Central Division foes St. Louis and Nashville will go head to head Thursday evening. The Blues are in a tight race at the top of the Central while Nashville has stumbled out of the gate somewhat and has had trouble finding consistency.
St. Louis Blues
The Blues are going about business in their usual way this season, despite the departure of captain David Backes.
While the addition of Nail Yakupov isn’t really a straight up replacement for Backes, the much maligned former Oiler hasn’t been bad thus far and seems to be a nice depth fit on this team.
Aside from Yakupov, it’s really the usual suspects for this team that continue to get the job done up front. Alex Steen has tallied 10 points already, Vladamir Tarasenko is showing that this is his team now, with 11 points in 13 games.
Nevermind all that though, because the Blues are a very sound defensive team and boast a pair of blueliners that most any team would covet in Alex Pietrangelo and Kevin Shattenkirk.
Brian Elliot has departed for Calgary and this is where the question marks kind of linger for this team, is can Jake Allen prove that he’s the guy now that he doesn’t have a legit starter breathing down his neck?
Allen’s numbers aren’t bad with five wins and a 2.39 GAA, but that’s partly due to a good defensive team in front of him and his .903 SV% leaves some question marks out there.
Nashville Predators
Speaking of question marks, the Preds have been a big one so far.
They beat the Blackhawks to open their season, pummeled the Penguins 5-1, but have back to back losses against the Coyotes and Hurricanes on their resume as well.
Losing Shea Weber is proving to be a bit more of a glaring gap than I think most Preds fans and followers would have predicted.
Weber is just casually leading the NHL in +/- in Montreal at +15 already (he was even in the Habs’ 10-0 loss to Columbus), while the man he was traded for, P.K. Subban is just scuffling along at -5 through 12 games.
Coincidentally the Preds as a team are -5 in the goal differential department with 31 goals for and 36 against. Let the debate rage on as to who won this trade.
For right now though the Preds have to make due with what they have and that’s a pretty solid forward group who still need to round into form.
Filip Forsberg has yet to register a goal in 12 games, Ryan Johansen has scored just once, and James Neal has just three goals.
That’s three pretty big names and big talents to just have four goals in a combined 36 games played.

Free St. Louis Blues vs. Nashville Predators NHL Hockey Prediction:
The Blues will be coming off a game against the Blackhawks (always tough) and will be travelling to Nashville for their second game in two nights.
This likely means former Nashville netminder Carter Hutton will face his old mates.
I expect Hutton to have a solid game and keep the Blues around, but fatigue will be a big factor and I think the Preds pull away in the third for good.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Predators
Preds rested, Blues with their backup in goal against his former team. Seems simple enough. Oh and the last time these teams met in Nashville, the Preds won 5-0.
