PICKS IN PROGRESS
Arizona qualifies in one of the most profitable high-ROI Week 1 systems on the board.
Week 1 underdogs of at least seven points in games with totals of 44 or higher are 30-12 ATS — 71.4% — with a 36.4% ROI. Arizona is getting +9.5 with a total of 47.5, putting the Cardinals squarely into that situation.
That system does not have the massive raw-unit profile of some of our biggest historical angles, but the 36.4% ROI is substantial enough to command serious weight.
There is independent sharp support as well. Arizona was released at +10.5 earlier in the week, with the handicap centered on the Chargers' offensive-line questions and the likelihood that Arizona possesses enough offensive firepower to remain within a large number. The current market has settled around +9.5, which still qualifies in the league-wide system.
The contrarian component also supports Arizona. The Chargers are attracting a clear majority of spread tickets across major national wagering pools, while Arizona remains the uncomfortable side for recreational bettors. (DraftKings Network)
Arizona's most important injury variable is rookie running back Jeremiyah Love. The No. 3 overall pick suffered a high ankle sprain in August but returned to movement work this week, and the Cardinals have expressed optimism that he can play. Before the injury, Love showed his explosiveness with 58 rushing yards on 11 carries plus three receptions for 14 yards in his preseason appearance against Las Vegas. (Reuters)
The number provides considerable margin for error. Arizona does not have to be the better team. The Chargers can control the game and still fail to cover a spread approaching double digits. That distinction becomes especially important in Week 1, when offensive timing and late-game substitution patterns are less predictable than they will be later in the season.
The current total of 47.5 also matters because it creates enough expected scoring for a large underdog to remain live through the back door. A 30-21 or 27-20 type result gets Arizona comfortably home.
3* MAJOR — ARIZONA +9.5 over L.A. CHARGERS — 4:25 ET
Take +9.5 or better. +10 would be materially stronger if it becomes available.
A super sharp position was released at Jacksonville -7.5, with the underlying power rating making the Jaguars a double-digit favorite. The central argument is that Cleveland enters a new season without Myles Garrett, has significant questions in the secondary and remains dependent on Deshaun Watson while developing a young receiving corps.
The matchup is particularly difficult for Cleveland's defense because Jacksonville can distribute the ball across multiple receiving options rather than allowing the Browns to remove one primary target.
The current market matters enormously. -7.5 remains available at some books, while others have moved as high as Jacksonville -8.5.
3* MAJOR JACKSONVILLE -7.5 over CLEVELAND — 1:00 ET
The value in this matchup has been created by both the market and the public.
Pittsburgh opened approximately -2.5 and has been pushed through the NFL's most important key number to -3.5. Rather than lay the inflated price after the move, Atlanta now receives the enormously valuable hook above a field goal.
That is particularly attractive because a respected sharp position also makes Atlanta the preferred side at +3.5 and independently prices Pittsburgh closer to -2.
The public picture adds another layer. Broad recreational wagering has gravitated strongly toward Pittsburgh, making Atlanta a meaningful corroborated contrarian position. At one major national book, roughly seven of every 10 spread tickets are currently backing the Steelers, and the larger consensus picture also tilts Pittsburgh. (DraftKings Network)
Atlanta has now confirmed Tua Tagovailoa as its Week 1 starter. Michael Penix Jr. will be inactive as he continues working back from ACL surgery, while Cooper Rush will serve as the backup. That removes the uncertainty that surrounded the quarterback competition throughout camp. Tagovailoa owns a career 68% completion rate and gives Kevin Stefanski an experienced quarterback capable of distributing the ball quickly and mitigating Pittsburgh's pass rush. (Reuters)
The Falcons' offensive personnel around him is the attraction. Atlanta does not need Tua to carry the game vertically for 60 minutes. The structure allows him to operate through timing, yards after catch and a balanced attack rather than repeatedly holding the ball against pressure.
The reason this is a Major rather than a Wise Guy is Atlanta's edge-rushing situation. Jalon Walker, who had 5.5 sacks last season, is out for the year with a torn ACL, while James Pearce Jr., who recorded 10.5 sacks in 2025, is suspended for the first eight games. Atlanta brought Za'Darius Smith out of retirement to reinforce the room, but the Falcons are unquestionably thinner on the edge than planned. (Behind the Steel Curtain)
Even with that concern, +3.5 is the correct side of the number. We are getting the key-number hook, fading a move through 3 and taking the less popular team in a game that a strong independent power-line assessment makes closer to Pittsburgh -2.
