10-28-23 | Diamondbacks +1.5 v. Rangers | Top | 9-1 | Win | 100 | 10 h 12 m | Show |
Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Merrill Kelly has a tall task on tap in Game 2 of the World Series against the Texas Rangers on Saturday in Arlington, Texas. Kelly (2-1, 2.65 ERA in the postseason) will have to subdue Corey Seager and Adolis Garcia in order to help the Diamondbacks gain a split of the first two road contests of the best-of-seven series. Seager tied Game 1 with a two-run homer in the ninth inning and Garcia went deep in the 11th to give the Rangers a 6-5 victory on Friday. (FLM) |

10-27-23 | Diamondbacks +1.5 v. Rangers | Top | 5-6 | Win | 100 | 7 h 17 m | Show |
Texas Rangers right-hander Nathan Eovaldi could etch his name in the record books on Friday when he takes the mound for Game 1 of the World Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Arlington, Texas. Eovaldi (4-0, 2.42 ERA) is aiming to become the first pitcher to win five starts in the playoffs. Randy Johnson (2001), Francisco Rodriguez (2002) and Stephen Strasburg (2019) have recorded five wins in a single postseason, but each of the three pocketed a victory in relief. Eovaldi, 33, allowed two runs on five hits in 6 1/3 innings in a 9-2 victory over the Houston Astros in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series on Sunday. The Texas native has struck out 28 batters against just four walks in 26 innings in the postseason. Although Eovaldi is making his first career start in a World Series, it's not his only appearance in the Fall Classic. He made three relief appearances with the Boston Red Sox in the 2018 World Series versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was the loser of the epic 18-inning Game 3 when he served up Max Muncy's walk-off homer. Eovaldi allowed two runs (one earned) and three hits in six-plus innings of relief in that game. |

10-23-23 | Diamondbacks v. Phillies -1.5 | Top | 5-1 | Loss | -100 | 29 h 4 m | Show |
10-17-23 | Diamondbacks +1.5 v. Phillies | Top | 0-10 | Loss | -150 | 8 h 52 m | Show |
Merrill Kelly (1-0, 0.00 ERA this postseason) is slated to start for the Diamondbacks against Aaron Nola (2-0, 1.42) in a battle of right-handers. The Phillies took the series lead Monday night, when they held off a series of late rallies by the Diamondbacks to record a 5-3 win. Kyle Schwarber homered on the first pitch of the home half of the first and Bryce Harper -- celebrating his 31st birthday -- went deep two batters later for Philadelphia. Another long ball by Nick Castellanos -- his fifth in three games -- helped the Phillies extend what eventually became a 5-0 lead in the fifth. |
|||||||
10-15-23 | Rangers +1.5 v. Astros | Top | 2-0 | Win | 100 | 31 h 48 m | Show |
Texas has outscored their opponents by 20 runs through their first five games in the postseason, which is the second-biggest differential through a team's first five games in a playoff. That trails only the 2019 Yankees, who began with a +22 differential. The Rangers have 23 extra-base hits through five games. That is the most through a team's first five games of a postseason since the 1999 Red Sox had 28 through five games. |
|||||||
10-12-23 | Braves v. Phillies +1.5 | Top | 1-3 | Win | 100 | 4 h 41 m | Show |
The Phillies hammered six home runs on Wednesday night, including two apiece from Bryce Harper and Nick Castellanos, to win Game 3 in a blowout 10-2 and take a 2-1 series lead. The hype around "Red October" in Philadelphia is back after the Phillies overcame a difficult loss in Game 2. Atlanta rallied from a 4-0 deficit for a 5-4 lead in the eighth inning before ending the game on an 8-5-3 double play, in which Bryce Harper was caught too far from first base to double back in time. Turns out, that was just what the Phillies needed as the series shifted home. |
|||||||
10-04-23 | Rangers +1.5 v. Rays | Top | 7-1 | Win | 100 | 1 h 53 m | Show |
The Tampa Bay Rays will need to locate their offense -- and their defense, for that matter -- if they wish to avert a second sweep in as many years in the American League wild-card series. Tampa Bay mustered just one run in 24 innings during last year's wild-card series against the Cleveland Guardians. After being shut out in the series opener on Tuesday, the fourth-seeded Rays will host the fifth-seeded Texas Rangers on Wednesday afternoon for Game 2 of their best-of-three series in St. Petersburg, Fla. Tampa Bay produced just six hits and committed a franchise playoff-record four errors in a 4-0 setback to Texas in the series opener on Tuesday. |
|||||||
09-29-23 | Cubs v. Brewers +1.5 | Top | 3-4 | Win | 100 | 5 h 50 m | Show |
Right-hander Kyle Hendricks (6-8, 3.66 ERA) is expected to start for the Cubs, while right-hander Colin Rea (6-6, 4.74) gets the nod for Milwaukee. The Cubs (82-77) lost at Atlanta 5-3 on Thursday, capping a three-game sweep by the Braves. Chicago, 6-13 in its last 19 games, is a half-game behind Miami (82-76) for the final NL wild-card spot. The Marlins' game vs. the Mets on Thursday night was suspended due to rain. Miami owns the tiebreaker over the Cubs. |

09-21-23 | Pirates +1.5 v. Cubs | Top | 8-6 | Win | 100 | 4 h 39 m | Show |
Johan Oviedo allowed one run on four hits and five walks in 5.0 innings as the Pittsburgh Pirates lost to the New York Yankees 7-5 on Friday. Oviedo struck out seven, ending the game with a 4.27 ERA and 1.36 WHIP on the season. That effort will be good enough to give us a win tonight. |
|||||||

Gerrit Cole allowed two runs on six hits and three walks in 5.0 innings as the New York Yankees defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-5 on Friday. Cole struck out four, ending the game with a 2.81 ERA and 1.05 WHIP on the season. Get that plus money tonight. |

09-19-23 | Twins v. Reds +1.5 | Top | 7-0 | Loss | -120 | 16 h 3 m | Show |
09-18-23 | Twins v. Reds +1.5 | Top | 3-7 | Win | 100 | 7 h 49 m | Show |
The Twins will send right-hander Joe Ryan (10-9, 4.20 ERA) to the mound in the series opener. On Tuesday, Ryan was charged with two runs on five hits over 4 2/3 innings, striking out seven and walking two as the Twins beat visiting Tampa Bay 3-2. The Reds, with just three regular pitchers in their rotation, were non-committal after Sunday's game about a starting pitcher for Monday, but it could be rookie right-hander Connor Phillips (0-0, 8.31 ERA) in his third major league appearance. Phillips debuted on Sept. 5, and in his second start on Wednesday in Detroit, he gave up three runs on four hits and four walks in four innings. He struck out three. |
|||||||
09-17-23 | Yankees -1.5 v. Pirates | Top | 2-3 | Loss | -100 | 4 h 44 m | Show |
In the series finale, New York left-hander Carlos Rodon (3-5, 6.14 ERA) is scheduled to start against right-hander Colin Selby (2-1, 8.20). Rodon had a bounce-back game his last time out. After giving up seven runs and eight hits Sept. 7 in a loss against Detroit in his worst start of the year, he got a win Tuesday against Boston. He held the Red Sox to one run and four hits in five innings and struck out a season-high nine. He had a shaky start as his first pitch was hit for a home run, but he struck out the side that first inning and went from there. |
|||||||
09-12-23 | Braves v. Phillies +1.5 | Top | 7-6 | Win | 100 | 9 h 22 m | Show |
Philadelphia will hand the ball to right-hander Zack Wheeler (11-6, 3.49 ERA) on Tuesday. In his latest start, Wheeler tossed six scoreless innings and gave up just one hit against the San Diego Padres on Wednesday. Left-hander Max Fried (7-1, 2.70 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Braves on Tuesday. In Fried's latest outing, on Thursday against the St. Louis Cardinals, he gave up six hits and three runs in six innings. It wasn't one of Fried's best outings but was nonetheless a quality start. |
|||||||
09-09-23 | Mets v. Twins -1.5 | Top | 4-8 | Win | 140 | 5 h 59 m | Show |
Minnesota (74-67), which maintained a 6 1/2-game lead in the Central over the Cleveland Guardians (68-74), will try to clinch the three-game series Saturday afternoon when veteran right-hander Kenta Maeda (3-7, 4.73 ERA) takes the mound against New York left-hander David Peterson (3-7, 5.40). Maeda is 1-2 with a 5.25 ERA in four career appearances (two starts) against the Mets but hasn't faced them since 2019, when he was with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Peterson, meanwhile, has never faced the Twins. To even the series, he will have to find a way to cool down Correa, who belted a 439-foot homer off Kodai Senga during the fourth inning on Friday. The ball had an exit an exit velocity of 114.2 mph, the hardest of his nine-year career. |
|||||||
09-01-23 | Cubs v. Reds +1.5 | Top | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 14 h 6 m | Show |
Neither team officially has named a starter for the nightcap. Chicago is expected to turn to Caleb Kilian (0-1, 16.88), while the Reds likely will give the ball to fellow right-hander Ben Lively (4-7, 5.17). Kilian hasn't pitched since Aug. 13, when he allowed three runs in an inning of relief against the Blue Jays. He has never faced Cincinnati. Lively gave up three runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings against the Diamondbacks last Saturday. He is 0-2 with a 19.00 ERA in two career starts versus the Cubs. |
|||||||
08-30-23 | Angels v. Phillies -1.5 | Top | 10-8 | Loss | -100 | 4 h 52 m | Show |
The Philadelphia Phillies continue to slug their way through the month of August. The power surge has catapulted the Phillies to a season-best 16 games above .500 following a 12-7 victory over the Angels on Tuesday. Philadelphia will now go for a sweep on Wednesday when it faces visiting Los Angeles in the finale of a three-game series. Alec Bohm, Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner and Bryson Stott each homered on Tuesday as the Phillies extended their winning streak to five games. Philadelphia has gone deep 57 times this month. |
|||||||
08-29-23 | Nationals v. Blue Jays -1.5 | Top | 5-4 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 36 m | Show |
The Blue Jays are scheduled to start right-hander Jose Berrios (9-9, 3.55 ERA) on Tuesday. In two career starts against Washington, he is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA. Washington is scheduled to start left-hander MacKenzie Gore (6-10, 4.38), who has never faced Toronto. He is winless with a 4.44 ERA in his past five starts. |
|||||||

