Each of these two teams had big expectations heading into the season, namely Nashville after making a huge splash and dealing away their long-time captain, Shea Weber, to Montreal for PK Subban.
Each side of that deal appears to be working out for the two clubs, as both defenseman currently lead their respective team in scoring at this point of the year.
Anaheim and Nashville both have tallied two wins and three losses on the season, with Anaheim having played one more game and registering an overtime loss on top.
So it would be safe to assume that these two teams will play a tight game.
Nashville Predators
As mentioned, PK Subban has kicked off his time in Nashville with a bang, helping lead the Preds to the 1st ranked powerplay percentage at 47.4% with his four powerplay points. He’s also logged a team-high in ice time with an average of 24:38 per game.
The Subban trade highlights many astute deals that GM David Poile has completed over the past couple seasons, boosting the one-ice product to become one of the most exciting teams in the league to watch.
Last year, he dealt promising young defenseman, Seth Jones, to Columbus for #1 center, Ryan Johansen, which was a deal made from strength and depth on the blueline for an area of need.
He also managed to fleece Filip Forsberg from Washington earlier for Martin Erat, in one of the most lopsided trades in recent memory. Also, he sent Patric Hornqvist to Pittsburg for scoring winger James Neal.

Defending has always been Nashville strength, led by elite goalie, Pekka Rinne, in net behind their strong blueline. Rinne has a .922 SV% on the season with a 2.71 GAA through his three starts.
Nashville boasts a top-4 of Subban, Roman Josi, Eyan Ellis and Mattias Ekholm, which matches up against any of the best defensive units in the NHL.
Anaheim Ducks
Anaheim’s offense has long been their calling card, with stars Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry up front leading the charge.
This season, however, the firepower is off to a sluggish start, currently ranking 26th overall in goals per game at an average of 2.3.
Their powerplay hasn’t got going yet either, ranking 19th at a 15.0% success rate.
Perry and Getzlaf are now into their 30’s, and though neither will likely win a scoring title again they still continue to be Anaheim’s top producers. Getzlaf has tallied eight points in his six games played so far, which is one behind the league lead of nine.
The Ducks’ depth has been hurt by the absence of young pivot, Richard Rakell, who tallied 20 goals and 43 points a season ago. Rakell is currently an unsigned RFA, along with blue liner Hampus Lindholm, who really hurt their depth in the lineup.

Anaheim currently ranks 9th overall in the league in average goals-against per game, at a 2.7 mark.
John Gibson was handed full reigns to the Anaheim crease this off-season, when Frederick Andersen was dealt to Toronto.
Gibson was long regarded as the top NHL goalie prospect, and while having a slow start to the year, remains one of the best young goalies in the game. He’s tallied a 2.64 GAA and .891 SV% through five games, with a 2-2-1 record.
Sami Vatenen and Cam Fowler lead the blueline in Long Beach, tallying 5 and 4 points respectively on the year while each logging over 23 minutes.
As mentioned, the holdout by Sami Vatenen hurts their depth and has forced young players such as Josh Manson and Jacob Larsson into more prominent roles.
NHL Hockey Handicapping Trends
- Nashville and Anaheim faced each other in the 2015-16 playoffs, with Nashville winning the series in game-7.
- Last year, these two teams faced each other 10 times including playoffs. The goal differential favored Anahiem 25-24 overall

These squads always play each other close, as evidenced by the seven game playoff series last spring and the overall goal differential by just one-goal. Neither team has scored a ton this year, with each only having recorded one game with a total of 4 or above.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Under 5.5
Seven of the ten games these two teams played last year had a total of five goals or less. Nashville is renowned for their defense and goaltending and I think they play a tight game on the road once they get a lead in Anaheim.
I’ll take the under.