3* MAJOR — ATLANTA +3.5 over PITTSBURGH — 1:00 ET
Take +3.5. At +3, this drops substantially because the hook is a major part of the value.
Several independent Week 1 situations point toward a low-scoring game in Houston.
Non-divisional dome games in the first week of the season have gone 1-9 O/U over the last four years, producing only 33.4 combined points per game. Another situation involving early-season dome teams beginning consecutive home games with totals of at least 43 has gone 4-21 O/U over the last four seasons. Houston fits that profile at NRG Stadium.
The series itself has consistently played beneath market expectations. The last five Buffalo-Houston meetings have gone 0-5 O/U and averaged only 39.8 combined points.
The central matchup is Houston's defensive front against Josh Allen. The Texans generated pressure on 40.3% of opposing dropbacks last season despite blitzing only 16.7% of the time, the NFL's lowest blitz rate. That ability to create pressure with four is extremely important against Buffalo because Houston can keep seven defenders in coverage without giving Allen obvious hot-read opportunities.
When these teams met last season, Houston pressured Allen on 43.5% of his dropbacks and generated seven of its eight sacks without blitzing. That is not merely a generic defensive statistic; it is a demonstrated matchup problem for Buffalo's protection structure. (Buffalo Rumblings)
Houston finished last season No. 1 in yards allowed at approximately 277 per game and No. 2 in scoring defense at 17.4 points per game. The Texans opened last season 0-4 O/U and remained 3-10 O/U through their first 13 games. Buffalo has also been considerably less explosive away from home: Bills road games averaged more than 10 fewer combined points than their home games last season, and Buffalo is 5-19 O/U on the road in Games 1-12 over the last four seasons.
The current market is approximately Buffalo -1.5 with a total of 44.5, which is the price we want. (Bet365 News)
Houston's ability to pressure without blitzing should discourage Buffalo from living in the deep passing game and encourage more James Cook involvement. That combination favors sustained possessions, clock movement and fewer explosive plays.
3* MAJOR — BUFFALO–HOUSTON UNDER 44.5
Play UNDER 44.5. Pass if the total drops below 43.5.
Minnesota has a compelling combination of personnel advantage, sharp support and contrarian value at a very manageable number.
A high-confidence sharp position was released on Minnesota -1 and priced the game closer to Vikings -3. The current -1.5 remains well inside that assessment and is still a realistic market number.
Green Bay's offensive losses matter directly to this matchup. Josh Jacobs is unavailable, removing the Packers' primary runner and forcing greater responsibility onto the passing game. That is problematic against a Brian Flores defense built around disguising pressure and creating protection conflicts.
The matchup becomes more difficult with Jordan Morgan taking over at left tackle. Minnesota can dictate protection calls by threatening pressure from multiple levels, then either bringing it or dropping defenders into coverage. An inexperienced tackle facing that structure without Jacobs available to stabilize the offense is a material downgrade.
The Packers are also without Micah Parsons on defense and have undergone a coordinator change, while Minnesota enters with Christian Darrisaw healthy and Kyler Murray installed as the starting quarterback. (Daily Norseman)
The wagering market offers another reason to prefer Minnesota. One of the largest regulated books is currently taking a very heavy percentage of spread tickets on Green Bay as the road underdog. That makes Minnesota a particularly attractive contrarian favorite in the NFL, where public underdogs deserve additional scrutiny. (DraftKings Network)
The broader consensus is not universally as lopsided, which is why this remains a Major instead of moving higher. But the strongest personnel and sharp information both point in the same direction, and we only need Minnesota to win by two.
4* WISE GUY — MINNESOTA -1.5 over GREEN BAY — 4:25 ET
Lay -1.5. Playable through -2. At -2.5 the value becomes substantially less attractive and would be a Major instead.
This is the strongest system-based total on the Sunday board.
The premier league-wide situation isolates Week 1 divisional games with a short favorite, a total below 47 and specific previous-season win parameters. It has gone an extraordinary 24-1 UNDER — 96.0% — with an 83.3% ROI. Minnesota is -1.5 with the total at 46.5, putting this matchup directly into the qualifying range.
There is meaningful independent historical corroboration. Week 1 divisional home favorites with totals of at least 42 have gone 0-11 O/U over the last five seasons, with those games producing only 36.9 combined points on average. Green Bay also went 0-3 O/U in its first three games last season, and Packers games in Weeks 1-3 have gone 1-8 O/U over the last four seasons when the total was above 41. The two meetings between these teams last season finished 23-6 and 16-3.
