Two youth-based hockey clubs collide in Carolina on Saturday night. The Hurricanes visit the Maple Leafs after a 4-3 victory over the Rangers on Thursday.
Meanwhile the Toronto Maple Leafs are in a tight race for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Toronto Maple Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs host the Hurricanes 2 days removed from taking 2 points away from the Philadelphia Flyers, another team trying to chase the final wild card spot in the east.
The Leafs have 10 rookies in their lineup and are playing in front of near playoff atmosphere in the Air Canada Centre, but so far they seem to be holding up ok.

19 year old Auston Matthews has 31 goals already this season, and Nazem Kadri looks poised to score 30 for the first time in his career, as he’s already put in 28.
19 year old Mitch Marner’s first NHL season is going just fine as well, he trails only fellow rookie Auston Matthews as the team leader in points.
The Leafs are at their best when their goaltending is hot, and their goaltending is pretty hot right now. Frederik Andersen stopped 36 of 38 against Philly Thursday night, and has a .940 save percentage the last four games.
Carolina Hurricanes
The Hurricanes are poised to miss the playoffs for the eighth straight year, but there is reason for optimism in Carolina. The Canes have a young team and aren’t terrible defensively, which bodes well for future seasons.
19 year-old Sebastian Aho, a 2nd round pick in 2015, has already netted 20 goals this season. Jeff Skinner is still only 24 years old despite seemingly having been in the league forever. Jordan Staal is still only 28 as well. The Canes have some good players.
[dfads params=’groups=234&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
They rank 15th in the league in terms of goals allowed, but 24th in terms of goals scored.
Cam Ward is an average goaltender, and their defence is also sufficiently average.
They just need to improve their scoring and the Carolina Hurricanes would be a halfway decent hockey team, even one which could make the playoffs. Not this year though.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Leafs are 2-6 in last 8 meetings in Carolina
- Under is 16-5 in the last 21 meetings

Free Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Carolina Hurricanes NHL Hockey Prediction:
The Leafs are a team of kids playing the most meaningful hockey of their lives, and the Canes already know they are out of the playoffs for the eighth straight year.
Mind you, the Canes took 2 points away from the Rangers earlier in the week.
