2017 Stanley Cup Predictions
Looking for 2017 NHL Futures Odds & Picks? The 2016-2017 Stanley Cup Regular Season is on the horizon – time to start thinking seriously about who could be hoisting Hockey’s Holy Grail early in the summer.
The usual suspects – Chicago and Pittsburgh enter the season as the betting favorites and rightfully so. But is there a sleeper out there that can offer a nice payday at season’s end?

Let’s break it all down and see if we can find some gold at the end of the 2016-2017 rainbow.
2017 STANLEY CUP ODDS
Chicago Blackhawks +750
– The Hawks as always are considered an elite team. They added Brian Campbell to the Blue Line but they didn’t do a whole lot outside of that to better themselves in the offseason.
The loss of Andrew Shaw and Tuevo Teravainen could loom large for a team that has a very tough Western Conference to deal with. There is no doubt that Chicago will be a top tier team but I like one team al little better in the West.
Pittsburgh Penguins +1000
– The same roster that won the cup last year returns to a team that could be in line to erase the history of bad starts. Most of the roster played in the World Cup and are already in form.
This team is still stacked up front and decent on defense as well. Pittsburgh with Crosby, Malkin, Letang and Kessel looks like a Champion to me – they are my pick to win the East and the Cup for the second year in a row.

Washington Capitals +1000
– The Caps disappointed in the playoffs after winning the President’s Trophy last year – the problem is that they didn’t do a whole lot to improve this offseason.
Can we expect Braden Holtby to repeat his performance from last year – I don’t know. This is a team that just can’t seem to get over the hump – I don’t think they do it this year either.
Tampa Bay Lightning +1000
– The Lightning had a lot of work to do in order to keep it all together in the offseason and they did just that. Signing Steven Stamkos is huge and management managed to lock up a few more key pieces.
This is a team that has been knocking on the door – my guess is that they do so again and give Pittsburgh a heck of a run.
Dallas Stars +1200
– The Stars will make the West interesting. Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin are lethal and this team has depth as well – Ales Hemsky, Juri Hudler and Patrick Sharp make this team pretty deep.
They picked up Dan Hamhuis on the blueline but lost a couple of defensive starters but in what looks like a wide-open West Dallas seems like the most dangerous team out there.
St. Louis Blues +1400
– The Blues are the Washington Capitals of the West – they just can’t seem to turn the corner.
They lost captain David Backes, playoff hero Troy Brouwer and goalie Brian Elliott which in my mind takes them out of serious contention for the Cup. St. Louis looks like a playoff team again – but that’s about it.
San Jose Sharks +1600
– The Sharks finally got rid of their “choker” title last year and made a good run only to fall flat in the Final. The team didn’t make a whole lot of moves during the offseason – I don’t know if that is a good thing or a bad thing.
The one thing I do know is that no team in the past eight seasons has lost in the final and gotten back the next year. San Jose caught lightning in a bottle last year and although they are certainly a good team my guess is that they won’t be great.
Nashville Predators +1600
– The Predators are a sexy pick to do something this season – their up-tempo style and their addition of PK Subban at the expense of Shea Weber has Nashville on many people’s radar.
Not mine – Pekka Rinne has shown steady decline the last few seasons and the defense as a whole looks to be a bit of a bugaboo.

Anaheim Ducks +1600
– the Ducks have as much talent as anyone in the league but just can’t seem to put it all together. Does the hiring of Randy Carlyle for the fired Bruce Boudreau make that much of a difference? I don’t think so.
Florida Panthers +1600
– should be a fun year with all the retooling and the young superstars on the team. The Panthers still look like they are a year or two away though.
Los Angeles Kings +1800
– The Kings always seem to be in the conversation but this is a team that hasn’t gotten better in the last two years.
The loss of Milan Lucic in the offseason could loom large for a team that looks as though they have seen their best days.
Minnesota Wild +2500
– new coach Bruce Boudreau comes over to improve a slightly above average team. I don’t think the addition of Eric Staal is the answer!
New York Rangers +2500
– The Rangers lost some key members of their defense – I am not sure that their additions of depth forwards will have done them any favors.

Detroit Red Wings +2500
– Pavel Datsyuk went back to Russia – that’s enough to keep the Wings off my radar!
New York Islanders +2500
– lost two key members in the offseason – Kyle Okposo and Frans Nielson which is a problem for his team.
Boston Bruins +2500
– David Backes was a nice addition to the forward group but why they didn’t address a troublesome blue line in the offseason is a mystery to me.
Montreal Canadiens +2500
– No love for the Habs! They acquired She Weber, Andrew Shaw and Alexander Radulov in the offseason and lost PK Subban – I’d say they got a whole lot better.
Oh ya – Carey Price looks to be back to full health and in midseason form already – he makes them a Cup contender all by himself! There is no better value on the board right now.
