The next match in Group A at the World Cup in Russia 2018 certainly features the hunter and the hunted.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia ought to be thrilled to be at the tournament, and all delusional optimism aside, it looks like they’ve run their race at this event, following a heavy defeat to the hosts and with Uruguay probably being the best team in the group, and with an Egypt side looking to enter Ballon D’Or finalist Mo Salah back in the fold.
However, Uruguay has to play a lot better than it did during its narrow 1-0 win over the undermanned Egypt squad. All of this equals to what should be a decisive win for the South Americans.
Uruguay
A late header from centre-back Jose Maria Gimenez salvaged Uruguay from a measly point against Egypt, in its first match where the north Africans really battled valiantly.
Although it’s been proven that anything can happen in these games, Uruguay shouldn’t expect as much resistance from the Arabians.

Uruguay’s potential will come closer to being fulfilled if offensive talismans Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani get going. If that duo is playing like they can, they should feature on the scoresheet.
Cavani caught a beautiful ball on the volley in the first match and it took an amazing reaction save from Egypt’s goalkeeper to deny him. Suarez, meanwhile, cut a sulky figure as he didn’t get the service he desired in the first game.
The smart money is on the Paris St-Germain man (Cavani) and the Barcelona star (Suarez) to wake from their slumbers versus a decidedly inferior opponent.
Saudi Arabia
The Middle Eastern contingent played a decent first ten minutes against the Russians in Moscow to kick off the tournament last week, but it quickly went downhill from there.
Saudi Arabia was outclassed in every aspect, and this against a Russian side that – home fans and patriotism notwithstanding – aren’t very good. In losing 5-0, Saudi Arabia left the pitch at the Luzhniki Stadium with its tail between its legs.

To have any hope of salvaging just a point from this game, the Arabians need disciplined defensive organization.
Uruguay not only has the defenders to thwart an attack (the aforementioned Gimenez and Atletico Madrid captain Diego Godin) they have the high-octane firepower to fill the net. Saudi Arabia’s players almost exclusively play in inferior leagues, so the gulf between talent is simply too vast.
To prove the pundits wrong, KSA goalkeeper Yasser Al Mosailem needs to have the game of his life and star attacking winger Fahad Al Muwallad (who at least is on the payroll in La Liga for Levante, since loaned to Al Ittihad in club football) must produce some solo magic.
Free Uruguay vs. Saudi Arabia World Cup Prediction:
This is the biggest mis-match in the Group A opening stage. Egypt becomes more dangerous, even with a hobbled Salah in the mix, and Russia is being underestimated if the first game is anything to go by.
Uruguay is a perennial power on the South American continent along with their neighbors Argentina and Brazil.
Despite the advancing ages of Godin, Suarez, Cavani, ‘keeper Fernando Muslera etc., the Uruguayans are dangerous because they have that desired mix of skill and experience on this global stage.
It looks like Uruguay is going to win by a few goals. I will predict 3-0, but it could also creep up to a four-goal margin.
To avoid a complete shellacking, Saudi Arabian fans must hope the side uses the embarassment against Russia to buoy them to an inspired performance in Rostov-on-Don. Still, I don’t see all the effort and good vibes in the world saving the Saudis in this one.
4* Free World Cup Betting Pick: Uruguay to win
Don’t be surprised if both Suarez and Cavani wind up scoring in this match. Sure, there’s other talent in the side – youngsters like Rodrigo Betancur (Juventus), Nahitan Nandez (Boca Juniors) and Lucas Torreira (Sampdoria) are beyond intriguing – but in World Cups, coaches often lean on the war horses they can trust.
That means Suarez, Cavani and Godin must show why they are worth the big bucks. Expect them to do just that.
