2016 Stanley Cup Winner
Looking for 2016 Stanley Cup Futures Odds and some great NHL betting lines to get down on? The Stanley Cup playoffs began this week – the slate was been wiped clean and all that was good during the Regular Season won’t mean a thing unless teams can keep their roll going during the second season.

Vegas has come out with each team’s odds to win the Cup – the Caps are the favorites for good reason while there is a ton of uncertainty as to who will come out of the West. Is there some value down the list this year?
Let’s take a look at all 16 teams left and analyze their chances of hoisting Lord Stanley’s Cup in a couple of month’s time.
Washington Capitals 2016 Stanley Cup Futures Odds +400
How good were the Washington Capitals this past season? They dominated the league from start to finish – they finished with 120 points! They were 2nd in goals for, 3rd in goals against, 4th on the power play and 4th in the penalty kill – incredible.
[dfads params=’groups=234&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
They had five players with 50+ points – T.J. Oshie (51), Justin Williams (52), Nicklas Backstrom (70), Ovechkin (71) and Kuznetsov (77) and Braden Holtly was one of the best goalkeepers in the NHL all season long.
It ain’t a sexy pick but the Caps have been just too good in all aspects of the game to be ignored.
The fact that only two of the last 10 President’s Trophy winning teams has gone on to win the Cup doesn’t scare me. The Caps are legit in both ends of the rink and my pick to win it all.
Los Angeles Kings 2016 Stanley Cup Futures Odds +800
The Kings have the formula for success in the playoffs – they are big, durable and skilled. The thing that has me shying away from them this year is an inconsistency that plagued them throughout the season.
LA has been prone to extended lapses – I can’t get over that fact in a two month grind that is the Stanley Cup playoffs. A lack of depth on defense after Drew Doughty and Jake Muzzin is also a concern for me.
Chicago Blackhawks 2016 Stanley Cup Futures Odds +800
Experience and depth have the Hawks looking like a favorite again. Jonathan Toews, Marian Hossa, Patrick Kane, Duncan Keith, Niklas Hjalmarsson, Brent Seabrook and goaltender Corey Crawford are all back and playing at a high level – all have won the cup three times in the last six seasons.
They also added some serious veteran depth at the trade deadline. Look, the West is tough but the Hawks are in the elite of that division.

To me it looks like the Hawks that win the West and maybe the…
Anaheim Ducks 2016 Stanley Cup Futures Odds +800
No team won more games after Christmas than the Ducks.
Their success surprisingly is due to their strong defensive play – they were the #1 defensive team in the NHL this past season.
They have size, strength, skill and experience to go along with their newfound defensive chops. One red flag is their offensive struggles that could come into play but I’m not scared.
The Ducks were my pick to win the West at the beginning of the season and are my pick now. Chicago is going to be tough for sure – it is someone else’s turn for glory in 2016.
Dallas Stars 2016 Stanley Cup Futures Odds +800
I have a hard time recommending the Stars. Sure their offense is off-the-charts (they were the top scoring team in the league this past season) but the defense and goaltending just hasn’t been up to the level that it needs to be to get to the promise land.
The Stars will score goals guaranteed – keeping them out will be their Achilles heel!
Pittsburgh Penguins +800
The Penguins were a different team after they let Coach Mike Johnson go – Mike Sullivan made this team a whole lot more responsible in both ends of the rink. The Pens went 33-16-5 under their new coach.
A lot of people are on the Penguins bandwagon right now but consider that Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang, Marc-Andre Fleury, Olli Maatta and Beau Bennett are banged up heading into the playoffs.
St. Louis Blues +1000
The Blues just can’t seem to win in the playoffs despite having a team that seems perfectly suited for the grind. They are solid in every aspect of the game – Vladimir Tarasenko up front, Alex Pietrangelo and Kevin Shattenkirk on the back-end and goalie Brian Elliott are all top tier players at their position.
The Blues also have some depth and a Ken Hitchcock system that should translate to success. The issue – they face the Blackhawks in the first round!
New York Rangers +1600
The Rangers haven’t looked like the Rangers this year but there is no denying their recent playoff success. They have gone into the second round four straight years and have been to the Conference final the last two.
Any team that boasts Henrik Lundqvist has to be in the conversation – his save percentages the last four years are .931, .934, .927 and .928, respectively – incredible. New York is decent value at +1600 – their experience alone makes them my sleeper in the East.
San Jose Sharks +1600
The Sharks face the Kings in Round 1 – the winner of that series will likely be battered and bruised! But the Sharks were the 4th best offense in the NHL this past season – their depth at center is like no other team in the playoffs.
I’m not betting on a team that collapses every postseason however – they have lost their last two playoff series against LA to boot.
Florida Panthers +1600
The Cinderella Panthers have a manageable first round series against the Islanders and after that – who knows? Florida has been terrific five-on-five this season but has not been good on special teams.
I am a believer that power plays and penalty killing is essential in the playoffs. The clock is likely to strike midnight for the Panthers – maybe not in the first round however.
Tampa Bay Lightning +2000
Went to the Cup Final last year but will be forced to play without Steven Stamkos this year – quite a blow! Anton Stralman, Victor Hedman, Ryan Callahan and Tyler Johnson are also nicked up heading into the first round – nuff said!
Nashville Predators +2500
This looks like an average team to me and Pekka Rinne hasn’t exactly been up to his normal self this year. They face the Ducks in the first round – no team won more games than Anaheim post-Christmas.
[dfads params=’groups=235&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
The West is mighty tough – I can’t imagine in my wildest dreams the Preds winning it all.
New York Islanders +2500
Had a 100-point season and they sit at +2500.
Yup – nobody on the team played particularly well this year shockingly and Anders Lee, Travis Hamonic, Mikhail Grabovski, Jaroslav Halas and a host of role players are highly questionable to be able to start the series against Florida.
Health is a serious concern although if they get by Florida they will face the winner of the Lightning/Red Wings series.
Minnesota Wild +2800
The Wild have a first round series against the mighty Stars – I don’t think they win that. I suppose John Torchetti could continue his magic and that Devan Dubnyk could become Superman but I can’t see it happening.
Philadelphia Flyers +2800
The Flyers were one of the best teams in the NHL down the stretch – they went 15-6-4 in their last 25. But and that is a BIG BUT they face the Capitals in the first round of the playoffs. It is hard to see Washington losing four times in the next couple of weeks.
Detroit Red Wings +3300
The longest shot in the playoffs still have Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg and they have some key young players lacing up the skates for them. Detroit’s defense is amongst the worst in the playoffs – not a good sign but with Datsyuk already announcing that this will be his final NHL season his team could rise to the occasion for him.
A first round meeting with the banged up Lightning is further reason for intrigue.
