Two Central Division opponents take the ice for two very critical points in the standings. The St. Louis Blues travel to Minnesota to take on the Wild with first place on their minds.
St. Louis
The Blues have rebounded nicely after their latest three-game losing streak. St. Louis is still well alive for the divisional crown in the Central and could easily come away with the Western Conference’s No. 1 seed.
Vladimir Tarasenko has led the Blues’ offense all season, but it’s been the defense that’s anchored the team throughout the year. Both Jake Allen and Brian Elliott have been phenomenal in net, and both have answered the bell when the other was injured.

St. Louis comes into this game 6th in goals allowed and 3rd on the penalty kill, so it’s tough to score goals on the Blues.
And even though they’re scoring just 2.45 goals per game, the Blues are a top-five power play team and should have no problem exploiting Minnesota’s 28th-ranked penalty kill.
The Blues are 5-1 in their last six road games and have scored nine goals in their last two contests. Chicago and Dallas have received all the attention in the Central, but St. Louis is right on their tails.
Minnesota
The Wild have looked like a completely different team since firing head coach Mike Yeo a few weeks ago. Minnesota is 7-3 in its last 10 games and is now tied with the Colorado Avalanche for the Western Conference’s final playoff spot.
Minnesota recently had a three-game skid of its own, but the Wild have answered right back with three-straight wins where they’ve outscored their opponents 11-5.

On paper, the Wild aren’t anything to write home about. They’re middle of the road both offensively and defensively, but they’re playing with momentum that could very well catapult them into the playoffs.
The downside to this matchup is that Minnesota is just 4-8 on the second leg of back-to-back games.
That could very well work against the Wild since they played in Buffalo on Saturday.

Both of these teams are vying for two critical points. While St. Louis could force a three-way tie for the Central Division lead with a win, the Wild could leap ahead of Colorado for that final playoff spot.
The Blues will have fresh legs in this contest and will come away with two points against a team that struggles on back-to-back contests.
