The parity in the bulk of the Atlantic Division is crazy, seeing as Buffalo has a 5-5-2 record, yet sits in last in the division with 12 points.
Seven of the Eight teams in the Atlantic sit within three points of each other, with Montreal being the outlier at 10-1-1 for 21 points.
Ottawa is one of those teams in the thick of the Division pack, with 14 points and currently sitting in 3rd, but just two points ahead of Buffalo.
Ottawa Senators
The Senators have experienced an emotional rollercoaster this season, with #1 netminder, Craig Anderson, fighting a serious illness in his family but trying to play through it.
Anderson’s wife has been diagnosed with cancer, and Craig blanked the Oilers in an emotional shutout performance that was nothing short of incredible.
Anderson has since taken a leave of absence to deal with the family matters, which prompted Sens’ management to make an astute deal in the acquisition of Mike Condon from Pittsburgh.
Condon was dealt to Ottawa in return for a 5th round pick in the 2017 Draft, and recorded a shutout in his first game in the Nation’s capital, his only start of the year.

To nobody’s surpise, however, is the play of defenseman and captain, Erik Karlsson, who has registered 10 points in as many games to lead the Sens in scoring.
Karlsson is an elite offensive talent and a perennial Norris award consideration. Up front, Kyle Turris leads with seven points (tied with two others) and has the sole lead of goal with five, two being overtime game winners.
While the Sens sit in 3rd in their division (as mentioned), they will need more production from their secondary scoring if they wish to continue to do so.
Bobby Ryan, Derick Brassard and Mark Stone all have either six goals or less.
Buffalo Sabres
The Sabres have done their best to cope with the loss of budding-star forward, Jack Eichel, who remains sideline with an ankle injury sustained immediately before the season began.
His loss is certainly felt, though, as Buffalo ranks 28th in goals-per-game with the scoring center out of the lineup this season.
The young forward group has been led by Ryan O’Reilly with Eichel out, who has eight points in 12 games and is logging by far the most minutes of any Sabres’ forward at 22:17 ATOI.
O’Reilly is one of those Swiss army knife-type players who can do it all and plays a complete two-way game.
Off-season signee, Kyle Okposo, has chipped in five goals and eight points, which is tied for the team-lead with O’Reilly and defenseman, Rasmus Ristolainen.
Okposo should directly benefit from the return of Eichel as his right-winger, after flourishing alongside a great center, John Tavares, in Long Island.

Their goals against per game ranks as 8th best at 2.3 per game, a lot having to do with the strong play of their goaltending.
Robin Lehner receives the bulk of the starts and has performed to a tune of a 2.34 GAA and .925 SV% in his nine appearances this season.
Anders Nilsson was acquired in the off-season to back him up, and has registered a strong 1.95 GAA and .937 SV% in his three starts.

Free Ottawa Senators vs. Buffalo Sabres NHL Hockey Prediction
Buffalo is has a solid young core that looks like they can compete soon, however, with Eichel out and the team still in the development process it may not be this year.
Ottawa has acquired some veteran pieces over the past season to try to put together a playoff run this year.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Ottawa Moneyline
If Eichel was in the lineup, I might be more hesitant to take the visiting Sens in this one. But, he’s not, and even though the Senators are starting Mike Condon in net, I still like the matchup (although, admittedly would like it much more if it was Anderson between the pipes)
