Tampa Bay heads home on the heels of an impressive 2-0 road victory in Sunday night having beaten the Rangers at their own game in the critical Game 5. It won’t be easy for the Lightning – Henrik Lundqvist is 14-3 record with a 1.39 goals-against average and .956 save percentage in his last 17 games when the Rangers are facing elimination.

The New York Rangers offense ground to a halt in Game 5 after scoring five goals in each of the two games prior to Sunday night’s contest. The Rangers were unable to generate much in the offensive zone in Game 5 – their scorching power play that had been 6-for-13 in two games failed to convert on four chances and their best players were underwhelming to say the least.
The good news for New York is the aforementioned play of Henrik Lundqvist in elimination games. He and the rest of the team were sensational in the three elimination games they faced in the second round against Washington – nothing seems to faze the President’s Trophy winners. Some more good news comes in the form of New York’s last game at Tampa – a convincing 5-1 win in Game 4.
New York has been resilient all season long and can never be counted out – that’s for sure. They are experienced and are a roster that seems to be built for this time of year.
The Tampa Bay Lightning played the perfect road game on Sunday night and hope to carry that momentum over to Tuesday night’s Game 6. Unlike the Rangers, Tampa’s best players were their best players on Sunday night and the results reflect that fact.
Steve Stamkos recorded a goal and an assist in Game 5, The “Triplets” line of Tyler Johnson, Ondrej Palat and Nikita Kucherov who have combined for 25 of Tampa’s 44 goals in the playoffs was still dangerous but they have somehow been held off the score sheet in the last two games. Tampa has arguably the two most potent lines in the series right now – scary offensively.
Ben Bishop answered a lot of questions for Tampa Bay in Game 5 – his play Sunday night has regained trust among the Lightning faithful. He had given up 10 goals in back-to-back games at home before shutting out the Rangers on Sunday night. Bishop’s play has been a tad sketchy at home in the playoffs however – he is just 5-4 with a 2.61 GAA and .897 save percentage in nine home games this postseason.

The Lightning have won six of their last eight games against New York, including the regular season. But the Rangers are 3-0 in elimination games this postseason.
Something tells me that this series isn’t over just yet- New York is just too professional a team to bow out at this point. New York is at their best when their backs are against the wall – I expect their best on Tuesday night. This series is going 7!
