A good old-fashioned Eastern Conference donnybrook ensues on Friday night in Buffalo, as the overachieving Sabres and visiting Canadiens do battle once again. Montreal has already come up short twice to Buffalo, 6-5 and 4-3, earlier in the year. This contest should have more flavor to it than a Buffalo wing.
Montreal Canadiens
Montreal head coach Claude Julien deserves credit, because the Habs have been exceeding expectations all season long. Acquiring Max Domi and Tomas Tatar have been slam dunks so far, even though pundits thought that Montreal lost those trades when they first occurred. On his day, Montreal still has the best goaltender in the world in Carey Price.

The Canadiens are right in the mix of a log-jammed, highly-competitive Atlantic division. Sure, the Habs are coming off an ugly 5-2 loss to New Jersey, but they’ll want to avenge that, plus they lost a nailbiter the last time they visited western New York. It should leave them highly motivated in this understated little divisional rivalry.
Buffalo Sabres
To quote a ’90s hit, it’s been a ‘semi-charmed life’ for the Sabres lately. You have to feel good about a city used to constant sports disappointment (and Nathan Peterman, for God’s sake!) able to go to stadium and enjoy a quality product for a change. The Sabres are playing really well right now. Sniper Jeff Skinner is rejuvenated in the Queen City, of all places, and Jason Pominville continues to elude Father Time.

Buffalo has a really nice, still-in-development young core built around Jack Eichel, speedy blueliner Rasmus Dahlin and Minnesotan Casey Mittelstadt. Goalie Carter Hutton has been adequate in the Meshed Metropolis. Not to mention, Buffalo has had a couple of entertaining, barn-burning games against Montreal lately. It should make for a treat on the shores of Lake Erie on Friday night.

Free Montreal Canadiens vs. Buffalo Sabres NHL Prediction:
These teams are pretty well matched; both can skate, both are getting goaltending recently and both are putting the puck in the net (against the odds).
It should make for a good one, and Montreal fans always travel well to the Queen City, particularly with the French influence around neighboring Welland in Canada.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Buffalo +
Between the split allegiances and the fact Buffalo got the better of them the past two matches, I like the visitors to steal a victory in this one.