Gausman most recently allowed two runs on five hits in six innings against the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday. He took his second consecutive loss. Washington will turn to right-hander Josiah Gray (7-10, 3.85). He allowed two runs on five hits in six innings in his lone start against the Blue Jays back on Aug. 18, 2021. Gray took a no-decision in his last start, allowing one run on one hit in six innings against the New York Yankees last Tuesday. |
|||||||
08-28-23 | White Sox v. Orioles -1.5 | Top | 0-9 | Win | 100 | 10 h 37 m | Show |
The White Sox list right-hander Michael Kopech (5-11, 4.95 ERA) as their starting pitcher for Monday night. He's coming off drastically different outings. On Aug. 18, he surrendered nine runs in four innings in a loss at Colorado. Then Wednesday night against the Seattle Mariners, he threw four shutout innings while allowing one hit, though he walked four before departing with leg cramps. He has walked at least four batters in each of his last five outings, with 22 walks and 15 strikeouts during that stretch. Right-hander Grayson Rodriguez (3-3, 5.38) will be Baltimore's starter. The rookie has lasted at least five innings in each of his seven starts since returning from Triple-A Norfolk in mid-July, exceeding the 90-pitch mark in all of those games. |
|||||||
08-27-23 | Cardinals +1.5 v. Phillies | Top | 0-3 | Loss | -112 | 7 h 32 m | Show |
Cardinals left-hander Drew Rom (0-1, 14.73 ERA) is set to make his second career start in the series finale. Rom yielded eight runs (six earned) over 3 2/3 innings in an 11-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates last Monday. The 23-year-old struggled to recover from a rough first inning that included a costly error by second baseman Jose Fermin. Philadelphia will counter with right-hander Aaron Nola (11-8, 4.49), who allowed two runs over seven innings in a 10-4 win over the San Francisco Giants last Monday. Nola, 30, owns a 3.49 ERA in 11 home starts this season compared to a 5.26 mark in 15 outings away from Citizens Bank Park. |
|||||||
08-26-23 | Yankees +1.5 v. Rays | Top | 0-3 | Loss | -140 | 8 h 52 m | Show |
On Saturday, Clarke Schmidt (8-7, 4.68 ERA) will take the mound for the Yankees. The right-hander is 1-1 with a 6.38 ERA in four starts this month, having allowed 13 runs in 18 1/3 innings. He had won six consecutive decisions before logging a loss and a no-decision in his past two outings, respectively. In seven career appearances, three starts, against Tampa Bay, Schmidt is 1-2 with a 5.40 ERA. The Rays beat him on May 14 in New York, when he yielded seven runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings. Tampa Bay's Saturday starter, Tyler Glasnow (6-4, 3.35), will look to rebound from a rough outing last Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader against the host Angels. The 6-foot-8 right-hander surrendered seven runs (five earned) and eight hits in six innings during a 7-6 defeat. In eight career starts against the Yankees, Glasnow is 3-2 with a 3.12 ERA. He posted a victory at New York on July 31 after giving up a run on three hits in seven innings as the Rays prevailed 5-1. |
|||||||
08-24-23 | Rockies v. Rays -1.5 | Top | 3-5 | Win | 100 | 4 h 29 m | Show |
The Rays did not announce a Thursday starter, but multiple reports stated right-hander Shawn Armstrong (0-0, 1.00 ERA) would serve as the opener of a bullpen game. He has made four starts among his 24 appearances this season and seven in his 227 career outings. Three of his four starts in 2023 consisted of two scoreless innings. In the other start, Armstrong went a season-high three innings and didn't yield a run against the Philadelphia Phillies on July 6. He pitched one shutout inning in the series opener on Tuesday. Colorado's Peter Lambert will make the start in Florida before the club stays in the AL East and heads to Baltimore for a series beginning Friday. The right-handed Lambert (3-4, 5.02) will be seeking to follow up his last start, an outstanding seven-inning stint in a 14-1 win over the White Sox. |
|||||||
08-22-23 | Cubs v. Tigers +1.5 | Top | 6-8 | Win | 100 | 7 h 37 m | Show |
Cubs left-hander Drew Smyly has looked good this month in a relief role, but he will try to get back on track as a starter on Tuesday when Chicago faces the host Detroit Tigers in the middle contest of a three-game series. Smyly has tossed an inning of scoreless relief in each of his last three appearances. He'll be making his first start since Aug. 7, when he allowed seven runs in five innings against the New York Mets. Smyly (9-8, 4.92 ERA) began his career with Detroit. In three career starts against the Tigers, he is 0-2 with a 5.50 ERA. Smyly will be opposed by rookie right-hander Reese Olson (2-5, 4.83) on Tuesday. In his most recent outing last Wednesday, Olson lasted just 2 2/3 innings while giving up four runs and eight hits to Minnesota. |
|||||||
08-21-23 | Cardinals v. Pirates +1.5 | Top | 1-11 | Win | 100 | 7 h 16 m | Show |
The Pirates will look to get their offense going on Monday against left-hander Drew Rom, who is expected to be summoned from Triple-A Memphis to make his major league debut. Rom was the primary pitching prospect acquired from Baltimore in an Aug. 1 trade deadline deal that sent right-hander Jack Flaherty to the Orioles. In two starts at Memphis, Rom recorded a pair of victories, allowing just two runs (one earned) in 11 innings -- good for an 0.82 ERA. He also made 19 appearances (18 starts) for Triple-A Norfolk this season while in the Orioles' organization. During his time there, Rom went 7-6 with a 5.34 ERA. |
|||||||
08-21-23 | Cubs -1.5 v. Tigers | Top | 7-6 | Loss | -100 | 7 h 59 m | Show |
Tigers right-hander Alex Faedo (2-4, 5.16 ERA) will start the series opener. His WHIP (0.99) is a lot more impressive than his ERA, thanks to his last three outings. He has had a pair of scoreless, one-hit performances, first against San Diego over six innings on July 23 and most recently in a five-inning stint against the Twins on Tuesday. Former reliever Javier Assad (2-2, 3.11), Faedo's mound opponent, has posted two quality starts this month. He held Toronto to one run and four hits in seven innings on Aug. 11. In his last outing on Wednesday, the Cubs right-hander gave up three runs (two earned) and four hits in six innings against the Chicago White Sox. |
|||||||
08-16-23 | Brewers +1.5 v. Dodgers | Top | 1-7 | Loss | -104 | 13 h 13 m | Show |
Wade Miley allowed one run on two hits and three walks in 6.0 innings as the Milwaukee Brewers lost to the Colorado Rockies 7-3 on Tuesday. Miley struck out two, ending the game with a 2.90 ERA and 1.13 WHIP on the season. |
|||||||
08-14-23 | Rays v. Giants +1.5 | Top | 10-2 | Loss | -135 | 13 h 57 m | Show |
Ryan Walker allowed one hit without giving up a run in 1.0 inning as the San Francisco Giants lost to the Texas Rangers 2-1 on Friday. Walker did not strike out a batter, ending the game with a 2.40 ERA and 1.19 WHIP on the season. |
|||||||
08-12-23 | Twins v. Phillies +1.5 | Top | 8-1 | Loss | -165 | 8 h 45 m | Show |
The Phillies will hand the ball to right-hander Taijuan Walker (13-4, 3.98 ERA) on Saturday. Walker allowed seven hits and four runs in seven innings in his previous start against the Kansas City Royals on Sunday. Pablo Lopez (7-6, 3.81) is expected to start for the Twins on Saturday. Lopez was effective in his most recent start, against the Tigers on Monday, as he gave up five hits and no runs in seven innings. He struck out eight and walked none for his second straight victory. |
|||||||
08-11-23 | Reds v. Pirates +1.5 | Top | 9-2 | Loss | -165 | 7 h 16 m | Show |
