The Stars issues from a year ago, that were somewhat covered up by a torrid scoring pace, have been revealed in full this year.
Their goaltending and defense have been amongst the worst in the league and their scoring pace has considerably slowed, which has led them to a 10-10-6 record and a 6th place standing in their division.
Not too far ahead of the Stars sits Nashville, with 26 points of their own, albeit with two games at hand on their counterpart.
Nashville has had a tough time on the road this year which has contributed to their current seeding in the Central.
Dallas Stars
Tyler Seguin is about the only Star that has continued their pace from a season ago, leading the team with 27 points in 26 games.
Patrick Eaves surprisingly leads the team in goals with 10, which says something about Jamie Benn’s slow start, which has finally started to turn around.
Blueline staple, John Klingberg, has recorded 12 points in 24 games, which is certainly not on pace to repeat his 58 point season in 2015-16, but is still a solid pace considering the lack of scoring in Dallas this year as a whole.

Klingberg also doesn’t have the same talent level in his fellow blueliners, as gone are Jason Demers, Jyri Jokipakka and Kris Russell.
Concussion and symptoms have hampered winger Patrick Sharp all season, and sees his point total sit at two while he deals with the issues again. It certainly hurts the depth of Dallas, as Sharp provided 20 goals and 55 points last year.
As mentioned, the Stars crease is a mess. Antti Niemi and Kari Lehtonen both don’t appear to be starting quality netminders any longer, but both as paid as such.
Lehtonen has a 3.03 GAA and a .892 SV%, and Niemi owns a 3.20 and .902, respectively.
The combined $9.4-million ticket essentially ties the hands of GM Jim Nill unless he can work some magic with a rebuilding team.
Nashville Predators
Nashville has long been renowned for their defensive prowess and ability to earn wins in tight, low-scoring games.
It seems that the recent personnel changes, namely acquiring PK Subban for Shea Weber this off-season, and Ryan Johansen for Seth Jones last year.
The Preds are now a high-scoring team, sitting 6th overall in goals per game at an average of 3.0, and a powerplay efficiency rate of 22.1% which is good for 8th best.
The goals against has taken a bit of a hit from years past, however, as they now sit in 18th in the category, allowing 2.7 per contest.
The Preds are not an exciting team to watch, and have a legitimate shot to make a deep playoff run with a balanced group. Nashville has 10 different players with double-digit point totals, led by their superstars PK Subban, Ryan Johansen and Filip Forsberg, who all have 16.

Pekka Rinne has once again been his great self, providing the stable hand between the pipes to the tune of a .928 SV% and 2.18 GAA on the year.
Young back-up, Juuse Saros, may be the future once Rinne’s time has come (which is not close at this rate) as he owns a .940 SV% and a 1.70 GAA in his three games, after performing admirably in the minors last year.
