WHERE DO TEAMS STAND IN MLB?
Looking for some early 2016 MLB power rankings? We are about 30 games into the 2016 MLB season for most teams – there is a pretty clear picture of what we have in regards to all of the races in baseball. To nobody’s surprise the Cubs are by far the best team in the league.
Version 2.0 – 2016 MLB Power Rankings
It is a bit of a shock however to see the White Sox playing well (it’s a good time to be a Chicago baseball fan!!!) and the Red Sox and Mariners playing up to their potential as well. Simply put, the cream is already starting to rise to the top in this MLB season.
So where does your team sit 30 or so games into the Regular season. Let’s break it down in the May 10 edition of Dave B’s MLB Power Rankings.
1. Chicago Cubs
(24-6) Two Weeks Ago: 1
After sweeping the Nationals over the weekend there is zero doubting who the best team in MLB is. Truth be told, it’s not even close – they enter the week on a seven game win streak and their run differential doesn’t seem fair- 102.

The offense is terrific and the pitching (Jake Arrieta specifically) is at a different level right now.
2. Chicago White Sox
(23-10) Two Weeks Ago: 5
The best team in the AL gets the nod at #2 this week – what’s in the Chicago water? The Sox can thank their stellar pitching so far this season for their record although the offense has been decent as well. Six wins against the lowly Twins certainly helps.
3. New York Mets
(20-11) Two Weeks Ago: 18
The Mets have won three straight games and sit atop the NL East. An unlikely hero is emerging for the team – Bartolo Colon hit his first home run on the weekend and has a 2.86 ERA so far. We knew the Mets would be a contender – expect them to be near the top all season long.
4. Washington Nationals
(20-12) Two Weeks Ago: 2
The Nats will be licking their wounds after failing to win a game against the Cubs this past weekend but with perhaps the best player in baseball – Bryce Harper on the roster you have to think Washington will contend – that is unless the opposition walks Mr. Harper every time he head to the plate!
5. Boston Red Sox
(19-13) Two Weeks Ago: 8
Despite David Price’s early season struggles the Sox are playing some good ball. They beat the White Sox last week and although they had trouble with the Yanks over the weekend Boston has been one of the surprises of the AL so far.

How about David Ortiz?
6. Seattle Mariners
(19-13) Two Weeks Ago: 22
The Mariners are another team with a struggling ace – Felix Hernandez has yet to find his form and once he does the Mariners will be very, very good. The other starters have been good and Robinson Cano has been off-the-charts the last couple of weeks. Seattle just may be reaching the potential they had last year at this time.
7. Baltimore Orioles
(18-12) Two Weeks Ago: 3
The Orioles have fallen off a tad but they are still playing some good ball. They enter the week on a two game winning streak and still lead the AL East. I’m still expecting a drop-off but it hasn’t happened yet.
8. Toronto Blue Jays
(17-17) Two Weeks Ago: 16
Have won five of their last seven games to get to .500 and some of the struggling bats are starting to come alive. The starting pitching has been very good so far – if the bullpen which has a MLB worst 10 losses already ever gets straightened around the Jays could be a top 5 team.
9. Miami Marlins
(17-14) Two Weeks Ago: 27
The Marlins have gone 7-3 in their last 10 games and were 11-1 before struggling on the weekend against the Phillies. Hey – they’re not the only team to struggle against the Phillies this year! Christian Yelich, Marcell Ozuna and Giancarlo Stanton make up one of the most impressive outfields in the game right now which has helped this team overachieve.
10. Pittsburgh Pirates
(17-15) Two Weeks Ago: 14
The Pirate have some work to do if they want to be in the conversation with division foes – he Cubs. The Pirates have gone 4-6 in their last 10 games overall and will need Gerrit Cole to be the ace that many had envisioned.
11. Texas Rangers
(18-15) Two Weeks Ago: 10
The Rangers have gone just 5-5 in their last 10 games despite Prince Fielder’s struggles and the fact that Yu Darvish and Shin-Soo Choo are still injured.

Once healthy Texas should be a major threat to Seattle in what should be a fun AL West chase.
12. Los Angeles Dodgers
(16-16) Two Weeks Ago: 7
The Dodgers took two of three from Toronto this past weekend and got some patented good pitching along the way. Clayton Kershaw is an absolute beast and 3B Justin Turner has added a power element that this team has been sadly lacking.
13. St. Louis Cardinals (16-16) Two Weeks Ago: 9
14. Philadelphia Phillies (18-14) Two Weeks Ago: 17
15. Cleveland Indians (15-14) Two Weeks Ago: 13
16. San Francisco Giants (17-17) Two Weeks Ago: 11
17. Tampa Bay Rays (15-15) Two Weeks Ago: 26
18. Kansas City Royals (15-16) Two Weeks Ago: 4
19. Colorado Rockies (15-17) Two Weeks Ago: 12
20. Detroit Tigers (14-17) Two Weeks Ago: 6
21. Arizona Diamondbacks (16-18) Two Weeks Ago: 24
22. Los Angeles Angels (13-28) Two Weeks Ago: 20
23. Oakland Athletics (14-19) Two Weeks Ago: 25
24. Houston Astros (13-20) Two Weeks Ago: 23
25. San Diego Padres (13-19) Two Weeks Ago: 28
26. New York Yankees (12-18) Two Weeks Ago: 21
27. Cincinnati Reds (14-19) Two Weeks Ago: 15
28. Milwaukee Brewers (13-19) Two Weeks Ago: 19
29. Minnesota Twins (8-23) Two Weeks Ago: 29
30. Atlanta Braves (7-23) Two Weeks Ago: 30
