***2015 BONUSES***The MLB season is nearly two months old and both the White Sox and Blue Jays have stumbled out of the starter’s blocks in the early going. Each team finds themselves bringing up the rear in their division, but the Jays have to be feeling a little better about their standing as the AL East looks to be a toss up this year and at five games below the .500 mark, Toronto sits just 3.5 games out of first. The Sox meanwhile are a mere four games below .500 but are already eight games out of top spot in the AL Central.White SoxChicago will turn to lefty hurler John Danks (2-4) tonight in hopes of stopping a potent Jays offense that has woken up of late. The Sox lost the series opener 6-0 to push their skid to six losses in their last seven games. The offense for Chicago is just not clicking at all right now and the big bats of Jose Abreu, former Blue Jay Melky Cabrera and Adam LaRoche have been very slow to get started in the 2015 season. Those three have accounted for just 12 home runs in a combined 120+ games and Abreu accounts for seven of those on his own.Danks has a lifetime record against the Jays that matches his season win/loss record at 2-4 and sports a 5.70 ERA lifetime against Toronto. The 30-year-old southpaw was banged around his last time out last Thursday against Cleveland where he was dinged for five earned runs over five and 1/3 innings, surrendering six hits and four walks.Chicago went 5-2 against the Jays last season.Blue JaysThere is some light shining through for this Jays team that has struggled to find consistency thus far. The bats have come alive recently and have hung 27 runs on the board in their last five games. In that stretch the Jays have managed to go 3-2.R.A. Dickey (2-5) takes the hill tonight looking to follow up a stellar complete game his last time out against the Angels where he gave up just five hits and walked only two while striking out seven. Like the Jays as a whole, Dickey has struggled to maintain consistency early on, but historically he’s been a bit shaky in April/May and looks like he may be coming around now.The knuckleballer couldn’t ask for a better matchup tonight as the struggling Sox have scored just nine runs in their last five games. Dickey has been very prone to giving up the long ball but that may not be a concern for him tonight as the Sox sit 28th in the MLB with just 27 home runs as a team. Dickey however has not fared well against the White Sox and has a gaudy 8.10 ERA in nine career meetings and a 2-4 record that matches that of Danks’ versus the Jays.
White Sox vs. Blue Jays 4* Free PickNeither pitcher boasts an impressive record against his opposition so this game looks like it’ll come down to who swings the bats better. In that case all signs should point to a Jays win as they’ve been knocking the ball around and could get Jose Bautista back in the lineup tonight after a two-game absence. If Dickey can provide six strong innings the Jays then Toronto should come out with a victory in this one. Take Toronto.
