Coming off of three consecutive losses, the Montreal Canadiens will head to New York for a tough battle against the Metropolitan Division Rangers.
The Rangers are coming off a hard-nosed win over the Washington Capitals on Sunday and will look to keep the positive momentum going against Montreal.
Montreal Canadiens
With the newly minted head coach Claude Julien officially taking the reins, the Canadiens feel that they have a new-found attitude on this hockey season and are looking to make a deep push in the playoffs.
Sitting 1st in the Atlantic Division, there’s still a lot of work left to do and the Canadiens will need to start winning again.

Montreal has lost the last three games, including a 3-1 loss to Winnipeg in Julien’s first game behind the bench. With that loss, the Canadiens have lost seven of the last eight games.
The team’s defense has not been consistent recently and goaltender Carey Price hasn’t looked like himself for most of the season. Price is 24-15-5 this season with a 2.45 goals against average and a .918 save percentage.
The offense has been inconsistent as well. The team ranks 12th in the league in goals and is led by captain Max Pacioretty. Pacioretty has 28 goals and 23 assists this season, including three goals and four assists in his last five games.
New York Rangers
Montreal will have to figure out a way to contain the Rangers’ offense if it wants to win this game, but it will be no easy task.
The Rangers have been fantastic all season, especially on the goal-scoring front. The Rangers rank 2nd in the league in goals per game, averaging 3.4 a night.
Right wing Michael Grabner continues to lead the team in goals. He has 26 goals and 10 assists this year. He’s been in a bit of a slump recently, scoring just one goal and one assist over his last five games.

Opposite ice, left wing Chris Kreider is having a great year as well. He has 22 goals and 18 assists this year. Similary to Grabner, he has just a single goal and a single assist over his last five games.
Rick Nash has been playing some solid hockey, despite being slowed down by injuries throughout the season. He has 16 goals and 13 assists, including a goal and two assists over his last five.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Montreal is 0-5 ATS in the last five games
- New York is 3-8 ATS in the last 11 games
Free Montreal Canadiens vs. New York Rangers NHL Hockey Prediction:
The Rangers continue to be an offensive powerhouse, one that even the best teams have a tough time stopping. Montreal continues to struggle recently and it will have a tough time against the Rangers. New York gets the W at home.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Over 5.5
The Rangers continue to score at will and I think the team should get a few goals in this one. Montreal has enough offensive power to get a couple goals as well.