In the opener, Cincinnati left-hander Andrew Abbott (6-3, 2.93 ERA) is scheduled to start opposite Pittsburgh right-hander Johan Oviedo (6-11, 4.18). Abbott, who has not faced the Pirates, will be making his 12th major-league start in a strong rookie season. On Saturday against Washington, Abbott had one of his biggest hiccups. He took his first loss since July 15, allowing six runs, nine hits and a career-high five walks in 5 2/3 innings. Oviedo is on a roll. He is 3-0 with a 0.90 ERA over his past three games, all quality starts. He also has been a boon to the bullpen - he has reached seven innings six times. That includes his last time out when he pitched seven shutout innings Sunday in a win at Milwaukee. |
|||||||
08-08-23 | Cardinals v. Rays -1.5 | Top | 2-4 | Win | 125 | 15 h 1 m | Show |
Both teams were off on Monday, and on Tuesday, St. Louis sends Miles Mikolas (6-7, 4.29 ERA) to the mound, while Tampa Bay counters with Zach Eflin (12-6, 3.46). Mikolas was lined up to start on Sunday, but instead opted to drop his appeal on a five-game suspension levied by MLB after the right-hander intentionally plunked Chicago Cubs outfielder Ian Happ with a pitch. With Mikolas not getting the starting nod against Colorado, the Cardinals used left-hander Zack Thompson (2-4) as an opener. Four relievers were used to close out the one-run loss, which made Monday's day off more beneficial to rest some arms. Mikolas is 0-2 with a 7.71 ERA in two career starts against Tampa Bay. In 14 innings, the veteran has yielded four home runs. Eflin is 1-1 with a 4.42 ERA in three starts (18 1/3 innings) against the Cardinals. At home, Eflin has been especially effective this season, posting a 10-2 record with a 2.60 ERA. However, in his last outing at Tropicana Field, the 29-year-old gave up five runs in four innings in a loss to the Miami Marlins on July 26. But in Eflin's last start, on the road at the New York Yankees, the right-hander tossed six shutout innings in a win. |
|||||||
08-08-23 | Nationals v. Phillies -1.5 | Top | 4-8 | Win | 100 | 13 h 40 m | Show |
Zack Wheeler (8-5, 3.71 ERA) and Ranger Suarez (2-5, 4.01) are scheduled to start in the doubleheader for the Phillies. Wheeler will pitch in the opener. Wheeler is 10-14 with a 4.66 ERA in 30 career starts against the Nationals, while Suarez is 6-1 with a 3.80 ERA in 13 career games (six starts) versus Washington. The surging Nationals have won four straight heading into this doubleheader. After a 3-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers last Wednesday, the Nationals swept the Cincinnati Reds, outscoring them 19-9 during the three-game set. Washington is also 11-5 over its last 16 games. |
|||||||
08-07-23 | Rangers -1.5 v. A's | Top | 5-3 | Win | 100 | 20 h 25 m | Show |
Dane Dunning improved to 9-4, allowing one run on three hits and one walk in 7.2 innings, as the Texas Rangers defeated the Chicago White Sox 11-1 on Wednesday. Dunning struck out 11, ending the game with a 3.14 ERA and 1.14 WHIP on the season. Rangers crush Athletics tonight |
|||||||
08-04-23 | Rays -1.5 v. Tigers | Top | 8-0 | Win | 120 | 5 h 37 m | Show |
Zack Littell (1-2, 4.85 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Rays on Friday. The 27-year-old right-hander has been a reliever most of his career. He collected his first victory in eight career starts when he pitched five innings in an 8-2 win against Houston on Sunday. He gave up two runs and eight hits but didn't issue a walk. Tigers Rookie Reese Olson (1-4, 4.71) will start the series opener. Olson gave up four runs and eight hits in six innings last Friday in Miami but didn't figure into the decision in the 6-5 loss. He allowed the four runs during the first three innings. |
|||||||
08-03-23 | Orioles v. Blue Jays -1.5 | Top | 6-1 | Loss | -100 | 4 h 37 m | Show |
Right-hander Jack Flaherty will make his first start for the visiting Baltimore Orioles on Thursday afternoon as they try to clinch their four-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays. Baltimore obtained Flaherty before the trade deadline Tuesday from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for three prospects. The Orioles wanted his experience and innings-eating capability down the stretch to bolster a young staff as they try to hold on to first place in the American League East. Toronto's starter on Thursday will be right-hander Kevin Gausman (8-5, 3.10 ERA). Gausman pitched the first five-plus seasons of his 11-year career for the Orioles. In three career starts against them, he is 1-1 with a 4.76. Gausman threw eight innings of two-run ball against Baltimore in a no-decision on May 21. |
|||||||
08-01-23 | Brewers -1.5 v. Nationals | Top | 6-4 | Win | 108 | 8 h 38 m | Show |
Right-hander Freddy Peralta (6-8, 4.46 ERA) will try to snap Milwaukee's losing streak. Peralta's last three starts have included two outings in which he tossed six shutout innings against the Reds sandwiched around a drubbing by the Braves in which he gave up six runs on six hits over five innings. Peralta, who matched his career high on Wednesday with 13 strikeouts against Cincinnati, is 2-2 with a 7.29 ERA in five career games (three starts) vs. Washington. The Nationals also were busy on the trade front Monday, sending veteran infielder Jeimer Candelario, 29, to the Chicago Cubs for a pair of minor-leaguers -- left-handed pitcher DJ Herz and shortstop Kevin Made. Right-hander Josiah Gray (7-8, 3.27 ERA) will start for Washington on Tuesday. Over his past two starts, Gray is 1-0 and has allowed a total of just one run on six hits and six walks over 13 innings. Gray has never faced the Brewers. |
|||||||
08-01-23 | Tigers +1.5 v. Pirates | Top | 1-4 | Loss | -185 | 7 h 26 m | Show |
In the series opener on Tuesday, Detroit's Matt Manning (3-2, 4.32 ERA) and Pittsburgh's Johan Oviedo (4-11, 4.60) are scheduled to start in a battle of right-handers. Oviedo is second to Pirates ace Mitch Keller with 10 quality starts, but those haven't translated to wins often enough. Oviedo snapped an eight-game losing skid after allowing one run on three hits in six innings Wednesday at San Diego. |
|||||||
07-31-23 | Orioles +1.5 v. Blue Jays | Top | 4-2 | Win | 100 | 9 h 16 m | Show |
The Blue Jays are scheduled to start right-hander Chris Bassitt (10-5, 3.91 ERA) on Monday. Over five career starts against the Orioles, Bassitt is 3-1 with a 4.55 ERA. The Orioles are scheduled to start right-hander Kyle Gibson (9-6, 4.68). Gibson is 6-2 with a 4.46 ERA in 12 career starts against Toronto. The Orioles have also made changes to their pitching staff. They selected the contract of right-hander Joey Krehbiel from Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday and optioned struggling right-hander Tyler Wells to Double-A Bowie. In his start against the Yankees on Saturday, Wells lasted only 2 2/3 innings and allowed three runs on home runs by Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge in the Orioles' 8-3 loss. It was the third straight start in which Wells did not complete five innings. In his past three starts, Wells has allowed 11 runs over nine innings. |
|||||||
07-30-23 | Angels +1.5 v. Blue Jays | Top | 3-2 | Win | 100 | 1 h 15 m | Show |
The Angels are scheduled to start left-hander Tyler Anderson (5-2, 5.23 ERA) on Sunday. In two career starts against Toronto covering 10 2/3 innings, he is 0-1 with a 5.91 ERA. The Blue Jays are scheduled to start right-hander Jose Berrios (8-7, 3.40). In eight career starts against the Angels, he is 2-5 with a 7.03 ERA. Toronto put closer Jordan Romano (lower back inflammation) on the injured list Saturday. He was removed from the 4-1 win Friday with two out in the ninth, and the final out was left to Yimi Garcia. Right-hander Nate Pearson was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo. The Blue Jays appear set to use a closer committee in Romano's absence. |

