Vancouver
With 46 points, the Vancouver Canucks find themselves outside of the playoff picture with the All-Star break right around the corner.
Vancouver has had tough luck this year with a combined 10 losses in overtime or a shootout.
The Canucks, as usual, are led by brothers Henrik and Daniel Sedin, who have combined for 77 points this year.
[dfads params=’groups=226&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
Other than the Sedin twins, the Canucks’ offense has been awful. Vancouver’s 2.34 GPG is 25th in the NHL, and the team is just 22nd on the power play.
The Canucks have also struggled to string wins together this season, alternating wins and losses in each of their last nine games.
Vancouver comes into this game off a 3-2 win against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Ryan Miller is expected to get the start in this contest. He comes in with a record of 10-12-6, a 2.75 GAA and a save percentage of .910.
It’s been a down year overall for the Canucks, and they’ll have to be at the top of their game if they want to beat one of the Eastern Conference’s finest teams.
New York
After two ugly losses where they were outscored 8-1, the New York Islanders bounced back with two straight wins, outscoring their opponents 8-1.
The Islanders are 2nd place in the Metropolitan Division, but they’re still 16 points behind 1st-place Washington. New York has played solid hockey this year, especially at home where the team is 15-7-2.
[dfads params=’groups=235&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
The Islanders have been absolutely dominant at home versus Western Conference opponents this season as well.
New York is currently 9-0-1 at home vs. the West, a stat that does not bode well for the struggling Canucks. Led by Kyle Okposo and John Tavares, the Islanders are scoring 2.7 GPG which ranks 11th in the NHL.
The defense has been just as stout, allowing 2.45 GPG which is 10th in the NHL.
Jaroslav Halak is expected to start between the pipes on Sunday. His record is 11-8-3 and he has a GAA of 2.17 and a save percentage of .923.
