MLB Predictions & Handicapping Insight
With the Chicago Cubs proving a year ago that history means nothing when it comes to deciding the award, here’s a look at three favorites, three teams from the middle of the pack, and three long shots to win the 2017 World Series.
Chicago Cubs +380
The Cubs enter camp flying high after last season’s drought-snapping win, with a roster that’s largely intact from a year ago. Repeating as champions, however, is a tall order for a team that was pushed to the brink in last year’s Fall Classic.

Cubs fans may have to wait a little while longer for a return to glory.
Cleveland Indians +700
The Indians were predicted by many to get to the World Series last season, and while they did so, it wasn’t done in the way many expected.
The team endured some injuries to its much ballyhooed starting rotation and rode a patchwork lineup all the way to the seventh game of the World Series.
If the starting rotation can stay healthy, and Edwin Encarnacion can provide the kind of pop in the middle of the order the front office is expecting after giving him a rich contract in the offseason, they’ll certainly be a force in the American League once again.
Los Angeles Dodgers +700
The Dodgers weren’t able to make a major splash in the offseason, instead pouring resources back into the same roster they fielded a year ago. But there’s plenty of talent in that group, and a few young stars on the rise.
If Rich Hill can stay healthy, the team could potentially be throwing three or four ace-quality starters at opponents.
The play: Dodgers +700
Washington Nationals +1200
Last season was a strange one for the Nationals. Most notable was a major down season for Bryce Harper, who battled through injuries and couldn’t come close to the numbers he put up in his MVP 2015 season.
He’s expected to be fully healthy, and we could also see the first fully healthy season of Anthony Rendon in recent memory.
San Francisco Giants +1400
The Giants saw their even-year World Series streak halt at three occurrences last season, but that could have been different if their bullpen were a little stronger. The front office went out and addressed that issue by adding Mark Melancon to the fold.
There’s not a lot of depth in the lineup, so they’ll need to avoid injuries to stay in the hunt.
Toronto Blue Jays +3000
The Blue Jays lost a big piece to the puzzle when Encarnacion signed in Cleveland, but there’s still a lot of talent on this club.
Jose Bautista is out to prove something after not receiving the rich contract he’d hoped for in the offseason, but the strength of this team remains its pitching staff.
The play: Blue Jays +3000
Kansas City Royals +8000
The Royals’ lineup still looks a lot like the one that went to back-to-back World Series. There are a lot of battle tested players on this roster, so no one will want to face them come playoff time.
If they’re able to remain in the hunt come July, don’t be surprised if the front office goes out and brings in some reinforcements.
Pittsburgh Pirates +10000
The Pirates didn’t live up to expectations last season, but expect a bounce back from a roster loaded with talent.

The Pirates may have the deepest and most talented outfield in baseball, and Gerrit Cole should return to ace status.
Arizona Diamondbacks +12000
Last year was supposed to be the year the Diamondbacks entered the World Series conversation, but that came to an abrupt halt when A.J. Pollock suffered an injury in spring training that cost him the bulk of the season.
With Pollock healthy, there may be a little post-hype sleeper feel to this team in 2017.
The play: Royals +8000
