WHERE DO TEAMS STAND IN MLB?
Looking for some early 2016 MLB power rankings? Two more weeks have passed in Major League Baseball – with the warming temperatures has come the ascension of some struggling teams that have finally found their form.
Version 4.0 – 2016 MLB Power Rankings
We have also seen a rash of potentially season changing injuries the last couple of weeks – it should be interesting to see how the Giants and the Mets navigate the loss of some key guys.
Four of the top 5 teams from the last edition of the Power Rankings remain the same with Texas parachuting into the top 5 on the heels of a great couple of weeks.
So where does your team eight weeks or so games into the Regular season. Let’s break it down in the June 6 edition of Dave B’s MLB Power Rankings.
1. Chicago Cubs
(39-16) Two Weeks Ago: 1
No surprise here – the Cubs are still the best team in the Bigs. Jake Arietta actually lost yesterday! That’s said the Cubs are 8-2 in their last 10 games and enter the week win an incredible +141 run differential on the year.

With an insane offense and an enviable pitching staff there is no reason to fathom a drop-off for this team.
2. Texas Rangers
(34-22) Two Weeks Ago: 10
The Rangers are another team that has gone 8-2 in their last 10 games overall – they now have the best record in the AL. Their starting staff was good but the return of Yu Darvish has made them scary.
The offense has been a terrific compliment.
3. San Francisco Giants
(35-24) Two Weeks Ago: 4
The Giants have cooled a bit – 5-5 in their last 10 games overall. They have lost two straight heading into the week. Still, there is no team that has been better the last month to get to the top of their division.
Injuries may send the Giants down the Rankings however – Hunter Pence is gone possibly for the year which is a huge blow.
4. Washington Nationals
(34-23)
Two Weeks Ago: 3
The Nats almost got swept by the lowly Reds on the weekend but managed a win on Sunday. They are 6-4 in their last 10 games and look every bit a contender in the NL.

Daniel Murphy has been sensational and the lineup is solid from top-to-bottom.
5. Boston Red Sox
(33-24) Two Weeks Ago: 2
The Red Sox have endured a rather tough couple of weeks – they were largely shut down over the weekend by the Blue Jays. Still, this team has a historically good offense right now – and we all saw what an offense can do for a team with the Blue Jays of 2015.
If David Price can ever find his form the Sox are a serious threat in the AL – he needs to be special.
6. Baltimore Orioles
(32-23) Two Weeks Ago: 5
The Orioles took 3 of 4 from the Yankees over the weekend and are 6-4 in their last 10 games overall. If the bats keep hitting for power like they have Baltimore should remain a top 10 team – how about Mark Trumbo?
7. Cleveland Indians
(31-24) Two Weeks Ago: 12
The Indians lead the tough AL Central and enter the week on a terrific five game win streak – thanks in part to a 4-game sweep of the Royals over the weekend.
They own the third best run differential in the AL (+46) and have one of the breakout players of the year suiting it up for them – Jose Ramirez.
8. Los Angeles Dodgers
(31-27) Two Weeks Ago: 15
LA lost three of four last week to the Cubs – no shame in that but bounced back by sweeping the Braves on the road over the weekend. Any team with Clayton Kershaw is a contender and the offense has been good thanks to Corey Seagar who has been terrific.
9. New York Mets
(31-24) Two Weeks Ago: 7
With injuries to Lucas Duda, Travis d’Arnaud and David Wright the Mets lose some ground this week. They have gone 5-5 in their last 10 games however which keeps them in the top 10.
The pitching staff should keep them in the race – even Matt Harvey seems to have snapped out of his funk.
10. Seattle Mariners
(31-25) Two Weeks Ago: 6
The Mariners barely hold on to a top 10 spot – they are just 3-7 in their last 10 games and enter this week having being swept by division rival Texas over the weekend. They are still 2nd in the AL in run differential – 5th in MLB but the pitching has been a tad suspect.
My guess is that the arms turn themselves around and the offense keeps Seattle a top 10 club.
11. Toronto Blue Jays
(31-27) Two Weeks Ago: 17
The Jays have been on fire – they have gone 12-4 in their last 16 games and loom in the very good AL East.
[dfads params=’groups=213&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
The offense has finally woken up and the starting staff continues to be one of the better ones in the game to everyone’s surprise – an AL second best 3.52 ERA so far.
Toronto is a dangerous squad – expect to see them in the top 10 sooner than later.
12. St. Louis Cardinals
(30-27) Two Weeks Ago: 11
The Cards have gone 6-4 in their last 10 games including a series win against the Giants and the Brewers and have won two straight ahead of this week.
Jhony Peralta should return from the DL this week which only makes this team better.
13. Pittsburgh Pirates (30-26) Two Weeks Ago: 9
14. Kansas City Royals (30-26) Two Weeks Ago: 13
15. Chicago White Sox (29-28) Two Weeks Ago: 8
16. Detroit Tigers (28-28) Two Weeks Ago: 19
17. Miami Marlins (30-27) Two Weeks Ago: 18
18. Houston Astros (28-30) Two Weeks Ago: 25
19. Philadelphia Phillies (28-29) Two Weeks Ago: 14
20. Los Angeles Angels (26-30) Two Weeks Ago: 23
21. New York Yankees (26-30) Two Weeks Ago: 20
22. Tampa Bay Rays (25-30) Two Weeks Ago: 16
23. Colorado Rockies (24-31) Two Weeks Ago: 21
24. Milwaukee Brewers (26-31) Two Weeks Ago: 28
25. Arizona Diamondbacks (25-34) Two Weeks Ago: 22
26. Oakland Athletics (25-32) Two Weeks Ago: 24
27. San Diego Padres (26-31) Two Weeks Ago: 27
28. Cincinnati Reds (21-36) Two Weeks Ago: 28
29. Atlanta Braves (16-40) Two Weeks Ago: 29
30. Minnesota Twins (16-40) Two Weeks Ago: 30
