Coming off a 4-0 shutout loss to the Penguins, the Vancouver Canucks will head to St. Louis to try and find a way to win against a Blues team that has looked great since making a coaching change.
St. Louis, winners of four straight, have looked like a much more confident team since firing Ken Hitchcock and promoting Mike Yeo to a position he was set to get in a few months anyway.
Vancouver Canucks
The Canucks have been a mediocre team all season and it doesn’t look like anything is going to change during these last couple months of the season. Vancouver is one of the worst teams in the NHL when it comes to scoring goals.
The Canucks have scored just 135 goals all year, putting the team 26th in the league in that category. The team has six players with double-digits in goals, but no player has 20 or more. The top scorer on the team is Bo Horvat, who has 17 goals and 21 assists.

Horvat, in his last five games, has three goals and three assists for Vancouver. He’s been the most consistent player for Vancouver, but his solid play alone can’t win games.
The goaltending has been pretty poor all season, which has resulted in a lot of goals against. Ryan Miller is 15-16-3 with a 2.65 GAA and Jacob Markstrom is 10-10-3 with a 2.57 GAA.
The defense and goaltending have combined to give up 164 goals on the season.
St. Louis Blues
Since Mike Yeo took over as head coach, the St. Louis Blues are 5-1-0 and are looking like a much more inspired hockey team. The team has won four straight games and is solidifying its position in 3rd place in the Central Division.
The Blues have given up just three goals total over the last four games, including two shutout performances against the Flyers and Senators. This is a different Blues team than the one that was under Ken Hitchcock for most of the year.
The one negative coming out of the last couple of weeks is the injury to center Paul Stastny. The veteran is out indefinitely with a lower-body injury and that hurts the Blues.
[dfads params=’groups=234&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
He has 15 goals and 20 assists on the season, including three goals and three assists over his last five games.
With Statsny out, even more of the offense falls on right wing Vladimir Tarasenko. He has 26 goals and 27 assists on the year. Over his last five games, he has three goals.
NHL Betting Trends:
- The UNDER is 3-2 in Vancouver’s last five games
- St. Louis is 5-1 ATS in the last six games
Free Vancouver Canucks vs. St. Louis Blues NHL Hockey Prediction:
St. Louis has been playing some great hockey since the coaching change. Meanwhile, Vancouver has lost six of the last eight games. St. Louis is the better team here and it should show in this game. The Blues get the W at home.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: OVER 5.5
The St. Louis goaltending has been suspect for most of the season and Vancouver’s hasn’t been much better. This game should have quite a few goals.
