1. Milwaukee Bucks

The Milwaukee Bucks not only have a stranglehold on the first seed out East (they’re a full two games ahead of the Toronto Raptors), but they’re the only team in the NBA to have won nine of their last 10. On top of all that, Giannis Antetokounmpo has officially overtaken James Harden as the odds-on favorite to win MVP this season. Things are going right for Milwaukee. We have to reward them appropriately with the No. 1 spot.
2. Golden State Warriors
The Golden State Warriors have a legitimate problem: They need to figure out if their “death lineup” contains Andre Iguodala or DeMarcus Cousins. It’s a very first-world problem, admittedly, as evidenced by the fact that they’re still in the No. 2 spot in our rankings. But it’s something Golden State needs to figure out before the playoffs—especially in clutch situations.
3. Toronto Raptors
Kawhi Leonard is still missing games here and there for load management, but that’s how good this team is. Even without him on the floor, the Raptors have found ways to win and remain in the No. 2 spot in the Eastern Conference. Going forward, it will be interesting to see if Toronto makes an all-out push for home-court advantage and the No. 1 seed. Chances are, that won’t be the case. Toronto has been the No. 1 seed before and watched it all be for naught. This time around, being healthy and rested should take priority.

4. Denver Nuggets
The Denver Nuggets had an uncharacteristic three-game losing streak recently, but they’ve bounced back nicely with five straight. They are currently four full games ahead of the Oklahoma City Thunder for the No. 2 seed in the brutally tough Western Conference. And unlike the Raptors, you can bet this team is going to go all out in its pursuit for the top seed—a spot they are just one game out of entering Wednesday night’s slate.
5. Oklahoma City Thunder
Paul George is on a mission. He’s not going to take home MVP considering how James Harden and Giannis Antetokounmpo are playing this season, but he’s the consensus No. 3 player and he’s out to prove he made the right choice re-signing with OKC. Although MVP is pretty much out of the question, DPOY is very much up for grabs. And if he keeps playing at a level where he is legitimately a top-three vote-getter in each category, the Thunder are going to continue riding his momentum.
6. Portland Trail Blazers
The Portland Trail Blazers are riding a hot streak, and quite frankly, they’ve earned this spot in the rankings since the acquisition of Enes Kanter and Rodney Hood. But they’re also a team to keep an eye on. Is this hot streak fool’s gold? History says it might be. But for now, we give credit where it’s due.
7. Houston Rockets
The Houston Rockets are responsible for a career renaissance as far as Kenneth Faried is concerned. He and the Rockets are playing some of their best basketball, and now Clint Capela is back on top of all that. The Rockets started out this season vastly disappointing anyone who thought they could challenge the Golden State Warriors for a Western Conference title, but they’re looking more and more like the contenders we thought they’d be.
8. Indiana Pacers
What the Indiana Pacers are doing is pretty unbelievable. Nobody expected them to be a top-four team out East this season. Nobody thought they’d maintain that status following the season-ending injury to Victor Oladipo. And yet, here they are, as the No. 3 team with a full game lead over the Philadelphia 76ers. Like the Trail Blazers above, this is a team we have to keep an eye on, as their dream season could come crashing down if the role players stepping up start to slip.
9. Philadelphia 76ers
Philly sits a full game back from Indy, but this team has a strong chance of moving up once Joel Embiid returns. The Sixers, when healthy, have a Big 4 in Embiid, Ben Simmons, Jimmy Butler and Tobias Harris that no other team in the conference can match talent-wise.

10. Utah Jazz
The Utah Jazz are better than they get credit for. No, they don’t play a flashy brand of basketball, and yes, they’ve underwhelmed a bit this year, including the slow start from sophomore Donovan Mitchell. But this team is built for the postseason, and we should star to see that now more than ever during the final post-All-Star stretch.