07-29-23 | Nationals +1.5 v. Mets | Top | 11-6 | Win | 100 | 10 h 2 m | Show |
Right-hander Carlos Carrasco (3-4, 5.82 ERA) is slated to start for the Mets against left-hander Patrick Corbin (6-11, 5.01). Carrasco took a loss in his latest start when he gave up five runs on a season-high 10 hits over a season-low 2 1/3 innings as the Mets fell 6-1 to the host Boston Red Sox on Sunday. He is 2-2 with a 3.94 ERA in eight career games (seven starts) against the Nationals. Corbin took a defeat Monday after allowing six runs (five earned) on 10 hits in 6 1/3 innings during the Nationals' 10-6 loss to the visiting Colorado Rockies. He is 7-10 with a 4.41 ERA in 26 games (25 starts) against the Mets. Corbin beat New York on May 15 after yielding two runs on eight hits in six innings. He struck out one and walked one in a 10-3 home victory. |

07-28-23 | Angels v. Blue Jays -1.5 | Top | 1-4 | Win | 108 | 6 h 18 m | Show |
Right-hander Lucas Giolito is set to make his Los Angeles Angels debut on Friday in the opener of a three-game series against the host Toronto Blue Jays. The Angels acquired Giolito and right-handed reliever Reynaldo Lopez from the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday in exchange for two prospects. The Angels also confirmed that they would not trade two-way star Shohei Ohtani, who can become a free agent at the end of the season, so the Blue Jays will be facing a team that is hoping to make a playoff run. Giolito is 6-6 with a 3.79 ERA in 21 starts this season. His 131 strikeouts rank 10th in the American League, and he has limited opponents to a .211 average in his past nine starts. Giolito spent 6 1/2 seasons in Chicago's rotation, winning 59 games. He was an All-Star selection in 2019, and threw a no-hitter against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Aug. 25, 2020. He is 2-2 with a 5.45 ERA in seven career starts against Toronto. Kevin Gausman (7-5, 3.18 ERA) is slated to start for the Blue Jays on Friday. He is 3-3 with a 4.78 ERA in eight career starts against the Angels. |

Dodgers rookie right-hander Bobby Miller (5-1, 4.25 ERA) is scheduled to start against the Rangers for the first time. Miller experienced right knee discomfort in his last start vs. the Mets on Sunday, but he told MLB.com he's "all good." Against New York, Miller allowed one run on three hits with five strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings. |

07-21-23 | Astros -1.5 v. A's | Top | 6-4 | Win | 100 | 11 h 28 m | Show |
A couple of hard-luck left-handers go head-to-head Friday night when the visiting Houston Astros aim for their eighth consecutive win without a loss against the Oakland Athletics this season. Houston's Framber Valdez (7-6, 2.76 ERA) and Oakland's JP Sears (1-6, 3.99), a pair of six-game losers despite respectable ERAs, are scheduled to duel one night after J.P. France and Hogan Harris put on a nice show on the mound. The Astros' France prevailed in the series-opening pitchers' duel, getting a two-run, go-ahead double from Kyle Tucker and a solo home run from Alex Bregman in a 3-1 win. Valdez will try to give the Astros a third straight win overall after having been a bit questionable following his last start, a loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday. He left that contest in the seventh inning with a calf issue. Sears is winless in his past six starts, going 0-3 despite a respectable 3.68 ERA. He has been especially snake-bitten in July, as he has yet to pick up a decision despite producing a 1.93 ERA in three starts against the Detroit, Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins. Overall this season, he has just one win to show for 10 starts in which he allowed two or fewer runs. |

07-20-23 | Cardinals +1.5 v. Cubs | Top | 7-2 | Win | 100 | 9 h 23 m | Show |
The St. Louis Cardinals are not playing like a club that reportedly could be a seller at the upcoming trade deadline. Meanwhile, Marcus Stroman might be making one of his final few starts for the Chicago Cubs. Riding a season-high five-game winning streak, the visiting Cardinals look to again get the best of Stroman during series opener against the rival Cubs on Thursday night. One of the major leagues' biggest disappointments, St. Louis entered the All-Star break 38-52. Earlier this week, president of baseball operations John Mozeliak hinted the club could deal veteran players for prospects by the Aug. 1 deadline. However, after losing 7-5 in 10 innings against the Washington Nationals on Friday, the Cardinals have totaled 34 runs and batted .330 while winning five straight, highlighted by this week's home sweep of the Miami Marlins. Though St. Louis is 10 games behind the first-place Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central, the Cardinals are winners of seven of their past eight. |

07-20-23 | Brewers v. Phillies +1.5 | Top | 4-0 | Loss | -190 | 2 h 2 m | Show |
The Phillies will hand the ball Thursday to right-hander Taijuan Walker (11-3, 4.00 ERA), who has won seven consecutive starts. Walker signed a four-year, $72 million deal in the offseason. After some rough early outings, he has proven to be one of the most reliable starters in the National League. In Walker's latest start, against the Padres on Saturday, he allowed four hits and two runs in five innings. Walker lost his lone career start against the Brewers when he gave up four runs on six hits in six-plus innings at Milwaukee last September while pitching for the New York Mets. Right-hander Corbin Burnes (8-5, 3.73 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Brewers on Thursday. In his most recent start, Burnes gave up two hits and two walks while striking out 13 in six scoreless innings against the Reds on Friday. Even more impressive was how he competed in the sweltering 90-plus degree conditions at Cincinnati. "He was getting better as we gave him time," Counsell said. "To strike out the side in the sixth was impressive." Burnes added, "The curveball was really good tonight." Burnes is 0-1 with a 1.08 ERA in three career games (one start) against the Phillies. |

07-18-23 | Padres -1.5 v. Blue Jays | Top | 9-1 | Win | 130 | 8 h 50 m | Show |
The Padres will send right-hander Joe Musgrove (8-2, 3.29 ERA) to the mound Tuesday. Musgrove is 7-0 with a 1.79 ERA in his last nine starts, allowing one run or fewer six times during the stretch. Musgrove defeated the New York Mets in his final start before the All-Star break. He gave up three hits over six scoreless innings. Musgrove, 30, is 1-0 with a 1.46 ERA in three career appearances (one start) against Toronto, the organization that drafted him in the first round in 2011 before trading him to the Houston Astros one year later. Right-hander Alek Manoah (2-7, 5.91) will start for Toronto and aims to follow up on an encouraging start against the Detroit Tigers on July 7. He gave up one run, five hits and no walks and struck out eight for his first victory since April 5. It was Manoah's first major league outing since June 5, when he gave up six runs and recorded just one out against the Astros. Manoah, a 2022 All-Star, even was torched for 11 runs in 2 2/3 innings in a rookie-level game on June 27 after being demoted. |

Atlanta is going with All-Star Spencer Strider (10-2, 3.66 ERA), who leads the majors with 155 strikeouts. Tampa Bay is turning to rookie Taj Bradley (5-4, 5.27), who has 76 strikeouts in 56 1/3 innings. Neither starter has yet to face the opposition. Strider is one of a franchise-high eight players to be selected to the All-Star Game. The 24-year-old has won each of his past four starts, fanning 34 in 24 2/3 innings in that span. He gave up three runs (two earned) with nine strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings against the Miami Marlins on Sunday. |

07-08-23 | Cubs v. Yankees -1.5 | Top | 3-6 | Win | 105 | 2 h 40 m | Show |
The Yankees will attempt to produce improved results at the plate for Cole (8-2, 2.79 ERA), who is 1-2 with a 2.70 ERA in his past five outings. Cole has allowed two runs or fewer 13 times and the Yankees dropped to 9-4 in those games when he allowed two runs on six hits in six innings during a 5-1 loss at St. Louis on Sunday. Cole is 10-3 with a 2.53 ERA in 15 career starts against the Cubs and is facing Chicago for the first time since striking out 12 in six innings for Houston on May 27, 2019. After completing their 10th shutout this season, the Cubs hand the ball to Drew Smyly (7-5, 4.10). Smyly was 5-1 with a 2.60 ERA through his first 10 starts but is 2-4 with a 6.49 ERA in his past seven. Smyly took a no-decision for the first time since May 17 on Monday when he allowed three runs on four hits in 3 2/3 innings at Milwaukee. During his second-shortest outing this season, Smyly threw a season-low 73 pitches five days after getting tagged for seven runs and nine hits in 3 2/3 innings against the Philadelphia Phillies. Smyly is 3-0 with a 1.85 ERA in nine career appearances (seven starts) against the Yankees. He last opposed the Yankees on Sept. 20, 2016, when he allowed one run on four hits in six innings with Tampa Bay. |

07-04-23 | Angels v. Padres -1.5 | Top | 5-8 | Win | 170 | 8 h 37 m | Show |
Ohtani will pitch against the Padres for the first time in his career in front of what is expected to be San Diego's 35th sellout crowd of the season. Over his last three starts, Ohtani is 2-1 with a 1.86 ERA. The Padres will counter with Joe Musgrove (6-2, 3.80 ERA). The right-hander is 2-0 over his last three starts with a 2.37 ERA. In seven starts since May 26, Musgrove is 5-0 with a 2.13 ERA. Musgrove has a 3-1 career record against the Angels with a 2.88 ERA in seven appearances (three starts). However, he has faced Los Angeles only once since 2017, when he threw a three-hit, complete-game shutout on Aug. 27, 2021. |

07-03-23 | Orioles -1.5 v. Yankees | Top | 3-6 | Loss | -100 | 7 h 35 m | Show |
Domingo German on Wednesday joined Don Larsen, David Wells and David Cone as the only New York Yankees to throw a perfect game, and now the intrigue will be about what the follow-up performance looks like. Coming off his historic perfect game, German will be on the mound Monday night when the Yankees return home for the opener of a four-game series against the Baltimore Orioles. The Yankees, who dropped two of three at home to Baltimore May 23-25, are returning to New York after a 3-3 road trip. They ended the trip by being held to three hits in a 5-1 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. German (5-5, 4.54 ERA) had allowed a combined 17 earned runs in consecutive losses at Boston and to Seattle before making history in Oakland. The right-hander threw 99 pitches, including 51 curveballs, and got nine strikeouts against the Athletics in an 11-0 victory. Tyler Wells (6-4, 3.21) starts for Baltimore and hopes to avoid his third straight loss. He allowed four runs in five innings June 21 in a 7-2 defeat at Tampa Bay, and then allowed two runs in six innings in a 3-1 loss to the visiting Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday. We anticipate German not being as sharp as he was against Oakland. |

