Perhaps the marquee match-up occurs in Group A on the second day of World Cup competition, with world-captivating Mo Salah and his Egyptian side locking horns with the Uruguayans in Yekaterinburg, a large city in the foothills of the Ural Mountains and on the border of European Russia and Siberia.
Everything about this game is captivating (not unlike when squads played in the steamy jungle of Manaus in the last World Cup in Brazil), and the remote location (although the city is more than a million strong) just adds to the mystique.
Egypt
Egypt has a strong side that has won the Africa Cup of Nations, but the headliner in neon lights is doubtlessly Salah.
The Liverpool man lead the Premier League in goals this season with 32, and chipped in with 10 assists as well, feeding other gifted talents on the Liverpool side like Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.
Furthermore, the gifted Egyptian scored 10 times in 12 matches in the Champions League, where his club made the final for the first time in years.

Salah will be a finalist for the Ballon D’Or this season, and surely all eyes will be on him to see what he does in Russia. Yet, the Egypt squad is more than just him. Egypt has some decent representation in the Premier League, one of the world’s elite leagues.
An impressive defensive midfield/central defender presence is established with Ahmed Hegazi (West Bromwich Albion), Mohamed Elneny (Arsenal) and Ahmed Elmohamady (Aston Villa, a top Football League Championship side that narrowly missed out on promotion to the Prem with a playoff loss to Fulham).
Further midfield talent is supplied by Ramadan Sobhi, a regular starter for Stoke City. All of this is to say, the historically-powerful Uruguayans could have a real struggle on their hands on June 15th.
Uruguay
Uruguay, World Cup winners way back in 1950, have a similarly solid side, but the discussion with Argentina’s neighbors always starts with the front-line mesmerizing skill.
The line is led for Uruguay by Paris St-Germain’s Edinson Cavani and Barcelona’s mercurial talent Luis Suarez. If it weren’t for fellow South Americans Neymar Jr. (PSG) and Leo Messi (Barca) this pair would be those legendary team’s elite goal scorers.
Though they aren’t getting younger – both are now 31, getting long in the tooth by soccer standards – Cavani and Suarez are still world-class attackers. The Egyptian defense will be hard-pressed to contain the duo.

Elsewhere, Uruguay is known for its strength in central defense. A pair of Atletico Madrid defenders in Diego Godin and Jose Maria Gimenez are world class, they are buttressed by Martin Caceres (Lazio), Max Pereira (Porto), and Sebastian Coates (Sporting CP).
Overall, a strong attack and stout central defense is a good formula for success in world football. Consequently, most are picking Uruguay as a squad to come out of Group A.
The goalkeeping will likely be handled capably by the talented but ageing Fernando Muslera, who plays for Turkish power Galatasaray.
Free Egypt vs. Uruguay World Cup Prediction:
There could be some silky dribbling on offer from both sides in this tilt in the Urals. With Salah, Sobhi, Cavani and Suarez, there are some top-tier talents to entice and inspire.
In the 2017-2018 calendar year, Mo Salah has shown the ability to single-handedly take over a game; if this gets showcased once again, Egypt could come away victorious.
Yet, Uruguay has the better squad on paper. Uruguay has more depth – we haven’t yet mentioned Vecino (Inter Milan), Valverde (Real Madrid) or Betancur (Juventus) in midfield – and it certainly wouldn’t be the first time Cavani or Suarez wrote the narrative for club and country.
As much as I’d like to see Salah completely dominate this game, the smart money in on Uruguay to squeak out a win.
4* Free World Cup Betting Pick: Uruguay to win
With as much technique and skill as is on offer in this match, I see some goals on the horizon. It would be surprising if both clubs don’t get on the board, even in the World Cup when things notoriously tighten up.
With the caveat that anything is on the table here, Uruguay is perennially one of the better squads in the soccer-mad South American continent.
There’s no doubt that Egypt is on the up-and-up, but conventional wisdom dictates too strongly that Uruguay should prevail in this tasty Group A match.
