Coming off a 5-1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks, the Pittsburgh Penguins head to New York to take on the fellow Metropolitan Division Rangers.
The New York Rangers, with losses in the last two games, will look to tighten up the defense and get a good win against the Penguins as we get closer to the playoffs.
Pittsburgh Penguins
It’s been a wonderful season for the Pittsburgh Penguins but a current slew of injuries has the team’s chances at going far in the playoffs up in the air. To start, star defenseman Kris Letang has been out since late February with an upper body injury.
Evgeni Malkin, the team’s second best scorer, has been out with a shoulder injury and there’s no date for his return.

Carl Hagelin, Olli Maata, and Trevor Daley are also out with injuries. The team has to get healthy in time for the playoffs.
Right now, the brunt of the team offense rests solely on Sidney Crosby. Malkin has been great all year, putting up 33 goals and 39 assists, and he has been missed on this team since his injury. Crosby has been brilliant all year, carrying the team with Malking out.
Crosby has 42 goals and 40 assists in 70 games this season, including two goals over his last five games.
New York Rangers
It’s been a pretty solid season for the New York Rangers and the team will surely be heading to the playoffs, likely in the Eastern Conference’s top Wild Card spot. The Rangers have been fantastic all season, especially on the goal-scoring front. The Rangers rank 3rd in the league in goals per game, averaging 3.18 goals a night.
The team has a great set of forwards that have been solid all season, propelling the team offense into the top five in the NHL. Michael Grabner has been a great goal-scorer, putting up 27 goals along with 12 assists. Over his last five games, he doesn’t have a single point however.

Left wing Chris Kreider has been an important skater for the Rangers as well. He has 26 goals and 24 assists this season, but just a single assist over his last five games.
The defense and goaltending have been pretty good for this team as well. Starter Henrik Lundqvist hasn’t had his best season in terms of goals against, but has helped the team tremendously. He is 30-18-3 this season with a 2.74 GAA and a .911 save percentage.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Pittsburgh is 1-4 ATS in the last five games
- New York is 1-5 SU in the last six games against Pittsburgh
Free Pittsburgh Penguins vs. New York Rangers NHL Hockey Prediction:
The Penguins are an offensive powerhouse, one that even the best teams have a tough time stopping. Fighting through injuries, this will be a tough game but I like Pittsburgh to steal the W on the road against New York.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: OVER 5.5
We’re often treated to a lot of goals in these Metropolitan Division matchups. With two great offenses taking the ice, I like the Over in this one.
