The Islanders didn’t make a single move at the trade deadline after many rumors were swirling about their interest in Colorado’s Matt Duchene.
Instead, the team has decided to rally around the coaching change made in February in effort to push towards a playoff spot.
Vancouver was considered a winner at the deadline, as the 6th place team in the Pacific looks towards the future, though still only six points back of the final wildcard seed.
New York Islanders
While GM Garth Snow stood pat, the Islanders have points in 10 of their last 16 games since the start of February. They now sit in the first wildcard spot in the East with 71 points on the year.
John Tavares leads his team with 24 goals and 54 points on the season. The captain is due to become a free agent after next season and a big pay raise, regardless if it’s with the Islanders or another team.

GM Garth Snow will need to give Tavares some support around him on the ice if he wants to retain the captain’s services.
Currently, Josh Bailey and Anders Lee occupy the first line alongside Tavares, each having a career season. Bailey has 45 points and Lee has 38, good for second and third on the team stat sheet.
Ryan Strome was not a favorite of former coach, Jack Capuano, but the former 5th overall pick has produced 13 points in 16 games since the start of February and appears rejuvenated under the tutelage of Doug Weight.
Thomas Greiss has played well this season in a starting role for the first time, registering a .916 SV% and a 2.57 GAA with 21 wins in 39 appearances.
Vancouver Canucks
While the Canucks don’t have any scorers currently in the top-75 in the NHL, they may have acquired a future one in Jonathan Dahlen at the trade deadline.
Dahlen, a 19-year old Swede who has netted nearly a point-per-game in the Swedish Pro Leagues, and son of former NHLer, Ulf Dahlen.
Dahlen, a former 2nd-round selection, was acquired in a deal that sent Alex Burrows to the Ottawa Senators.
The Canucks GM Jim Benning also shipped speedy winger, Jannick Hansen, to the San Jose Sharks for former 2014 1st-round pick, Nikolay Goldobin and a conditional 4th round pick.
Goldobin was scoring at a nice pace in the AHL and scored in his first game with the Canucks on Saturday night.
Leading the Canucks’ scoring charge is young center, Bo Horvat, who is a key building block for Vancouver.

The 21-year old has registered 20 goals and 45 overall points on the year, both marks leading the club.
Veteran netminder, Ryan Miller, is in his final year of a three-year, $18-million deal and but was not dealt at the blueline despite efforts to.
He currently owns a .916 SV% and 2.67 GAA in his walk year.
The Canucks may turn to Richard Bachman again, who allowed just one goa and earned the win in his first NHL start since October 2015.