07-03-23 | Cardinals v. Marlins -1.5 | Top | 4-5 | Loss | -100 | 6 h 58 m | Show |
After struggling through a June to forget, St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Miles Mikolas will try to gain a fresh start in July. Mikolas finished 0-4 with a 6.07 ERA in five starts last month. He will flip the calendar with a tough road assignment against the Miami Marlins Monday at LoanDepot Park. The Cardinals will have their hands full against left-hander Braxton Garrett (4-2, 3.53), who has allowed just 11 earned runs in 50 innings over his last nine starts for a 1.98 ERA in that span. In his previous start, Garrett held the Red Sox to one run on three hits in five innings in an outing cut short by a rain delay in Boston. |
|||||||
07-01-23 | Nationals +1.5 v. Phillies | Top | 4-19 | Loss | -109 | 11 h 18 m | Show |
The Nationals will hand the ball to MacKenzie Gore (4-6, 3.89 ERA) on Saturday. In Gore's latest start, on Sunday against the Padres, the left-hander allowed five hits and one run while striking out nine in an 8-3 win. The Phillies will attempt to even the series as ace right-hander Zack Wheeler (6-4, 3.86 ERA) takes the mound. Wheeler struggled mightily in his latest start as he gave up nine hits and five runs in 5 1/3 innings during a no-decision against the New York Mets on Sunday. In his career against the Nationals, Wheeler is 10-14 with a 4.59 ERA in 29 starts. He escaped with a no-decision at Washington on June 2 after yielding seven runs on eight hits in 3 2/3 innings. In their one-run loss on Friday, the Phillies went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven on base, an ongoing struggle for the offense this season. |

06-29-23 | Guardians -1.5 v. Royals | Top | 3-4 | Loss | -100 | 4 h 35 m | Show |
Former American League Cy Young Award winner Shane Bieber has just two victories over his past eight starts, including losses in his past two outings. The right-hander will look to start a turnaround as he and the Cleveland Guardians attempt to complete a three-game sweep of the host Kansas City Royals on Thursday. Bieber, 28, has never lost to the Royals. He is 6-0 with a 3.03 ERA in 13 career starts vs. Kansas City. Cleveland won 2-1 on Tuesday and 14-1 on Wednesday and has taken seven of its past nine to move into first place in the American League Central. Greinke, 39, is 12-9 with a 3.41 ERA in 35 games (30 starts) against Cleveland. Myles Straw is 5-for-9 off Greinke, while Ramirez (3-for-16) and Steven Kwan (1-for-10) have struggled. |

06-28-23 | Twins +1.5 v. Braves | Top | 0-3 | Loss | -135 | 1 h 59 m | Show |
The Atlanta Braves will recall left-hander Kolby Allard from Triple-A Gwinnett and send him to the mound on Wednesday in an effort to sweep the visiting Minnesota Twins. The Braves took the first two games of the series, and they have won four straight and 12 of their last 13. The Twins have dropped three of their past four and are 2-3 on their current nine-game road trip. Allard will be opposed by Minnesota's Kenta Maeda (1-4, 6.86 ERA) as the Braves go for their eighth sweep of the season. Allard has missed the entire season with a right oblique strain sustained in spring training. The Braves' 2015 first-round pick was traded to Texas in July 2019, then reacquired from the Rangers in November. Over the past two weeks, Allard has made two rehab starts for Gwinnett, posting a 2.70 ERA in 6 2/3 combined innings. |
|||||||
06-26-23 | Tigers v. Rangers -1.5 | Top | 7-2 | Loss | -106 | 8 h 7 m | Show |
Monday's series opener will feature a pair of left-handed starters: the Rangers' Andrew Heaney vs. the Tigers' Matthew Boyd. Heaney (5-4, 3.98 ERA) earned a win in his most recent start, last Monday against the Chicago White Sox. He and went 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits with no walks and six strikeouts. It was his first win in June. Monday will mark Heaney's first start vs. the Tigers since the 2018 season when he was with the Angels. In two career starts vs. Detroit, Heaney is 1-1 with a 9.00 ERA in 10 innings. Due to the Rangers' inability to get timely hits, they left 10 runners on base Sunday. Marcus Semien, Nathaniel Lowe and Jonah Heim all had two-hit days. Boyd (5-5, 5.37 ERA) is riding a two-game winning streak for the first time this season, and the victories came in consecutive starts. In his last outing, against the visiting Kansas City Royals on Wednesday, Boyd allowed two runs on six hits with no walks and seven strikeouts over six innings. Boyd has faced the Rangers once this season, allowing five runs on five hits with four walks and five strikeouts over six innings as he took the loss on May 29 in Detroit. In his career vs. the Rangers, Boyd is 1-7 with a 6.39 ERA in 10 appearances, including nine starts. |
|||||||
06-26-23 | Twins v. Braves -1.5 | Top | 1-4 | Win | 100 | 8 h 42 m | Show |
The Braves will send Spencer Strider (8-2, 3.93 ERA) against Minnesota's Sonny Gray (4-1, 2.56) in a duel of right-handers. The Braves are coming off a 4-1 road trip, have won 10 of their last 11, and took the final two games of a three-game series against NL Central-leading Cincinnati. The Twins just won two of three from the host Detroit Tigers over the weekend, including 6-3 in 10 innings on Sunday. Minnesota has won four of its last five games. The teams have not met since 2019, when the Braves took two of three in Minneapolis. Strider leads the major leagues with 136 strikeouts and is coming off a bounce-back effort at Philadelphia on Tuesday. He limited the Phillies to one run over six innings after having allowed 13 runs over nine combined innings in his two previous starts. Strider fanned nine on Tuesday to become the second pitcher since 1901 to have 300 strikeouts in his first 35 starts, joining Dwight Gooden. |

06-25-23 | Twins v. Tigers +1.5 | Top | 6-3 | Loss | -137 | 12 h 51 m | Show |
Bailey Ober fell to 4-4, allowing three runs on eight hits in 6.0 innings, as the Minnesota Twins lost to the Boston Red Sox 10-4 on Tuesday. Ober struck out four, ending the game with a 2.83 ERA and 1.02 WHIP on the season. |

06-23-23 | Royals v. Rays -1.5 | Top | 3-11 | Win | 100 | 8 h 22 m | Show |
Like many players on the Kansas City Royals, pitcher Zack Greinke has had a troublesome June as play heats up and the bad teams get even more separated from the good. However, Greinke's job this weekend is straightforward: return home to Florida and beat the club that has dominated the season's first half. The right-hander will start the second game of the four-game series between the Royals and the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night in St. Petersburg, Fla. Greinke (1-7, 4.81 ERA) is 0-2 with a 7.53 ERA over his June starts against the Miami Marlins, Cincinnati Reds and Los Angeles Angels. Across his 15 starts, the 39-year-old veteran has pitched a season-high six innings just twice -- in his second and fourth outings of the year in April. In 14 1/3 innings in June, he has surrendered 12 runs and 18 hits, including four homers. The opposition is hitting an even .300 against him. Greinke is 4-6 with a 3.41 ERA in 18 career appearances (15 starts) vs. the Rays. He got a no-decision in his latest start against Tampa Bay, a 3-2 road defeat last Aug. 21, when he was taken deep by Christian Bethancourt. |

06-23-23 | Twins -1.5 v. Tigers | Top | 4-1 | Win | 127 | 8 h 15 m | Show |
Left-hander Joey Wentz, who will start for Detroit in the series opener, is coming off his best outing of the season despite taking a loss. Wentz (1-7, 6.82 ERA) held the Twins to two runs on two hits and one walk in six innings in a 2-0 defeat on Saturday. He also recorded a career-best nine strikeouts, but he didn't get any run support. Kenta Maeda was reinstated from the 15-day injured list on Friday to start for the Twins. Maeda (0-4, 9.00 ERA) hasn't appeared in a major league game since April 26, when he surrendered 10 runs in three-plus innings against the New York Yankees. Sidelined by a triceps injury, Maeda made four minor league rehab appearances, most recently on June 16. He pitched 4 1/3 innings for Triple-A Saint Paul and gave up just one run and two hits, though he also issued four walks during the 81-pitch stint. Maeda missed last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. His last victory came Aug. 14, 2021, against the Tampa Bay Rays. |

