Team Sweden and Team Russia open their World Cup of Hockey tournament against each other on Sunday afternoon at the ACC.
The Swedes are favored over Russia to win the tournament but both teams are filled with talent. Being that this will be both of their first non-friendly games, the game could definitely go either way.
Both teams are 1-1 in their friendlies so far but the Swedes played a much better team in Finland, where Russia played their games against the Czech republic.
Team Sweden
Sweden has produced some of the greatest players in NHL history, including Peter Forsberg, Nic Lindstrom and Mats Sundin. So it is no surprise that they continue to produce NHL Superstars.
Between the pipes they have one of the best, if not the best, Goalies in the NHL and in international play. Henrik Lundqvist is a beast and a game changer.
Then they have a defense that some are saying are the best to ever take the ice in international play. It’s hard to argue this when it features Erik Karlsson, Oliver Ekman-Larson, Victor Hedman, Niklas Hjalmarsson, Mattias Ekholm, and Hampus Lindholm.

Offensively, they have some studs up front too, including the Sedin Twins, who seem like they always step up their game in international play.
Nick Backstrom usually does well in international play as well, he had four assists in five games played at the Olympics in 2014.
Other notable stars are Hornqvist, Forsberg, Landeskog, Soderberg, and Eriksson.
Their offensive is definitely one of the weaker ones in comparison to Russia but it’s their backend that will make them difficult to beat.
Team Russia
Russia, unlike Sweden, may have some trouble in the crease. Their goalies are Bobrovsky, Varlamov, and Vasilevskiy. All three of their goalies had similar type seasons last year in the NHL that were rather average.
On defensive end they aren’t quite as intimidating as the Swedes, which could be a huge issue for them considering the goaltending isn’t nearly as strong as the Swedes.
Their defense includes Alexei Emelin, Dmitri Kulikov, Alexy Marchenko, Andrei Markov, Nikita Nesterov, Dimitry Orlov. These guys definitely don’t compare to the likes of the Swedes.

What Russia does always produce is offensive Superstars and there is no shortage of them on this team.
They have the NHL’s best goal scorer in Alex Ovechkin who scored 50 goals last season and Stanley Cup Winner Evgeni Malkin, who averaged more than a point a game in 2015-2016.
Then they have one of the best two way players to have ever played the game, Pavel Datsyuk.
On top of that, they have rising star Terasenko, who is just 24 and Kuznetsov who is also just 24.
This offense can run up the scoreboard and steal any game.

Free Team Sweden vs Team Russia Hockey Prediction
This game will be a battle of an offensive beast versus a defensive beast.
While the Russians have a powerful offense, it basically ends there as their defense does not look impressive and their goaltending is just average.
The Swedish offensive is still decent and should be able to get on the scoreboard at least a few times. They’ve already had a six goal game against the fins in the pre tournament games.
The Swedish defense is second to none but will have their work cut out for them against the Russians.
In the end, good defense usually beats good offensive when it comes to hockey but this game will definitely stay close. Give this one to the Swedes.
4* Free World Cup Of Hockey Betting Pick: Sweden ML
A blowout is unlikely in this one but it will be very interesting to see this one play out because a good day for the Russians could see them run up the scoreboard and being that this is still just the first official game, it’s very possible.
However, I just don’t see this happening because the Russians have been unable to do that against the Czech’s, so I think the Swedes keep this one close and pull off a one goal victory.
