Odds to win the 2017 Stanley Cup
Looking for 2017 NHL Futures Odds & Picks? The NHL season is a couple of months old – most teams have played about a third of their Regular Season schedule. It may be time to take a peek at who Vegas likes so far this season and who they project the 2017 Stanley Cup Champion will be.
There are no surprises with the top 6 betting favorites but after that there are some true shocks – the Oilers head the list of teams that nobody saw coming this year.

So outside of the top dogs is there any value out there?
Let’s take a look at all of the NHL teams, the odds associated with them and break down their chances to hoist Lord Stanley’s Cup in the early summer.
2017 STANLEY CUP ODDS
Chicago Blackhawks +800
The Blackhawks have been banged up the last week or so – Jonathan Toews and Corey Crawford are on the shelf right now which could prove to be a good thing later on.
A little rest during the dog days of winter isn’t such a bad thing! With talent up and down the lineup, with buckets of playoff experience and with a relatively weak Western Conference staring them in the face Chicago is a worthy favorite.

They are my pick to win the West but to lose in the Final – to whom? Let’s take a peek.
Pittsburgh Penguins +1000
The defending Champs have done nothing this year to make us believe that another long playoff run isn’t imminent. They have the best player on the planet and they have two of the best top-two lines in the game.
The issue? Defense – the Pens have surrendered 80 goals in their 26 games – not good when it comes to playoff time.
I think there is better options in the competitive East out there although Pittsburgh will be in the mix throughout unless the annual injury bug bites this team again.
Washington Capitals +1100
The Caps currently sit in 10th place in the Overall Standings so it is a tad surprising to see them so high on this board.
But they have endured long playoff runs before and with Braden Holtby providing such stellar goaltending there is a ton of optimism that this could be Washington’s year.
I have less faith however – in the tough East, Washington is just another solid team that will fall short again this year.
New York Rangers +1100
The Rangers have been the highest scoring team in the NHL all season lone – they have 97 goals in 27 games which is seven more than Philadelphia and nine more than Pittsburgh.
They have allowed just 69 goals over that span – good for a terrific +28 goal differential. Goaltending, defense and special teams are keys in the playoffs – the Rangers have all in spades.
New York is a dangerous team indeed – my second favorite team to win it all behind…
Montreal Canadiens +1200
The Habs continue to lead the NHL Overall Standings and they are +1200? Great value for a team that looks like they are built for the playoffs.
Carey Price alone makes them a serious threat to win it all but the all-around play and cohesiveness without PK Subban gives this team a leg up. Forget that Montreal is just 4-4-2 in their last 10 games, they are the best of the East in my opinion and my pick to win it all.
Tampa Bay Lightning +1200
The Lightning are also good value – so close the last few years without reaching the pinnacle. The team hasn’t been great lately but they have been without Steven Stamkos who will return before the new year.
When he’s back Tampa becomes explosive. It would be advisable for the East to keep tabs on this team – their recent playoff experience and hunger makes them one to watch.
Edmonton Oilers +1200
Yup – the Oilers are in the mix in the West despite being 6-6-1 on home ice this year. Conor McDavid alone has taken this team to a different level. Do I like the direction of this team – absolutely.
[dfads params=’groups=226&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
Do I think they are ready to seriously contend in the playoffs? Not yet!
St. Louis Blues +1400
The Blues always tease us with a quality Regular Season and a flop in the playoffs. I don’t see that changing anytime soon.
San Jose Sharks +1400
The Sharks got a taste of playoff success last year and I think it translates to this year. They are my pick to seriously push Chicago in the weak-ish West.
Brent Burns has become an elite-caliber player and the veterans on this team should carry them a long way. Did I mention that they have given up a league-low 51 goals on the season?
The defense is on a different level right now. The window is closing on San Jose but I think one more long run is probable.
Anaheim Ducks +1600
I just can’t figure this team out!
Nashville Predators +2200
Looking for some value? How about Nashville who is middle-of-the-pack in the Standings but possesses enough talent all over the rink to make things interesting.
Their Power Play is tops in the league and we all know how important Special Teams are in the playoffs. Something tells me Nashville could threaten this year – don’t sleep on them!
Los Angeles Kings +2500
Once Jonathan Quick gets back from injury I will have to re-assess. Until then I withhold judgment on the Kings.
Columbus Blue Jackets +2500
The Jackets are 15-5-4 on the season and look like they could stay in the mix thanks to a terrific all around game.
They have scored 77 times in 24 games while allowing 53 (a terrific +24 goal differential) and Sergei Bobrovsky has returned to his elite-caliber goaltending ways.
While I don’t think Columbus poses a serious threat this year – it is worth noting their crazy success this year.
Dallas Stars +2800
24th in the Overall Standings? C’mon.
[dfads params=’groups=235&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
I think the Stars will be heard from yet but they aren’t close to the team I thought they were heading into the season.
Boston Bruins +2800
Tuukka Rask is back to form and making his team look a little better than they are.
Ottawa Senators +3300
Ottawa is 15-9-2 this season but they have scored just 64 goals and have a -3 goal differential – all troublesome signs for a team that has largely overachieved this year.
Emotion could carry this team a long way however – the cancer battle of Craig Anderson’s wife seems to be sparking some emotional play.
Philadelphia Flyers +4000
The Flyers have won six games in a row – the problem is that they have surrendered 87 goals this year – not good. It takes a strong defense to win it all – Philadelphia is nowhere near that!
- Minnesota Wild +2200
- Winnipeg Jets +3300
- Florida Panthers +3300
- New Jersey Devils +4000
- Toronto Maple Leafs +4000
- Calgary Flames +4000
- Detroit Red Wings +5000
- Colorado Avalanche +6600
- Carolina Hurricanes +7500
- Buffalo Sabres +7500
- New York Islanders +10000
- Vancouver Canucks +10000
- Arizona Coyotes +15000
