The Rangers wrap up their California road trip with a stop in San Jose to take on the suddenly struggling San Jose Sharks. Both teams have all but clinched a playoff spot, but seeding can still come into play down the stretch.
New York Rangers
The Rangers, as mentioned, have all but locked up a playoff spot and are the best wildcard team in the NHL, as the Metropolitan Division has been an absolute wrecking machine for most of the season.
The Rangers are very realistically going to end up with 100+ points and likely finish as the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference. This may be the season we look back on as the one that forced the hand of NHL executives to change the playoff format.
New York will draw Montreal or Ottawa in round one of the post season, and will not have home ice, against a team they finish ahead of in terms of total points.

Despite a strong record, the Rangers have been a bit of a mystery this year, in large part due to Henrik Lundqvist just not looking himself. Maybe it’s age or fatigue or some injury we’re not aware of, but King Henrik has posted a pedestrian 2.70 GAA and .912 SV% which are both below the league average.
This team is still solid, but as was proven in last year’s playoffs against the Penguins, when Lundqvist is average, they have difficulty winning games.
San Jose Sharks
It seems as though last year’s Stanley Cup finalists are finally hitting their hangover. A team that was in command of the Pacific Division for much of the season has seen their grasp on the top spot slip away to the surging Anaheim Ducks.
San Jose has lost six straight games and what’s more disturbing is that they’ve been losing ugly of late.

The Sharks were pummeled 7-2 by Nashville last time out, and 6-1 by the Dallas Stars the game before that. They were also blanked 1-0 by the same Dallas Stars during their current skid, and took losses on home ice to both St. Louis and Anaheim.
The offence has just gone completely dormant of late, as San Jose has managed to score just seven goals during their six game losing streak.
NHL Betting Trends:
- The Rangers beat San Jose 7-4 back in October
- Sharks are 6-1 in their last 7 vs. Metropolitan
- Home team is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings
- Rangers are 1-4 in their last 5 when their opponent allows 5 goals or more in their previous game.
- Rangers are 1-6 in their last 7 in the third game of a 3-in-4 situation
Free New York Rangers vs. Minnesota Wild NHL Hockey Prediction:
The Rangers are wrapping up one of the toughest road trips in hockey with their third game in four nights against a Sharks team that is going to be desperate for a win.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: San Jose Sharks
The Rangers might be a little road weary in this one and have not fared well in their third game in four nights. I don’t see the Sharks dropping a seventh straight, they’re long overdue for a win.
