Turmoil is swirling in Brooklyn as there are reports that veteran starter, Jaroslav Halak, is on the trade block.
Halak’s agent publicly stated that he was not impressed with how the Islanders were using the goalie and questioned why the club would roster three-goalies.
Tampa Bay has dealt with it’s fair share of controversy alike in the past couple seasons, such as playing hardball with Jonathan Drouin and the Steven Stamkos free agency.
GM Steve Yzerman hasn’t faltered and has been able to retain his players at great prices and build a Stanley Cup favorite.
Tampa Bay Lightning
The Lightning are off to a 5-4 start and are coming off of a blowout loss to the other team in New York on Sunday by a score of 6-1.
The team defense is currently leaving something to be desired, as post-Sunday vs the Rangers, Tampa Bay now sits in 23rd overall in goals against per game at 3.2 on average.
On the offensive side, Steven Stamkos leads the charge with 10 points in nine games, with six of those points being goals.
The sniper is earning his recently-signed deal early on and paying dividend for Yzerman and the Lightning, not that this surprises anyone. The same can be said for Nikita Kucherov, who has recorded a point-per-game across his eight played this year.

Yzerman will face an intriguing decision in net, with Ben Bishop being a pending free agent and he is due for a large raise, which seemingly punches his ticket out of Tampa.
The interesting decision is whether he will be dealt during the season to recoup some assets, as this team is a contender but the expansion draft and protected list looms.
Andrei Vasilevskiy is the keeper in waiting and has actually outperformed Bishop so far this season, with a GAA of 2.05 and SV% of .929, compared to Bishop’s 3.68 and .880, respectively.
New York Islanders
The respective ranks actually suggest that the Islanders may have played better than their 4-5 record suggests. New York currently ranks 7th overall in average-goals per game at a 3.0 mark, despite being just 26th overall in power-play efficiency.
Somewhat surprisingly, Brock Nelson leads the team in scoring with his nine points in nine games.
Nelson is a good young player who has gotten better each season he’s played and no disrespect intended towards him, but this is John Tavares’ team and he should likely lead them in scoring once again.
Tavares currently has seven points in nine games, but leads the team in goals with four. No one would be shocked to see his point production ramp up to a point-per-game or better, though the team will need more than just that to contend for a playoff spot.
Big ticket free agent, Andrew Ladd, was signed to replace Kyle Okposo as a power forward scoring winger, but has tallied just one assist on the year.

As mentioned, the goaltending situation in New York is a mess, with Halak stirring the pot in the media but getting significantly outplayed by Thomas Greiss.
While Halak leads 5-4 in games started, Greiss has recorded a .925 SV% and 2.28 GAA compared to Halak’s 3.04 and .901.
The blueline is well built in front of the netminders, with Travis Hamonic, Nick Leddy, Johnny Boychuk, Thomas Hickey, Calvin de Haan and new signee, Dennis Seidenberg, providing for a deep group of six.
Promising young defender and former first round pick, Ryan Pulock, patiently waits but has a ton of promise once the opporunity arrives for the 22-year old.
NHL Hockey Handicapping Trends
- New York is 3-1 at home at the Barclays Center this season.
- Tampa Bay has lost their last three games, all on being on the road. This will be their last game of their six-game road trip and will be looking to finish it at .500 with a win.
Free Tampa Bay Lightning vs. New York Islanders NHL Hockey Prediction
I like Tampa here, despite being on the road and having lost three straight.
I think the Lightning offense is both better and deeper, and the advantage in net should favor them in the long run, despite what the respective numbers look like early on.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Tampa Bay Moneyline
Yes New York is 3-1 at home and the Tampa Bay is 2-3 on the road, but I like the road team to step-up and finish their lengthy road-trip at .500. New York has a solid defensive group but shutting down Tampa’s three lines is no easy task.
