The Pittsburgh Penguins, losers of their last two games, look to stay within striking distance of the Washington Capitals in the Metropolitan Division.
They’ll travel to North Carolina to face the slumping Hurricanes in this divisional battle.
Pittsburgh Penguins
Pittsburgh was stymied by the lowly Detroit Red Wings at home on Sunday to stay five points behind the Capitals for the division lead. Despite owning the NHL’s best offense, the Pens have only scored three goals over their previous two games.
Luckily for them, they’ll face a Hurricanes team that they’ve already beaten twice this season.

If this season has taught us anything, it’s that Pittsburgh doesn’t struggle for long. The Pens haven’t scored less than three goals in three straight games all season, which means the Canes could be in plenty of trouble in this game.
Pittsburgh has also been incredibly successful against Metropolitan opponents this year with a record of 13-5-1. And in two meetings with the Hurricanes so far, they’ve outscored Carolina 10-3.
Carolina Hurricanes
Despite an awful regular season, the Hurricanes had their impressive home record to fall back on. With a 17-7-2 record inside PNC Arena, it was the only bright spot they had.
Unfortunately, the Hurricanes have looked awful in their last two home games, including their recent 4-0 shutout on Sunday.
Carolina is occupying the cellar of the Metropolitan right now, no thanks to a terrible division record and a poor mark away from home. The Canes are 6-14 SU against divisional opponents and have lost seven of their last 10 matchups against the Penguins.

Offensive woes continue to hurt Carolina and its 2.57 goals per game average this season. The Canes have scored an anemic 0.75 goals per game over their last four contests, so it’s easy to see why they’ve lost four in a row.
In their 4-0 loss to the Maple Leafs on Sunday, they had 37 shots on goal but were still shutout by backup netminder Curtis McElhinney.
They better find some offense if they want to have a chance against a dangerous Pittsburgh team that’s averaging more than 3.50 goals per game this year.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Penguins are 13-5-1 vs. the Metropolitan Division.
- Penguins are 7-3 SU in their last 10 games vs, the Hurricanes.
- Penguins O/U is 6-5 in their last 11 games.
- Hurricanes are 0-4 SU in their last 4 games.
- Hurricanes are 6-14 SU vs. the Metropolitan Division.
Free Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Carolina Hurricanes NHL Hockey Prediction:
The Pittsburgh Penguins’ offense doesn’t stay quiet for long, and I think they’ll take out their recent struggles on a Hurricanes team that can’t put anything in the net.
Carolina’s offense is incredibly bad right now, and they’ll be in for a challenge as they try to keep up with the NHL’s best offensive unit.