06-21-23 | Padres v. Giants +1.5 | Top | 2-4 | Win | 100 | 11 h 40 m | Show |
The San Francisco Giants will measure just how much juice they have left in their busy bullpen when they go the opener route in search of a third straight win over the visiting San Diego Padres on Wednesday night. The Giants have won nine in a row overall, including the first two contests of the four-game series in walk-off fashion. They received a three-run homer from Mike Yastrzemski in the 10th inning for a 7-4 victory Monday before watching Padres closer Josh Hader walk home the winning run in the ninth for a 4-3 win on Tuesday. Late rallies and game-ending heroics grabbed the headlines, but perhaps the biggest difference in the tightly contested matchups has been the work of San Francisco's bullpen. The Giants have received 12 1/3 innings of three-run ball from six different relievers. The Padres, meanwhile, have tried five different relievers -- including Tim Hill twice -- out of the bullpen for a total of seven innings, during which the Giants have turned seven hits and nine walks into eight runs. The six Giants relievers who have contributed to the wins do not include Ryan Walker (2-0, 1.65 ERA), who was pressed into opener duties on Monday. He will start Wednesday's game as well. Walker allowed one run on three hits in 1 2/3 innings on Monday, his lone career encounter vs. San Diego. |

06-21-23 | Orioles v. Rays -1.5 | Top | 2-7 | Win | 150 | 1 h 11 m | Show |
On Wednesday, Rays rookie Taj Bradley (4-3, 4.19 ERA) will make his 10th career start and first against Baltimore. The right-hander has lost three of his past four decisions after starting his career with three consecutive April wins. Bradley has yet to complete six innings in a start, though he hasn't given up more than four earned runs in an outing. |

06-20-23 | Royals v. Tigers -1.5 | Top | 1-0 | Loss | -100 | 17 h 53 m | Show |
The Tigers' scheduled Tuesday starter, right-hander Michael Lorenzen (2-4, 4.23 ERA), has gone at least six innings in seven of his past eight starts. He gave up one or no runs in five of those outings, but his past two outings were rough. The Royals' scheduled Tuesday starter, Daniel Lynch (0-3, 5.79 ERA), also had trouble with the long ball in his most recent outing. The left-hander surrendered four homers while giving up seven runs in seven innings against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday. Lynch is 1-3 with a 5.22 ERA in six career starts against the Tigers. |

06-14-23 | Brewers +1.5 v. Twins | Top | 2-4 | Loss | -135 | 9 h 23 m | Show |
Milwaukee will send Colin Rea (3-3, 4.47 ERA) to the mound on Wednesday for his 11th start and 12th appearance of the season. It will be the first time Rea, a five-year veteran, has faced Minnesota. Rea was solid his last time out, throwing five shutout innings at home against the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday. He struck out eight while allowing three hits and one walk. The right-hander has a 3-0 record and a 2.95 ERA in his last four starts. Minnesota will hand the ball to Bailey Ober (3-3, 2.61), who will look to continue his strong first half of the season in his 10th start. It will be Ober's first matchup against Milwaukee. Ober's last start came on the road against the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday, when he got tagged with the loss after allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits in 5 1/3 innings. He fanned seven and walked two. It was just the third time this season that Ober allowed more than two earned runs. The Wednesday contest will be unfamiliar territory for both pitchers and both lineups, as only one hitter on either side, Taylor for Minnesota and Owen Miller for Milwaukee, has faced the opposing starter. Miller is 1-for-2 vs. Ober; Taylor is 0-for-2 vs. Rea. |

06-12-23 | Rays -1.5 v. A's | Top | 3-4 | Loss | -160 | 8 h 57 m | Show |
Looking to extend the team's winning streak to six games before Tuesday's scheduled event will be right-hander James Kaprielian (1-6, 7.21 ERA), who got the run going with his most impressive start of the season his last time out in Pittsburgh. With the A's having lost their previous five games, he limited the Pirates to one earned run in six innings in an 11-2 road win. Kaprielian was bombed for seven runs in 4 2/3 innings in an 11-0 loss at Tampa Bay in the earlier series, a game in which he served up home runs to Wander Franco, Brandon Lowe and Harold Ramirez. It was his first and only career matchup with the Rays. Right-hander Zach Eflin (8-1, 2.97) will attempt to extend his personal winning streak to five games when he is scheduled to get the ball for the Rays in the series opener. He is coming off 6 2/3 shutout innings in a 7-0 home win over the Minnesota Twins last Tuesday. Eflin will be making his second start of the season against the A's, having beaten them 9-5 at home on April 7. It will be his third career start against the A's. He has gone 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in his first two head-to-heads, neither of which were in Oakland. |

06-09-23 | Dodgers v. Phillies +1.5 | Top | 4-5 | Win | 100 | 5 h 51 m | Show |
The Dodgers will send rookie right-hander Michael Grove (0-2, 8.14 ERA) to the mound Friday. Grove returned to the rotation Saturday against the New York Yankees, after not pitching since April because of a groin strain. He gave up four runs over five innings while taking the loss. Grove faced the Phillies in his major league debut May 15 of last season and surrendered four runs on four hits and three walks over 3 2/3 innings of a no-decision. The Phillies will send left-hander Ranger Suarez (1-2, 5.47) to the mound Friday. Phillies starters have set a high standard of late, with Aaron Nola taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning Monday against the Detroit Tigers and Zack Wheeler taking one into the eighth on Thursday. |

06-08-23 | Mets +1.5 v. Braves | Top | 10-13 | Loss | -135 | 17 h 1 m | Show |
Justin Verlander fell to 2-3, allowing one run on five hits and three walks in 6.0 innings, as the New York Mets lost to the Toronto Blue Jays 3-0 on Friday. Verlander struck out eight, ending the game with a 4.25 ERA and 1.14 WHIP on the season. He needs to step up and earn his $34 million. |

06-06-23 | Diamondbacks -1.5 v. Nationals | Top | 10-5 | Win | 117 | 7 h 40 m | Show |
Arizona left-hander Tommy Henry (3-1, 3.73 ERA) will oppose Nationals right-hander Jake Irvin (1-3, 5.67) in the series opener. Henry, 25, has allowed just two earned runs in 12 2/3 innings over his last two starts with a scoreless 1 1/3 innings of relief thrown in between. He pitched seven scoreless innings in a win against the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday, allowing two hits, two walks and seven strikeouts. He gave up two runs over six innings of a no-decision in his only prior start versus Washington on May 6 at home. Irvin, 26, has struggled at home during his rookie season. He is 0-2 with a 7.47 ERA in four starts at Nationals Park. In his last outing, last Tuesday at Los Angeles, he allowed four runs on eight hits over five innings and took the loss. On the plus side, after walking four batters in each of his past two starts, he walked just one against the Dodgers. |

06-05-23 | Royals v. Marlins -1.5 | Top | 6-9 | Win | 122 | 19 h 23 m | Show |
Braxton Garrett allowed one run on two hits and one walk in 5.1 innings as the Miami Marlins defeated the San Diego Padres 2-1 on Wednesday. Garrett struck out seven, ending the game with a 4.22 ERA and 1.31 WHIP on the season. |

06-05-23 | Tigers v. Phillies -1.5 | Top | 3-8 | Win | 100 | 19 h 17 m | Show |
Joey Wentz allowed one run on seven hits and one walk in 4.1 innings as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Texas Rangers 3-2 on Wednesday. Wentz struck out five, ending the game with a 7.28 ERA and 1.68 WHIP on the season. We're betting that Wentz reverts back to old form in this one. |

06-03-23 | Cardinals v. Pirates +1.5 | Top | 3-4 | Win | 100 | 5 h 1 m | Show |
On Saturday, St. Louis left-hander Jordan Montgomery (2-6, 4.48 ERA) and Pittsburgh right-hander Luis L. Ortiz (1-2, 4.35) are expected to start. Montgomery is tied for the team lead with five quality starts but is 0-6 with a 5.03 ERA over his past nine starts. Most recently, Montgomery allowed two runs in five-plus innings against the Cleveland Guardians in a no-decision on Sunday. Ortiz, who lost his first two starts of the season, picked up his first major league win on May 22 against the Texas Rangers, then followed with a no-decision his last time out, on Sunday at Seattle. Against the Mariners, Ortiz gave up three runs on five hits in five innings. He walked four and struck out six. Ortiz has faced the Cardinals once, when he gave up six runs in two-thirds of an inning and took a loss on Oct. 1, 2022. Saturday will be a rematch, as Montgomery started got the win in that contest after allowing two runs in six innings. |

06-01-23 | Padres v. Marlins +1.5 | Top | 10-1 | Loss | -161 | 3 h 1 m | Show |
On Thursday, Marlins left-hander Jesus Luzardo (4-3, 3.67 ERA) will go up against San Diego right-hander Joe Musgrove (2-2, 5.64). Luzardo has yet to beat the Padres, going 0-2 with a 5.06 ERA in two starts. In 23 career starts at Miami, Luzardo is 7-8 with a 4.29 ERA. Musgrove, meanwhile, has had good success against the Marlins, going 3-1 with a 2.64 ERA in five career starts, including a 2-1 record with a 3.06 ERA in three starts at Miami. |

