There’s a heavyweight tilt going down Friday night as the Washington Capitals travel to Chi Town to take on the Blackhawks.
Each team resides near the top of their respective conferences and this one should be a dandy.
Washington Capitals
The Caps are out to a flying start at 8-3-1 and they’ve been doing it in a bit of an unexpected way. The Caps are loaded with talent up front, but it’s defensively where they’ve shone thus far.
In 12 games the Caps have surrendered just 27 goals which is the second least goals allowed in the NHL at the moment.
The goal scoring has been a little absent early however as the Capitals have scored just 33 goals, but they’re getting it done by winning the close games.
This will be a battle of the goaltenders in all likelihood as Braden Holtby goes head to head with Corey Crawford.
Holtby sports a 6-3-1 record with a 2.19 GAA and .920 SV% and has allowed more than two goals just once in his last five starts.
Chicago Blackhawks
There’s no hotter team in the NHL right now than the Blackhawks, who come into this contest having won seven straight games.
Perhaps that lent to the fact that they’re a slight underdog according to odds makers, as the feeling may be that they’re due for a loss.
While the Blackhawks have been filling the net this season with 49 goals scored in 14 games, their recent 2-1 OT win over the Blues was proof that this team can grind out a tough one when they have to.
Patrick Kane and Artemi Panarin are back to where they were a year ago with 17 and 15 points respectively, but it’s Artem Anisimov who has really been a surprise and is tied for the team lead in points with Kane at 17.
Anisimov is listed as day-to-day with an upper body injury so we’ll have to wait and see if he suits up or not.
Corey Crawford is off to another spectacular start to the season with a sparkling 1.91 GAA and .939 SV% (he did this last year too, so come back in February when he inevitably goes back to being mediocre on a nightly basis), but for the time being he’s one of the most reliable netminders in the league.

Free Washington Capitals vs. Chicago Blackhawks NHL Hockey Prediction:
Two extremely talented groups of players facing off, but I feel that this one will be a bit cagey and lower scoring than most people might think.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Under 5.5 (-101)
They payout on Chicago at +100 is tempting, but this one looks like it could be a tight, low-scoring affair that goes to OT, given the two goaltenders that will be playing.
Tied through regulation and OT, I think this one’s heading to the shootout.
