The quickly budding NHL superstars in Toronto will take on a couple of established ones from Philadelphia.
William Nylander, Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner lead the Leafs in scoring as rookies, and have helped their team to an 11th place ranking in average goals per game at 2.8.
In Philly, the offense is once again led by star captain, Claude Giroux, and teammate Jacob Voracek.
Both players are producing at over a point-per-game pace while logging big minutes for coach, Dave Hakstol.
Philadelphia Flyers
Giroux and Voracek are tied for the team lead in points with 15 a piece, seeing Voracek net the most goals (tied at 6) and set-up man, Giroux, the most assists (11) for the Flyers.
Wayne Simmonds has been strong playing alongside Giroux on the top-line, tallying six goals of his own in addition to his six assists.
The depth scoring for Philly has been solid this year, with the addition of rookie Travis Konecny chipping in nine points in whats been an excellent start to his NHL career.
Brayden Schenn, once a top prospect in his own right, has also recorded nine points across his 11 games and Matt Read is also tied for Flyers goals at six.
The defensive group has been producing points, as evidenced by Mark Streit’s 10, Shayne Gostisbehere’s nine, Brandon Mannin’s seven and Ivan Provorov’s six.
The defensive unit, however, may want to start focusing a little more of the defensive side of the game as the Flyers have allowed 3.6 goals against on average, which ranks them 27th overall in the league.

The goaltending for Philadelphia has been nothing short of amazing, but not in a good way…
Neither Steve Mason, nor Michal Neuvirth own a SV% of .890 or better and both have a GAA of over 3.20. If Philly is going to stand a chance to make it to playoffs.
GM Ron Hextall may already be looking around for an acquisition to solidify his crease, a position which he is quite familiar with.
Toronto Maple Leafs
It’s been all about the rookies in Toronto this season, finally giving Leafs’ fans something to cheer about (unfortunately) after years and years of misery.
First overall selection, Auston Matthews, has been a revelation with six goals and 11 points in 13 games thus far. Nylander is the clubhouse in scoring with 12 points in his 13 games.
Mitch Marner has special talent and it’s evident when you watch the Leafs play.
His hands are elite and the way he is able to maneuver and create space on the ice for himself, while only checking in at 5’11 (generously listed) and 160 lbs and playing against men.
The veterans have stepped up their play of late so they don’t get forgotten in the shuffle, with JVR now totalling 10 points on the year and Nazem Kadri having six goals himself and nine points, while playing a tough two-way game against the oppositions’ top players.

A deal that sent a first round pick and Jonathan Bernier to Anaheim in exchange for Toronto’s goaltender of the future, Frederik Andersen, looked concerning to start the year.
Andersen has been much better as of late, seemingly settling in to his new life in Toronto, winning three of his past four games and stopping 131 of 141 shots faced in November, good for a .929 SV%.
NHL Hockey Handicapping Trends
- The Maple Leafs are 4-2-0 at home this year
- The Leafs rank 6th overall in powerplay percentage at 22.9%
- The Flyers are 3rd overall in gaols per game at 3.4
Free Philadelphia Flyers vs Toronto Maple Leafs NHL Hockey Prediction
With both offenses firing on both cylinders and neither of the teams’ defensive units or goaltending producing anything of quality, I think there should be a high goal total in this game.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Over 5.5
The goals against for Philly rank them 27th overall and their penalty sits 21st at just 79.1%. Toronto ism’t much better, seeing as they sit in 29th overall in goals against at 3.6 per game, although their PK sits 8th at 85.7%.
Freddy Andersen has had a better November, but his past two games see his SV% back in the .800’s.