05-31-23 | Yankees v. Mariners -1.5 | Top | 0-1 | Loss | -100 | 11 h 43 m | Show |
The Yankees will try to sweep the three-game series Wednesday night when they send Clarke Schmidt (2-5, 5.58 ERA) to the mound against Seattle's George Kirby (5-4, 3.43) in a matchup of young right-handers. |
|||||||
05-30-23 | Brewers +1.5 v. Blue Jays | Top | 2-7 | Loss | -149 | 8 h 35 m | Show |
The Toronto Blue Jays hope left-hander Yusei Kikuchi can regain his early-season form Tuesday night against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers in the opener of a three-game series. After going 5-0 with a 3.35 ERA in his first seven starts this season, Kikuchi is 0-2 with a 7.90 ERA in his past three starts. The Blue Jays have won only four of their past 14 games after finishing a three-game series against the host Minnesota Twins with a 3-0 victory on Sunday to complete a 3-4 road trip. Kikuchi (5-2, 4.56) has faced the Brewers once in his career, allowing five runs (two earned) and six hits in two innings during a June outing last season at Milwaukee. The Brewers, first in the National League Central, completed a 3-4 homestand Sunday with a 7-5 victory over the San Francisco Giants. The Brewers are scheduled to start right-hander Adrian Houser (1-0, 2.25) on Tuesday. In his only career start against the Blue Jays, he allowed five earned runs and nine hits in six innings June 24 at Milwaukee, one day before Kikuchi pitched against the Brewers. The Blue Jays, last in the AL East, were encouraged by taking the three-game series at Minneapolis after losing their three previous series, all against division rivals. |

05-29-23 | Twins +1.5 v. Astros | Top | 7-5 | Win | 100 | 3 h 21 m | Show |
Rookie right-hander J.P. France (1-1, 3.43 ERA) is the scheduled starter for the Astros on Monday. He took a loss against the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday despite notching a career-high eight strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings while allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk. France will make his first career appearance against the Twins. He has held the opposition to one earned run or none in three of his four starts. Right-hander Sonny Gray (4-0, 1.82 ERA) has the starting assignment for the Twins. He leads the majors in ERA, adjusted ERA-plus (236) and fielding independent pitching (2.02), and has yet to surrender a home run over 54 1/3 innings this season. Gray has recorded four consecutive no-decisions while producing 25 strikeouts in 19 1/3 innings with a 3.72 ERA during that span. Minnesota dropped all four of the games, including a 4-3 setback to the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday during which Gray allowed two runs on six hits and two walks with six strikeouts over five-plus innings. Gray is 4-4 with a 2.90 ERA over 11 career starts against the Astros. On April 7, he allowed one run on four hits and one walk vs. Houston while recording a season-high 13 strikeouts over seven innings but did not factor into the decision during the Twins' 3-2, 10-inning home victory. |

05-24-23 | Astros -1.5 v. Brewers | Top | 0-4 | Loss | -100 | 13 h 8 m | Show |
-Brandon Bielak improved to 1-1, allowing one run on five hits and three walks in 5.0 innings, as the Houston Astros defeated the Oakland Athletics 5-1 on Friday. Bielak struck out nine, ending the game with a 2.89 ERA and 1.77 WHIP on the season. We;ll continue to ride him and the Astros in what should be an easy winner. |

05-20-23 | Red Sox +1.5 v. Padres | Top | 4-2 | Win | 100 | 11 h 13 m | Show |
Chris Sale is back. And the Boston Red Sox hope it stays that way. In his most recent start, the oft-injured left-hander held the St. Louis Cardinals to one run on three hits and a walk with nine strikeouts over eight innings at Fenway Park last Saturday. It marked the third time in his past five starts that Sale allowed only one run in an outing, although he walked away with a no-decision. Over those five starts, Sale has given up 11 runs on 25 hits and five walks with 35 strikeouts in 31 1/3 innings for a 3.16 ERA. Sale is 2-1 in those starts, and the Red Sox are 3-2. Overall, Boston is 5-3 in Sale's eight starts this season -- which is only three starts less than his total over the past three seasons. Now, Sale (3-2, 5.40 ERA) will make his ninth start of 2023 on Saturday night in San Diego against Padres right-hander Joe Musgrove (1-1, 6.63). |

05-20-23 | Cubs +1.5 v. Phillies | Top | 3-12 | Loss | -140 | 5 h 15 m | Show |
Chicago Cubs right-hander Jameson Taillon expects to be around for the long haul when he takes the mound against the host Philadelphia Phillies in the second game of a three-game series on Saturday. Pitching deep into games has eluded the right-hander through six starts this season, however. Taillon (0-2, 6.66 ERA) went deep into starts fairly regularly for the New York Yankees last season, pitching at least six innings in 13 of 32 starts, helping him finish 14-5 with a 3.91 ERA. The 31-year-old veteran threw five shutout innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 15, matching his longest outing of the year, and appeared to be ramping up for an even longer outing. However, he went on the injured list with a groin injury shortly afterward. After missing nearly three weeks, Taillon has thrown a combined 10 1/3 innings over his past three starts, posting a 9.58 ERA in that span. Aaron Nola (3-3, 4.53 ERA) is scheduled to take the mound for Philadelphia. The 29-year-old right-hander allowed four runs and six hits over seven innings in his latest outing but did not receive any run support in a 4-0 loss the Colorado Rockies on Sunday in Denver. The defeat prevented Philadelphia from recording its first sweep of a series longer than two games this season. |

05-17-23 | Diamondbacks -1.5 v. A's | Top | 5-3 | Win | 100 | 6 h 55 m | Show |
Having won 5-2 on Monday night and seeking a second consecutive series win, Arizona will send right-hander Ryne Nelson (1-2, 6.20 ERA) to the hill to oppose Oakland righty Luis Medina (0-2, 8.18). Neither has ever faced his Wednesday opponent. Nelson pitched a team win -- he didn't get a decision -- for just the second time this season when he went 4 2/3 innings, allowing four runs, as Arizona beat the San Francisco Giants 7-5 on Friday. Medina will be making his third major league start in hopes he can improve as much between his second and third as he did between his first and second. After serving up eight runs (seven earned) in five innings during an 11-3 loss to the Los Angeles Angels in his debut, the 24-year-old limited the Rangers to three runs over six innings in a 4-0 home loss on Thursday. He walked three and gave up two homers against the Angels, then walked nobody and got bashed for just one homer against the Rangers. |

05-16-23 | Yankees +1.5 v. Blue Jays | Top | 6-3 | Win | 100 | 9 h 27 m | Show |
Right-hander Kevin Gausman (2-3, 3.38 ERA) will start for the Blue Jays on Tuesday. Gausman is 9-7 with a 3.32 ERA in 28 career appearances (22 starts) against the Yankees. Gausman will be opposed by fellow right-hander Domingo German (2-3, 4.00), who is 2-5 with a 4.11 ERA in eight career appearances (six starts) against the Blue Jays. |
|||||||
05-16-23 | Pirates v. Tigers -1.5 | Top | 0-4 | Win | 165 | 9 h 7 m | Show |
Michael Lorenzen will start the first game of the series before ace Eduardo Rodriguez takes the mound on Wednesday afternoon. Rodriguez has allowed just two runs in his last six outings. Lorenzen (1-2, 4.18 ERA), signed to a one-year contract as a free agent during the offseason, has delivered two stellar performances this month after an uneven start. He limited both the New York Mets and Cleveland Guardians to one run in seven innings, although he was a hard-luck loser against the Guardians on Tuesday in a 2-0 defeat. Lorenzen relied on a changeup to set up his other pitches, throwing 25 of them among his 98 pitches. Pirates right-hander Luis Ortiz (0-1, 3.60 ERA) will make his second start of the season. He gave up five runs and seven hits in five innings against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday, but only two of the runs were earned. The Rockies benefitted from a throwing error as well as a fielder's choice that could have resulted in an inning-ending double play. |
|||||||
05-13-23 | Reds v. Marlins -1.5 | Top | 6-5 | Loss | -100 | 3 h 51 m | Show |
Miami Marlins ace right-hander Sandy Alcantara will be operating on five days of rest when he faces the visiting Cincinnati Reds on Saturday. That's important because in 48 career starts with five days of rest, Alcantara has a 3.41 ERA. But in 51 career starts on four days of rest, Alcantara's ERA is significantly better at 3.00. This year, the difference is much greater, even though it's a small sample size. In two starts with four days of rest, Alcantara is 1-0 with a sterling 1.04 ERA, pitching similarly to how he did last year when he was named the National League's Cy Young Award winner. However, in three starts with five days of rest, Alcantara is 0-3 with a 9.00 ERA. Against the Reds, Alcantara is 2-2 with a 2.03 ERA in six appearances, including four starts. In seven starts this season, he is 1-3 with a 4.53 ERA, with the lone win coming April 4. He is winless in his past five starts, but in his most recent outing, he allowed just two runs in 8 1/3 innings against the Cubs. Alcantara got a no-decision, but the Marlins went on to win 5-4 in 14 innings. |
|||||||
05-11-23 | White Sox v. Royals +1.5 | Top | 3-4 | Win | 100 | 3 h 4 m | Show |
Mike Clevinger (2-3, 4.84 ERA) takes the mound, undefeated in 14 career appearances against the Royals with 13 starts, posting a 9-0 record and 1.98 ERA. He last faced Kansas City in a no-decision on July 25, 2020, when he struck out six and surrendered two earned runs over seven innings. After beginning the season with wins in each of his first two starts, Clevinger has lost three and pitched a pair of no-decisions. In his last appearance Saturday at Cincinnati, Clevinger struck out seven and gave up four earned runs over six innings in his third loss of the season. Brady Singer (2-4, 8.82) makes the start for the Royals in Thursday's matchup, looking to bounce back after losses in each of his last two starts, and four of five overall. Singer last appeared Saturday, giving up five earned runs in four innings in a loss to Oakland. The four innings were the second-fewest Singer worked in his seven starts of the season, save only his prior appearance April 30 at Minnesota. Thursday marks Singer's 10th appearance against the White Sox and ninth start, the last coming Aug. 30, 2022, when he struck out four and gave up four earned runs in a no-decision. He recorded a win over Chicago the same month, allowing just one earned run over 7 1/3 innings. Singer is 3-2 all-time against the White Sox with a 3.35 ERA and 46 strikeou |

