The New Jersey Devils head to Canada on Saturday to take on the Ottawa Senators.
The Devils are struggling to stay relevant in the tough Metropolitan Division, while the Senators are trying to keep one of the top spots in the Atlantic Division despite losing four in a row.
New Jersey Devils
The Devils are having an extremely tough time on both sides of the ice. After giving up nineteen goals in the last four games, New Jersey is officially in big trouble.
The Devils are 2-4-2 in their last eight games and have all but lost the luster from their early November five-game winning streak. The team has gone from stud to dud over the past 30 days and can’t seem to score or stop opponents from scoring.

With only 69 goals on the season, New Jersey is ranked 27th in the NHL while also being 14th in goals against.
Although, that rank is considerably worse in the month of December, as the team has given up 29 goals in their games so far.
Taylor Hall has been fantastic recently, despite the losses. In his last five games, eight points including three goals. The offseason trade for Hall is starting to look like the right move.
Unfortunately, not many other good moves were made for this Devils team and New Jersey is paying the price for that.
Ottawa Senators
Goalie Craig Andersen continues to be on leave to tend to his wife. Mark Borowiecki will be back after serving a two game suspension and Fredrik Claesson is still on the injured reserve list.
The Senators are hurting due to these injuries and absences and having a tough time putting wins together as a result.
Ottawa has lost six of its last eight, including an 8-5 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Senators have given up 23 goals in their last five games and the middle of the road defense is starting to get worse.
It hasn’t helped that Ottawa ranks in the bottom third (22nd) of the NHL in goals for and, even on good scoring nights, can’t play enough defense to get the win.

To beat the Devils, Ottawa has to seal up the holes on the defensive end and give some help to backup goaltender Mike Condon, who has big skates to fill while Andersen is on leave.
NHL Betting Trends:
- New Jersey is 0-5 ATS in last five games
- The Total has gone OVER in four of Ottawa’s last five games
Free New Jersey Devils vs. Ottawa Senators NHL Hockey Prediction:
Neither of these teams are playing good hockey right now. However, I think the edge goes to the Senators considering the lack of talent on the Devils. Ottawa should get the W at home.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Ottawa -145
Both teams are struggling to win games right now. At home, the edge goes to Ottawa but not by much.
