With the first set of College Football Playoff Rankings scheduled to be released on Oct. 31, here’s a review of the top 5 teams in contention for the top spot, as well as a couple additional value plays that come in a little further down the list.
2018 College Football Playoffs Futures: Alabama Crimson Tide: 4/5
The Tide have crushed everyone in their path thus far, and that shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. Nick Saban has the program humming like a finely tuned machine, and it’s very difficult to imagine a scenario in which the Tide won’t return to the Playoff.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts has been rock solid, and has been doing more damage with his legs than he did a year ago, which is a nightmare for opposing defensive coordinators
2018 College Football Playoffs Futures: Ohio State Buckeyes: 9/2
Ohio State’s one of the worst values on the board. The Buckeyes haven’t played a particularly tough schedule, and have had trouble being particularly impressive, starting with quarterback J.T. Barrett.

The schedule gets tougher from here on out. The only team currently above .500 Ohio State’s beaten is army. The Buckeyes get Penn State this weekend in the game of the week.
2018 College Football Playoffs Futures: Penn State Nittany Lions: 13/2
As mentioned above, Penn State-Ohio State this weekend is going to have major implications on the Playoff picture, at least as far as the Big Ten is concerned.
The winner of this game is on track to represent the East in the Big Ten title game, where they’re sure to meet Wisconsin in a game that will determine one of the four Playoff spots.
The Nittany Lions made a real statement to the Conference with a dominant victory over Michigan this past weekend. They’ll hope to carry that momentum forward this weekend in Columbus.
2018 College Football Playoffs Futures: Clemson Tigers: 10/1
Clemson may have the best resume thanks to a slew of signature victories this season. The defending champions have played a very strong schedule, which has allowed them to stay in the hunt despite that ugly loss to Syracuse.
Quarterback Kelly Bryant is expected back this week after he left the Syracuse game due to injury.
The ACC currently belongs to Miami, and while the Hurricanes haven’t been able to build up much of a margin in the majority of their games, they do continue to win. That potential ACC title game clash figures to determine a spot in the Playoff.
2018 College Football Playoffs Futures: Georgia Bulldogs: 10/1
The win over Notre Dame really strengthens Georgia’s case for a spot in the College Football Playoff.

While no conference has sent multiple teams through to the Playoff yet, the Bulldogs are making a strong case to make the SEC the first. More realistically, Georgia is going to need to beat Alabama in the SEC title game to qualify.
More 2018 College Football Playoffs Futures:
Wisconsin Badgers: 25/1
Wisconsin has the softest remaining schedule of any top 10 team.
They don’t have a single top-25 team remaining on their schedule. And their wins have actually gotten a little better, as Florida Atlantic and Northwestern both climbed above .500 to help boost the Badgers’ resume. Wisconsin’s effectively killing time until the Big Ten title game when they’ll play one gamej
Washington Huskies: 40/1
Washington’s had a week off and returns to play back-to-back home games that should be converted into wins without issue. The Huskies will be under the radar before a date at Stanford.
