Metropolitan Division foes will tie up on Thursday night as the Philadelphia Flyers visit the New Jersey Devils. The Flyers are down and nearly out of the playoff picture while the floundering Devils can all but kiss this season goodbye.
Philadelphia Flyers
It’s been a roller coaster season for the Flyers, who, no more than a month ago were in a tight battle for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The team has struggled since and are riding a three-game losing streak heading into a Wednesday night contest with the Penguins.
Philly will travel to New Jersey to cap off back to back games, that could really be the make or break point. A pair of losses in this back to back would all but seal the fate of Philly as they would be left with just 12 games to play and would sit at least seven points back.

What’s hard to understand is that this team is talented with the likes of Claude Giroux, Jakob Voracek, Wayne Simmonds, Brayden Schenn, and youngster Travis Konecny up front. The goaltending has been the major determining factor in this team’s success however, as when they don’t get solid goalie starts, they tend to lose.
Neither Michael Neuvirth or Steve Mason has had a great season. Mason has had the bulk of the starts with 44 to Neuvirth’s 22, but the 28-year-old Mason is only holding on to the starter role due to Neuvirth being unable to make the most of his appearances. With a 2.77 GAA and .905 SV%, Mason has just had far too many off nights this year and it’s put the Flyers in a tough spot.
New Jersey Devils
The Devils got through a scheduled game without losing for the first time in what feels like forever. That was only due to having their Tuesday night game with the Jets postponed because of the weather.
The Devils haven’t been in the playoff picture at all really this season, but they’re way out of it now. Losing 10 straight games and earning just two points in OT losses over that stretch has plunged New Jersey to the bottom of the Eastern Conference.

New Jersey are all but eliminated and should be playing loose down the stretch as they’ll be looking to take on the spoiler role, especially with an opportunity to set back the Flyers and put another hole in what is a sinking ship.
Keith Kinkaid will give starter Corey Schneider and extended break. The backup netminder was very solid in relief of Schneider who was pulled against the Coyotes after giving up four goals on 10 shots. Kinkaid turned aside 20 of 21 shots but was stuck with the loss on the night.

Free Philadelphia Flyers vs. New Jersey Devils NHL Hockey Prediction:
A rested Devils team playing a Flyers team that will surely have expelled quite a bit of effort against their state rivals, the Pittsburgh Penguins the night before. I like the Devils to finally snap out of their 10-game skid.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: New Jersey – 105
The Devils have not been very good defensively of late, but playing a Flyers team coming off back to back games with travel looks like one that is ripe for the picking and New Jersey has had the Flyers’ number this season
