Islanders Test Their Mettle Against The Bruins
New York Islanders @ Boston Bruins – Thursday April 11, 2013 7:00PM EST
The New York Islanders are one of the surprises of the 2013 NHL season. The betting world never expected the Islanders to make any kind of playoff run this season, but the young team has pulled itself together to make things interesting in the Eastern Conference. With the help of veteran goaltender Evgeni Nabokov, the Islanders are holding firmly onto the eighth and final playoff spot in the conference. But with at least four other teams in hot pursuit of that final spot, the Islanders know that they will have to keep winning to make the postseason.
The Boston Bruins never had a doubt in their minds that they would make it into the playoffs after this shortened season. The betting sites have not seen the Bruins this focused on a Stanley Cup run in a long time. The team cleared its first hurdle when goaltender Tuukka Rask was able to step in and become the number one goalie after the unexpected departure of Tim Thomas. Then the Bruins went out and brought in veteran Jaromir Jagr at the trade deadline to strengthen up its lineup. The only setback has been the injury to Patrice Bergeron, but the Bruins will not let that slow them down.
New York Islanders
The New York Islanders are the exact opposite of what an NHL team normally is. The Islanders have a home record of 8-11-2, but they have a road record of 11-5-2. The online sports betting experts do not normally see a team do that, especially a young team like the Islanders. That tendency to win on the road will help make New York more competitive for this game. The Bruins know that they will have to take the Islanders seriously and the Islanders have upset on their minds.
At 14-2-2, the Boston Bruins have the second best home record in the league just behind San Jose’s 14-1-5. A sportsbook review of Boston’s season shows that the Bruins don’t really care where they are playing. Boston’s only two home losses have come to the Buffalo Sabres, which means that the Islanders do not pose the same threat to Boston that Buffalo would. The Islanders play a strong game on the road, but the Bruins have a physical style at home that makes them difficult to play.
The Bottom Line
The Boston Bruins look to be a very difficult team to play in the postseason, while the New York Islanders are just hoping to make the playoffs. The Islanders still have some developing to do before the team can become a legitimate Stanley Cup contender, but that does not mean that the Islanders do not have a few tricks up their sleeves for the Boston Bruins.
