New head coach of the Orlando Magic, Frank Vogel, made a promise to fans during a preseason open practice that this group would be back in the playoffs this year. That seemed ambitious then, and nothing’s changed thus far.
The Oklahoma City Thunder, on the other hand, have exceeded expectations following the departure of Kevin Durant.
These two face off in OKC Sunday night.
Orlando Magic
Orlando opened up the 2016-17 NBA season with three straight losses. After that, it went on to collect three straight wins.
After hitting .500, Orlando has once against lost its last three.
If the series of three continues, the Magic are in store for a strong win against OKC. But we’re not here to evaluate superstition, which is going to make things a little less optimistic for this Orlando squad.

Against OKC, Orlando must score the basketball. That may sound like the ‘duh’ statement of the year, but the Magic are dead last in scoring in the NBA at this juncture.
Coming into the contest, Orlando is averaging just 92.3 points per contest. How bad is that? We mentioned it’s dead last, but consider this:
The distance between Orlando (30th) and Miami (29th) is 3.1 points. The distance between Orlando and Utah (24) is just 1.1 points per game.

Defensively, the Magic have been stronger. This shouldn’t be a surprise with the roster it has in place — including former Thunder forward Serge Ibaka.
On the year, Orlando is giving up 102.7 points per contest, which is good enough for 13th in the Association.
Oklahoma City Thunder
Scoring hasn’t been as big a problem for OKC as it has for Orlando, but this team is far from elite. In fact, it’s pushing being in the bottom 10.
At this point in the season, the Thunder are just 18th in scoring, averaging 103.2 points per contest.
The reason for this is because Russell Westbrook has yet to find consistent help. He’s a scoring machine (not to mention a stat-sheet stuffer) accumulating better than 30 points per contest, but Victor Oladipo is next in line at 16.2 and Enes Kanter follows at 12.0.

Getting the role players to step up in the scoring department is what’s going to make its early success more sustainable.
OKC started the year 6-1 (shockingly for those who have this group fighting for a playoff spot by the end of the year), but it’s dropped two straight entering this contest against the Toronto Raptors and Los Angeles Clippers — two teams that have more claim to “elite” status than the Thunder at this point in the process.

Free Orlando Magic vs. Oklahoma City Thunder NBA Prediction: OKC ATS
The Magic’s defense is what’s going to keep this contest close for a while, but it’s their offense that is going to decide the outcome.
If Orlando can score with ease, OKC is going to be in trouble.
Just don’t expect that to be the outcome that comes to fruition.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: OKC ATS
This one should go to the Thunder, who are looking for their first win in three outings.
