The winner here will get a lot of birdies – the victor will HAVE to go low. With that in mind who should we be keeping an extra eye on this week?
Let’s break it down.
2016 CIMB Classic Favorites:
Paul Casey +900
Has gone 2nd-2nd-4th-T3 – all that is missing is a win. His T3 at the Safeway Open last week included four rounds in the 60s. In fact his scoring average over his last four starts is 68.5 – incredible.
His game is hitting greens – he was second on TOUR last season in that stat and he was seventh in strokes gained. Casey was T24 in this event last year and based on current form is almost a lock to better that this week.
Hideki Matsuyama +1000
Enters off a terrific three stroke win at the Japan Open Golf Championship which followed a fifth in the TOUR Championship and two other top 25s in the FedEx Cup Playoff.
Matsuyama is in the best form we’ve seen him in a while and arrives full of confidence. He finished fifth in his last start on this track and is an intriguing entry this week.
Patrick Reed +1000
Ryder Cup superstar will try to better a T10 in this event last year. He played well down the stretch last season and should be in the mix in this smallish field.

Reed is arguably the most confident guy on TOUR right now – expect a good finish.
2016 CIMB Classic Contenders:
Adam Scott +1100
Played well all of last season but turned it on during the FedEx Cup Playoff – four top 10 finishes in the four events. He did, however, miss the cut somehow last week in Japan.
Still, Scott proved that he is back to his former self and ready to better a second place finish in this event last year.
Justin Thomas +1400
Defending champion enters off a T8 at Silverado and a respectable T6 at East Lake a month ago.
He obviously loves this track as evidenced by the 61 he shot here last year – chances are he does well and gets his third straight top 10 finish in TOUR this week.
Ryan Moore +1400
Two-time winner here finished T10 last year. He played well at the Ryder Cup and finished T2 at East Lake in his starts before that – obviously great form ahead of this week.
He has eaten up this track in his three starts and with the confidence he’s displayed the last six weeks, nobody would be shocked to see him victorious again.
Kevin Na +1800
Is one guy that brings his best during the fall portion of the schedule. He enters off a seventh place finish at the Safeway Open last week and has posted a T2 and T3 in two starts on this track with a scoring average of 67.25.
He hit a ton of greens last week at Silverado and will be a force again this week if he can replicate that stat.
Gary Woodland +2200
Two-time runner-up in this race stumbled to a T56 in last year’s edition.
He had four consecutive top 25s (T4-T15-T24-T10) in the FedEx Cup playoffs and returns to arguably his favorite course this week.
Kevin Chappell +2800
Chappell is on the radar thanks to his playoff loss in the Tour Championship – his second top 10 during the FedEx Cup Playoff.
[dfads params=’groups=247&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
He’s been inside the top 30 in all three appearances on this track.
Chappell is a nice sleeper this week – don’t know about the +2800.
2016 CIMB Classic Sleepers (+5000 or higher):
Ryo Ishikawa +5500
Has been terrific lately during his play in Japan that produced a string of four straight top 10s – a Win-T2-3rd-T7. It’s been a while since Ishikawa played in a PGA event but his current form is definitely something to keep an eye on this week.
Tony Finau +5500
Has four top 30 finishes in his last five events played and was decent before faltering on the weekend at the Safeway Open.
His stats across the board are strong – 3rd in Driving Distance and decent GIR stats. He finished T9 in this event last year and looks is due for a breakthrough this week.
2016 CIMB Classic Picks:
Gotta go Ryan Moore at +1400 here. He has won two of the last three editions of this tournament and his end of season streak that included a confidence-inspiring Ryder Cup win is just too hard to ignore.
Mt sleeper is Ryo Ishikawa at +5500. He has been on fire in Japan – hopes are that his success carries over to Malaysia this week.
