2018 NBA Win Totals Odds: Houston Rockets OVER 54.5
It’s going to be popular for a lot of folks to go OVER on the Golden State Warriors’ 62.5 win total projection. After all, they added DeMarcus Cousins to a team that has averaged 66.25 wins over the past four season. But while that may seem like a save bet, they’re going to be without Boogie for up to half the season, and they showed last season they don’t care one iota about earning the No. 1 seed.

The better bet here is OVER on the Houston Rockets’ 54.5. Houston admittedly got worse this summer, but not 11 games worse. They retained Clint Cappella despite losing Luc a Moute and Trevor Ariza, and while Carmelo Anthony may be viewed as a negative addition, this team is still going to be right around 60 wins for the year.
2018 NBA Win Totals Odds: Portland Trail Blazers OVER 41.5
The Portland Trail Blazers—last year’s No. 3 seed out West—will be in a brutal battle for playoff positioning all season. Almost every team in that war got better this offseason by virtue of trade, free agency or health, and the Blazers failed to make headlines beside swinging and missing on DeMarcus Cousins and Kawhi Leonard…not to mention losing bench staples like z Napier and Ed Davis.
But here’s the thing: This could end up being a classic Western Conference season where it takes nearly 50 wins to make the playoffs.

We’re not guaranteeing that Rip City finishes in the top eight seeds next season, but this group is used to playing with a chip on its shoulder, and 45 wins is a more reasonable spot to place this team—whether it gets them into the postseason or not.
2018 NBA Win Totals Odds: Atlanta Hawks UNDER 23.5
The Atlanta Hawks have been given the worst win total projection in the NBA at 23.5. And quite frankly, that number is still being generous.
If Trae Young comes out and looks like Stephen Curry and John Collins makes a huge sophomore leap, they could prove us wrong. But we need to see it before we believe it, as this rebuilding team will be lucky to break 20 wins on the year.
2018 NBA Win Totals Odds: Los Angeles Lakers UNDER 48.5
Never bet against LeBron James. That’s been a rule of thumb for a very long time now.
This, however, is crazy to think that the Lakers are going to have the fourth-best record in the West. Not after missing out on the likes of Paul George, Kawhi Leonard and DeMarcus Cousins—not after finding a misfit crew in Lance Stephenson, Rajon Rondo and Michael Beasley.

The Lakers are going to be largely improved and ready to compete for a title in 2020 if free agency goes their way next summer. But while a playoff run is very likely in the cards this season, having home-court advantage in that process is an ambitious goal.
