The Jets look to keep their (very) slim playoff hopes alive on Tuesday night when they square off with the Devils in New Jersey. The Jets are in the midst of a three-game road trip and points are at a premium.
The Devils are winless in their last 10 games and have all but played themselves out of the playoff chase.
Winnipeg Jets
The Jets were always going to be up against it in the Central Division this year.
Arguably one of the toughest divisions to crack into the top three with the likes of Chicago, Minnesota, St. Louis and Nashville all as perennial contenders, the Jets’ best hope was to win games against the bottom half of the Western Conference and try to slide into a wildcard spot.
That hasn’t really been the case this year as the Jets have struggled to maintain any measure of consistency, regardless of who they’re playing.
The Jets entered Monday’s game against the Predators riding a three-game losing streak and are fading fast in the West, as the eighth seeded St. Louis Blues are nine points up with a pair of games in hand.
Consistency, as mentioned, has plagued this team as the Jets have won three consecutive contests just once this season, and have lost three or more straight on a number of occasions.
The Jets need to put together a strong finish and win at least eight of their final 12 games if they’re going to have any hope of sneaking into the playoffs.
New Jersey Devils
The Devils haven’t been in the playoff picture at all really this season, but they’re way out of it now.
Losing 10 straight games and earning just two points in OT losses over that stretch has plunged New Jersey to the bottom of the Eastern Conference.
With just 14 games left to play and 14 points out of eighth place, it would take a minor miracle for New Jersey to be playing hockey beyond game 82. What makes this team interesting however, is that teams like this are usually a nice play when it comes to betting.
The Devils are all but eliminated and should be playing loose down the stretch as they’ll be looking to take on the spoiler role.
This team does have a few nice pieces with the likes of Taylor Hall, Adam Henrique, and Kyle Pamieri.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Jets are 0-8 in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a losing home record.
- Under is 8-0-1 in the last 9 meetings.
- Devils are 0-6 in their last 6 games playing on 2 days rest.
- Final score has been 3-1 in 3 of last 4 meetings between the two
- Jets won 3-2 in Winnipeg earlier this year
- Winnipeg has won 3 of the last 4 meetings
Free Ottawa Senators vs. San Jose Sharks NHL Hockey Prediction:
Corey Schneider has had an off year in goal, but with the pressure all but off, look for the Devils netminder to put some strong starts together down the stretch.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Under 5.5
The Devils have not been very good defensively of late, but playing a Jets team coming off back to back games with travel looks like a game that is destined to be low-scoring.
