Pittsburgh was all set to take the cup.
The streets were packed, Consol Energy Arena was rocking. However, the Sharks had their say and now the series shifts back to San Jose for Game 6.
San Jose Sharks
San Jose didn’t show any fear heading into Game 5. They remained cool headed and confident and got off to exactly the start they needed.
San Jose raced out to a 2-0 lead, but within minutes coughed that up. They took the lead late in the first and never conceded after that. Adding an empty netter late, the Sharks stunned the packed city and returned this series to par with the series heading back into San Jose.

Martin Jones gets a lot of credit for the Sharks still being in this series. Jones turned aside 44 of the 46 shots the Penguins peppered at him. He never allowed them to gain any momentum or easy rebounds after allowing the first two in.
San Jose now returns home, where they have done a good job at protecting home ice. Despite losing one this series, when their backs have been against the wall, they have done a nice job in San Jose feeding off the home crowd.
Pittsburgh Penguins
Pittsburgh was looking to clinch the first title for the town at home in over 50 years. Now, they have to worry about not blowing this series.
The Penguins coughed up their first chance as the offense went ice cold and couldn’t solve Martin after two early strikes to tie things up. Despite outshooting their opponents for a 13th straight time, they couldn’t find the back of the net in the 2nd or 3rd periods.

The good news for Pittsburgh is that they still have two chances to clinch. However, while it would be been ideal to clinch in front of their home crowd, sending this series back to Pittsburgh for a Game 7 could be bad news.
Pittsburgh has proven they can steal a road game. They’ve done it all postseason long and goalie Matt Murray has responded to losses in the postseason with phenomenal performances.
