With two straight losses, it’s clear the Maple Leafs still haven’t fully figured things out yet. The team will look to get back to its winning ways against St. Louis.
The Blues, dealing with some front office and coaching drama, will try to keep things together and find a way to win again after slipping out of the top 3 in the Central Division.
Toronto Maple Leafs
The young nucleus of this Maple Leafs team is an absolute delight to watch. The Leafs suit up six rookies, all of whom rank in the top 20 in rookie points for this season.
However, it’s clear that this Toronto team doesn’t have it all figured out yet and the young guys, at times, struggle on the defensive end. The Leafs are coming off a poor 6-3 loss to the Dallas Stars, a team that shouldn’t be scoring six goals on anyone.

It’s hit or miss for the defense that has had some solid performances, including two straight 4-0 shutouts over the Calgary Flames and Detroit Red Wings.
Offensively, the team is fantastic. Led by #1 draft pick Auston Matthews, the Leafs can score and score a lot. Matthews has 23 goals and leads the team. He also has 16 assists. In his last five games, he has a pair of goals.
Fellow rookie Mitch Marner leads the team in points with 41. He has 12 goals and 29 assists on the year.
St. Louis Blues
St. Louis has lost five of the last six games and is in a slump that has seen the team drop out of the top three teams in the Central Division.
As a result, coach Ken Hitchcock was relieved of his duties on Wednesday and incumbent head coach Mike Yeo has taken over the team earlier than planned.
You never know how a team is going to respond to a chance like this, especially when the change is letting go of Hitchcock, the coach for the Blues since 2011.

Despite the drama, St. Louis has a season to finish and it starts with finding a way to shut down Toronto. Unfortunately, Toronto’s strong suit is its offense and the Blues have a really poor defense. St. Louis gives up 3.1 goals per game, putting it 3rd worst in the NHL.
This means the Blues will definitely need some offensive support to win this game. Vladimir Tarasenko will be called upon a lot in this game, as he is every night. He leads the team in points (49), goals (22), and assists (27).
NHL Betting Trends:
- The UNDER is 4-1 in Toronto’s last five games
- The OVER is 4-1 in St. Louis’ last five games
Free Toronto Maple Leafs vs. St. Louis Blues NHL Hockey Prediction:
St. Louis continues to have a great home record. The Blues have been tough to beat in their own arena all year and I think this trend will continue, especially with Toronto losing Jamie Benn. Blues get the W.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Toronto ML
St. Louis is dealing with a coaching chance and hasn’t played well over the last month. Toronto has the immediate advantage in this game. I like the Toronto money line here.