05-10-23 | A's v. Yankees -1.5 | Top | 3-11 | Win | 100 | 3 h 29 m | Show |
 Jhony Brito (2-3, 6.08 ERA) will make his eighth career start on Wednesday. Brito has allowed three runs or fewer in five of his starts but is coming off his second-worst outing, when he allowed four runs on six hits in four innings during a no-decision at Tampa Bay on Friday. Kyle Muller (1-2, 6.62 ERA) goes for the A's on Wednesday, hoping to turn in a solid outing for an Oakland rotation that is 2-19 with a major league-worst 7.76 ERA. Muller allowed five runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings and got a win over the host Kansas City Royals on Friday. It was the first victory by an Oakland starter through 33 games, the longest drought to open a season in baseball history, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. Neither Brito nor Muller has previously faced his Wednesday opponent. |

05-09-23 | Rays -1.5 v. Orioles | Top | 2-4 | Loss | -100 | 15 h 48 m | Show |
The Rays, who are seeking their 10th win in their past 12 games, will look to take the three-game series behind Zach Eflin (4-0, 2.25 ERA) on Tuesday. The right-hander allowed just three hits to go along with 10 strikeouts and no walks over seven innings of a 3-2 win over the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates last Thursday. Eflin hasn't faced the Orioles since he was a member of the Phillies during the 2020 season, when he allowed four runs on seven hits with 10 strikeouts and a walk in a 5-4 loss. The Rays are counting on a long outing from Eflin considering their bullpen is in flux after left-handed reliever Garrett Cleavinger was put on the 15-day injured list on Monday with an apparent right ACL injury. The Orioles, who lost a series opener for the first time this season after winning their first 11, will counter with rookie right-hander Grayson Rodriguez (1-0, 5.46). Rodriguez did not earn a decision after getting rocked for six runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and a walk in just 3 2/3 innings in a 13-10 win over the host Kansas City Royals last Thursday. He has never faced the Rays. |

05-07-23 | Blue Jays -1.5 v. Pirates | Top | 10-1 | Win | 125 | 5 h 52 m | Show |
Pittsburgh was without designated hitter Andrew McCutchen and infielder Ji Hwan Bae, who sustained ankle injuries Friday -- McCutchen during pregame warmups and Bae coming out of the batter's box in the eighth. Shelton said McCutchen and Bae are "trending in the right direction." In the series finale, Toronto left-hander Yusei Kikuchi (4-0, 4.02 ERA) is scheduled to oppose Pittsburgh right-hander Roansy Contreras (3-2, 4.09). As with most of the Blue Jays rotation, Kikuchi got caught up in the team's five-game losing streak entering this series. On Tuesday against Boston, he did not get a decision after allowing five runs and nine hits in 4 1/3 innings. Among the first six hits off him were three doubles and a homer. Kikuchi is 0-0 with a 7.11 ERA in two career appearances, one start, against Pittsburgh. Contreras was cruising along with three straight quality starts, going 2-0 in those games, before he stumbled in his most recent outing. He gave up four runs and six hits in 5 1/3 innings Tuesday against Tampa Bay and was visibly frustrated in the dugout when he came out of the game. In his only appearance against Toronto, a start last Sept. 3, Contreras had a quality start but did not get a decision. He allowed one run and four hits in six innings, with five strikeouts and two walks. |

05-06-23 | Astros v. Mariners +1.5 | Top | 5-7 | Win | 100 | 12 h 30 m | Show |
The Mariners plan to start left-hander Marco Gonzales (2-0, 4.74 ERA) on Saturday. He has struggled against the Astros, going 2-9 with a 4.89 ERA in 14 career appearances (13 starts). The Astros called up fellow right-hander J.P. France from Triple-A Sugar Land. France is scheduled to make his major-league debut Saturday night at Seattle in the middle contest of the teams' three-game series. |
|||||||
05-03-23 | Diamondbacks +1.5 v. Rangers | Top | 12-7 | Win | 100 | 4 h 24 m | Show |
Arizona Diamondbacks top pitching prospect Brandon Pfaadt is going to have his hands full when he makes his major league debut against the Texas Rangers on Wednesday in Arlington, Texas. The Rangers are swinging the bats as well as anyone in baseball. They pounded the New York Yankees and All-Star Nestor Cortes in a 15-2 victory on Sunday, and then began their rally from a 4-1 deficit against Diamondbacks ace Zac Gallen on Tuesday en route to a 6-4 victory. Texas left-hander Andrew Heaney (2-2, 4.38 ERA) will make his sixth start of the season on Wednesday. Heaney turned in a quality start in his previous outing, allowing three runs over six innings, but it was a losing effort against the Yankees on Thursday after he yielded three runs on four hits. Heaney gave up all three runs in the second inning that night, and he will look to avoid falling in an early hole again. |

05-02-23 | Guardians v. Yankees -1.5 | Top | 2-4 | Win | 125 | 20 h 15 m | Show |
Guardians steal a win in game one but historically Cleveland has not fared well against the Yankees and we're more than willing to lay the 1 1/2 with Cole to get some plus money. |

05-01-23 | Reds v. Padres -1.5 | Top | 3-8 | Win | 100 | 19 h 20 m | Show |
Weaver is 3-5 lifetime against the Padres with a 3.97 ERA in 13 games (nine starts). A notoriously slow starter, Snell vowed during spring training to get off to a faster start. The Padres are 0-5 in his starts to date. He has given up 15 runs (14 earned) on 25 hits and 18 walks with 26 strikeouts in 23 innings. But he has allowed two runs over five innings in each of his last two starts against Atlanta and the Chicago Cubs. |
|||||||
05-01-23 | Guardians +1.5 v. Yankees | Top | 3-2 | Win | 100 | 17 h 57 m | Show |
Domingo German (2-2, 5.54 ERA) opens the series for the Yankees and makes his third start since retiring the first 16 Minnesota Twins on April 15, striking out 11 and getting checked for sticky substances three times. In two starts since then, he has allowed 10 runs and 10 hits, including five homers in outings against the Toronto Blue Jays and Minnesota. On Wednesday, German allowed six runs on five hits in six innings and got the win when New York recorded a 12-6 victory. German is 1-2 with a 4.68 ERA in five career starts against the Guardians. He last faced them April 10 in Cleveland when he allowed two runs in three innings but also issued five walks without getting a strikeout. Cal Quantrill (1-2, 5.40) goes for Cleveland and is coming off his shortest outing so far. In a 6-0 loss to Colorado on Monday, he allowed five runs on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings. The rough outing occurred after he tossed six scoreless innings in a 3-2 win at Detroit on April 19. |

04-28-23 | Royals +1.5 v. Twins | Top | 6-8 | Loss | -100 | 17 h 16 m | Show |

04-23-23 | Rockies v. Phillies -1.5 | Top | 3-9 | Win | 100 | 1 h 3 m | Show |
The Phillies will send Zack Wheeler (1-1, 4.79 ERA) to the mound Sunday. In four career starts against the Rockies, Wheeler is 2-2 with a 5.16 ERA. The Rockies will look for the series split. Yonathan Daza had two hits and an RBI while C.J. Cron and Elias Diaz added two hits apiece in Saturday's setback. But the Rockies lost Kris Bryant as he was lifted for a pinch hitter in the third inning. Bryant played only 42 games last season and wound up on the injured list three separate times. After the loss, manager Bud Black said that Bryant was considered day-to-day with an SI joint and glute injury. "His swing was compromised a little bit when he put his foot down," Black said. "There was some pain." Jose Urena (0-3, 9.82 ERA) will take the ball for the Rockies on Sunday. Urena struggled in his last start against the Pittsburgh Pirates as he allowed seven hits and five runs in 4 2/3 innings. Urena has allowed seven home runs in his four starts. He allowed just 10 all of last season in 17 starts. |
