Toronto, coming off a loss to San Jose, continue its West Coast road trip against the Los Angeles Kings in the Staples Center.
Los Angeles, with overtime losses in each of the last two games, will look to bounce back and take care of one of the most aggressive, young offenses in the National Hockey League.
Toronto Maple Leafs
For most of the year, Toronto has been one of the most fun teams to watch, but not really good enough to be a serious competitor come playoff time. The Maple Leafs are absurdly talented on the offensive end, due in big part to the rookies that have been scoring so much, but the defense and goaltending have left a lot to be desired.
The Leafs haven’t been able to win consistently because of how many goals they give up. Toronto has given up 185 goals this season, 25th in the NHL, and opponents are averaging about three goals per game against them.

The offense has been another story, though. Led by rookie Auston Matthews, the Maple Leafs often score at will and have an aggressive forecheck that overwhelms opponents. Matthews leads the team with 31 goals, and also has 24 assists. In his last five games, he has four goals and three assists.
Fellow rookie Mitch Marner has been wonderful as well. He has 15 goals and 33 assists, including a goal and an assist in his last five games.
Los Angeles Kings
Flip the script on the Toronto Maple Leafs’ strengths and you’ll have the Los Angeles Kings. Unlike Toronto, the Kings have fantastic defense and goaltending, especially with starting netminder Jonathan Quick finally back in the lineup and newly acquired Ben Bishop backing him up.
The Kings have given up the 5th least goals in the league this season, averaging just 2.51 per game and, for most of the season, that net was protected by Peter Budaj, who ended up being traded for Bishop.

Offensively, the Kings aren’t very good, however. The team has just a couple of guys who can really put the puck in the net and the team ranks 24th in the NHL in goals scored.
Jeff Carter leads the team with 30 goals and 26 assists. Over his last five games, he has a goal and two assists for the Kings.
Carter’s linemate Tanner Pearson has been a great scorer as well. He has 21 goals and 18 assists, including two goals and four assists.
NHL Betting Trends:
- The Total has gone UNDER in four of Toronto’s last seven games
- Los Angeles is 2-6 SU in the last eight games
Free Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Los Angeles Kings NHL Hockey Prediction:
The Maple Leafs are a strong offensive team but the Kings are a strong defensive team. With Quick back in net, I think the Kings get the win in this one.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: OVER 5.5
Toronto is a great offensive team with some fantastic young goal-scorers on the ice a lot. I think Los Angeles will be forced to play aggressive in the offensive zone to keep this game close and we should see quite a few goals in this one.
