed in a decade. There were a number of different Sharks’ bests in this game, with the first goal being the fastest in franchise history and the overall victory being the largest.
Martin Jones needed just 23 saves to earn his fourth career playoff shutout. Jones has performed admirably in the 2017 postseason, carrying a 1.25 GAA and a .950 SV% heading in to game 5.
There was no Zack Kassian game-winning magic in the fourth contest of the series, nor was there any Edmonton magic really. The 7-0 loss was a stain on what has otherwise been a close series, so Edmonton will try to regroup from the one-off and come out strong in front of the home crowd again.
Connor McDavid is in unfamiliar territory, currently having just half of a point-per-game in the series so far. While the Sharks have done everything in their power to limit him, expect a big game 5 from the phenom and his speed to be a big factor.
Cam Talbot has been an MVP for Edmonton all season, but had an off-night on Tuesday and subsequently getting pulled to preserve him for the rest once the game was out of hand. Talbot entered game 4 with a 0.98 GAA and a .964 SV%, but has seen those marks fall to 2.22 and .925, respectively.

Free San Jose Sharks vs Edmonton Oilers NHL Playoff Prediction:
Back to back shutouts in the series, though each being a very different statement, seeing game 5 head back to Oil country all evened up at two games apiece. Game 4 was one for the San Jose record books, but don’t expect more of the same in game 5.
A proven winner and tough competitor, look for Connor McDavid to turn it up a notch and carry his team on his back in game 5. After being embarrassed on Tuesday, it’s easy to see the team come out hungry at home.