The personnel picture strengthens the UNDER. Green Bay enters the opener without Josh Jacobs, removing its primary rushing engine and forcing more responsibility onto the passing game. Micah Parsons is also sidelined on defense. The Packers are breaking in Jordan Morgan at left tackle, a particularly difficult assignment against Brian Flores' pressure packages. Minnesota's defense finished last season playing outstanding low-scoring football, with its final nine games going 1-8 O/U and averaging only 34.3 combined points. (Daily Norseman)
Minnesota has a new quarterback in Kyler Murray, another reason to expect Kevin O'Connell to prioritize efficiency rather than immediately turn the opener into a high-volume passing contest. The Vikings have Christian Darrisaw back healthy at left tackle, which should help them maintain a balanced offensive approach and stay out of obvious passing situations. (Daily Norseman)
The setting is also ideal. U.S. Bank Stadium removes weather randomness, so there is no wind or precipitation variable that could accidentally create short fields or unusual special-teams situations.
The current 46.5 is particularly attractive because the total sits just below the 47-point ceiling in the 24-1 system. This is also one of the more common key regions for NFL totals, making every half-point increasingly important as the number drops.
4* WISE GUY — GREEN BAY–MINNESOTA UNDER 46.5
Play UNDER 46.5. At 45.5 it remains playable, but 46.5 is clearly preferred.

Joe Duffy: Grandmaster of Sports Handicapping
For more than three decades, Joe Duffy has been synonymous with winning sports betting advice, carving out a legacy as one of the most respected and innovative handicappers in the industry. Known as the “Grandmaster Sports Handicapper” and CEO of OffshoreInsiders.com, Duffy has built a career on sharp analysis, proprietary systems, and a relentless drive to stay ahead of oddsmakers.
Early Life & Education
Always academically driven, he studied at California University of Pennsylvania, where he excelled in logic, language, and analytical thinking—skills that would become the foundation of his handicapping career. Even in college, Duffy was fascinated by patterns, probability, and statistics, often diving into databases to find edges that others overlooked.
Breaking Into Sports Handicapping
In the 1980s, Duffy began working with the famous scorephone era of sports betting hotlines, quickly earning a reputation for accuracy and insight. His nickname, “The NFL Specialist,” was born during this time, as his dominance in pro football betting separated him from peers. By the late 1980s, Duffy had already built a loyal following of bettors who relied on his plays week after week.
Professional Legacy
In the 1990s, as offshore betting surged, Joe Duffy became a pioneer in bringing high-level handicapping to the digital age. He founded OffshoreInsiders.com, which grew into one of the most trusted brands in sports betting analysis. Through it, he launched Joe Duffy’s Picks, offering premium selections that emphasized:
Wise Guy Plays – Marketed as the strongest bets in gambling, backed by data and contrarian analysis. Named Plays – Proprietary angles and situational systems, such as Bubble Burst Theory, Momentum vs. Regression, and weather-based totals systems. Economy Line – Affordable packages designed for casual bettors, balancing accessibility with winning insight.
Duffy’s systems are built on historical databases, AI integration, computer simulations, and sharp outsourcing. He is known for incorporating data from sources like TeamRankings, Football Outsiders, Prediction Machine, Massey Ratings, Accuscore, KenPom, and FiveThirtyEight, blending commercial analytics with his own proprietary power ratings.
Betting Philosophy & Innovation
Joe Duffy’s philosophy includes contrarian thinking and advanced analytics: identifying when the public and oddsmakers overvalue narratives and exploiting inefficiencies. He often stresses:
Fading public bias when betting percentages and money splits diverge. Exploiting line moves caused by perception rather than sharp action. Leveraging weather, travel, and motivational angles that oddsmakers undervalue. Using lag vs. lead indicators to predict when a team is due for regression or continuation.
His famous line: “I don’t predict the future—I exploit the present market.”
Recognition and Reputation
Duffy is considered by many peers and bettors as the gold standard in NFL preseason betting and among the top long-term winners across all major sports. He has documented winning systems that span thousands of plays, including totals systems, wind-based unders, and dog trends early in the season.
He is widely respected for his transparency, detailed record-keeping, and willingness to educate bettors, not just sell picks. His YouTube, LinkedIn, and podcast content often blends strategy education with premium insights, making him both a teacher and a trusted betting advisor.
Lasting Legacy
With a career spanning from the scorephone days to the AI era, Joe Duffy stands as a bridge between the old-school “gut” handicappers and the modern wave of data-driven bettors. His name has become synonymous with Wise Guy plays, contrarian strategies, and sustained winning, ensuring his place as a true legend in sports handicapping.
