Coming off a 2-1 shootout win over the Florida Panthers, the Philadelphia Flyers head to the nation’s capital to take on the Washington Capitals.
Washington, with wins in four of the last five, look to continue its fantastic regular season with a win over the fellow Metro Division Flyers.
Philadelphia Flyers
Despite an exciting shootout win against Florida on Thursday, the Philadelphia Flyers have been anything but impressive over the last couple of months and have slipped further and further out of playoff contention in the Metropolitan Division.
The best the team can hope for now is a Wild Card birth.
Philly has struggled on both sides of the ice, having a hard time scoring the puck and also a hard time stopping the puck. The Flyers have the 19th most goals in the league (163) and give up the 6th most goals in the league (188).

The goaltending has been suspect all season, with starter Steve Mason posting a mediocre record of 18-17-6 with a 2.78 goals against average.
Offensively, the team has only been able to rely on a couple of skaters to consistently score. Right wing Wayne Simmonds leads the pack with 27 goals along with 17 assists. Over his last five games, he has three goals for the Flyers.
Washington Capitals
Unlike the Flyers, the Washington Capitals sit atop the Metropolitan Division and are one of the favorites to head to the Stanley Cup Finals.
The Capitals have been fantastic on both sides of the ice, ranking 4th in goals scored and 1st in goals against.
The Capitals get quality play from all four lines and have nine players with more than 10 goals this season, none more than captain Alex Ovechkin. Ovechkin has 27 goals and 27 assists on the year, including two assists over his last five games.

Right wing T.J. Oshie has been great for the Caps as well. He has 24 goals and 19 assists on the year, including four goals and four assists over his last five games. However, his status is questionable for Saturday’s game due to an upper-body injury.
Nicklas Backstrom has played some solid hockey, posting 19 goals and a team leading 45 assists. He has two goals and an assist over his last five.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Philadelphia is 4-7 SU in the last 11 games
- The Total has gone UNDER in five of Washington’s last seven games
Free Philadelphia Flyers vs. Washington Capitals NHL Hockey Prediction:
Washington has been one of the strongest teams all season and having a superstar like Alexander Ovechkin gives the team an immediate edge. Washington should take this game at home and get the W.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: OVER 5
Washington has the ability to score five or six goals on any given night and it should have a good shot at doing so against a poor Philadelphia defense. This game should hit the OVER.
