The Capitals fought back their way, scraping out an OT win in game 3 to essentially save their series lives. They will need another critical win on the road to even the series, or will face a do-or-die situation for the remainder.
Washington Capitals
The Caps have life again in the series thanks to an OT winner from Kevin Shattenkirk in game 3.
Shattenkirk was acquired near the deadline to provide some additional offense and a powerplay QB from the blueline, and he did just that in netting the important winner on Sunday to help Washington back into the mix.

Nicklas Backstrom leads the team in scoring through 9 playoff games, with 4 goals and 10 points.
He and line mate, TJ Oshie, have been the two most dangerous Capitals players thus far and will need to continue to produce with Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Marcus Johansson all sitting well below a point per game.
Braden Holtby hasn’t been bad, but he hasn’t been reproducing his Vezina worthy regular season numbers either.
Holtby has a 2.54 GAA and a .914 SV% this postseason, numbers which he’ll certainly need to improve if he’s to help his team come back from trailing in the series.
Pittsburgh Penguins
The Penguins superstar captain, Sidney Crosby, left game 3 due to injury and did not return.
The heart-and-soul of the Pens’ status is in doubt for the remainder of both this series and the playoffs. Sid has 11 points in 8 games played before his exit, which is a major blow to the Cup favorites.
Evgeni Malkin has been the best forward in the playoffs to date, registering an NHL best 15 points in 8 games, ahead of the next best, his teammate Phil Kessel, by three points. Crosby and Jake Guentzel round out the top four point getters, all four being Penguins’ forwards.

Marc-Andre Fleury has been excelling in the playoffs since Matt Murray was lost to injury in warm-ups before their first playoff game.
Fleury is positioning himself nicely for another starting gig elsewhere next year, carrying a .933 SV% through 8 games.

Free Washington Capitals vs. Pittsburgh Penguins NHL Playoff Prediction:
The loss of Sidney Crosby is very significant, and his importance to his team cannot be understated.
However, I do think that the Penguins have enough firepower to produce enough in his absence to net a win.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Pittsburgh +105
Evgeni Malkin will now be the focal point, but with Phil Kessel as a secondary option and the likes of Guentzel and Sheary chipping in, I think the Pens rally in honor of their captain.
