Two of the NHL’s Original Six clash in Bean Town as the Montreal Canadiens, the Atlantic Division’s top team, square off with rival Boston.
Montreal Canadiens
After a wicked hot start to the 2016-17 season, the Canadiens have since fallen on hard times. While the Habs still hold the top spot in the Atlantic Division, they’ve been the beneficiaries of playing in a weak division.
Though Montreal leads their division with 70 points, they’d be in 5th place if they played in the incredibly difficult Metropolitan Division.

The Canadiens have been skiddish both offensively and defensively, and they need to get their act together soon or they’ll find themselves even closer to the 2nd-place Senators.
Montreal has lost four of its last five games and has scored just eight goals in that span. They were also shutout in two of those games, including once to the NHL’s worst team, the Colorado Avalanche.
On the plus side, the Habs have a strong divisional record of 11-2-5, including a 2-1 record against the Bruins. The Canadiens will need to find the back of the net frequently if they want to beat a Bruins team that’s scored 26 goals in its last six games.
Boston Bruins
The Bruins parted ways with longtime head coach Claude Julien earlier in the week as the team has flirted with missing the playoffs for the third-straight season.
The Bruins find themselves occupying the Eastern Conference’s final playoff spot with 25 games to go, and a win against their biggest rival could help spark some momentum.

While the Bruins rank just 17th in the league with 2.63 goals per game, they’ve averaged 4.33 goals per game over their last six. Scoring has not been the issue, but the same can’t be said about goaltending.
Tuukka Rask has allowed at least three goals in each of his last seven starts, something that must be addressed if Boston wants to make the postseason.
NHL Betting Trends:

- Canadiens are 7-3 SU in their last 10 vs. the Bruins
- Canadiens are 6-5 in back-to-back games.

Free Montreal Canadiens vs. Boston Bruins NHL Hockey Prediction:
Neither team is playing great hockey at the moment, and the Bruins are a complete mess thanks to the recent firing of Claude Julien. While the offense has been there, the defense has not.
Montreal, on the other hand, has owned the rival Bruins over the last two years. The Canadiens have won 7 of the last 10 in the series and will catch Boston on a back-to-back where the Bruins are just 1-7 this season.
