The College Football Playoff picture always looks clear at this point, with a handful of teams standing out from the pack, so let’s take a look at how some of the top programs in the country shake out.
2018 College Football Playoffs Futures: Alabama Crimson Tide: 2/1
While it’s wise to never throw around the word “lock” when it comes to sports betting, there are few things in life as certain as Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide making the College Football Playoff each year.
The Tide are the clear favorites to repeat as national champions, and it would be tough to argue against that statement.

While Saban’s made some comments about the team’s depth, this is a squad that will bench a former SEC Offensive Player of the Year with a 26-2 record as a starter in favour of a player likely to finish the year as a Heisman finalist in Tua Tagovailoa.
With one of the softest schedules we’ve seen for Alabama in recent years, it’s tough to imagine a scenario in which the Tide aren’t in the top-4 nationally come December.
2018 College Football Playoffs Futures: Clemson Tigers: 9/2
The Tigers have been to three consecutive Playoffs, and Dabo Swinney will be fielding a team that has the potential to be more talented than any of those three squads.

Considering the talent gap in the ACC and what that means for Clemson’s chances throughout the regular season, it seems very likely we’ll reach the end of the regular season with Alabama and Clemson at 1-2 in the national rankings, in position to square off in the title game for the third time in four years.
2018 College Football Playoffs Futures: Ohio State Buckeyes: 13/2
While their odds may not reflect it, there’s a lot of uncertainty around the Buckeye football program entering this season.
Aside from the Urban Meyer scandal that will keep the coach off the sideline for the first three weeks, the team has some big question marks at quarterback, with little experience to speak of at the position.
2018 College Football Playoffs Futures: Georgia Bulldogs: 8/1
A lot went right for the Bulldogs in Kirby Smart’s second year at the controls, but year three figures to pose some issues with a slew of top-flight starts leaving for the pros, opening up some holes on the defensive side of the ball.
2018 College Football Playoffs Futures: Michigan Wolverines: 12/1
The presence of Jim Harbaugh and the attention he brings to the table puts Michigan in a situation in which its betting odds will never be truly reflective of its current state given the influx of public money that will come in on the Wolverines.

The team’s struggled against the other elite Big Ten schools during his tenure, and they certainly won’t be facing an easy schedule this season.
More 2018 College Football Playoffs Futures:
Wisconsin Badgers: 20/1
Wisconsin seemed destined for bigger things a year ago before those hopes were dashed in a Big Ten title game loss to Ohio State.
The team returns nine starters on offense, including all five starters along the offensive line – with as many as four of those players potential first-round picks come draft time – along with starting quarterback Alex Hornibrook and standout rusher Jonathan Taylor, so there’s a real chance for this squad to come out of the gate hot.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish: 30/1
The Irish will live and die this season by the performance of quarterback Brandon Wimbush, who has the potential to either become a Heisman finalist, or flame out completely – that’s how wide the expectation gap is on this second-year starter.
As usual, there are some very notable dates on Notre Dame’s schedule, including the opener against Michigan, so the squad has the chance to grab the nation’s attention early.
