Minnesota, coming off a 4-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks, head to the nation’s capital to take on the Washington Capitals.
Washington, coming off four straight losses, need to get this slump figured out and will look to do so against a tough Minnesota Wild squad.
Minnesota Wild
Leading the Central Division by a single point, the Minnesota Wild need every point possible in order to hold off the Chicago Blackhawks, who sit in 2nd place in the division. The Wild are having a great year and will look to keep that top spot heading to the playoffs.
Minnesota has been brilliant offensively, averaging 3.33 goals per game, 2nd best in the National Hockey League. Defensively, the team has been almost as impressive. Sitting 4th in the NHL in goals against, the Wild give up just 2.43 goals per game.

Center Mikael Granlund is having his best season by far. In 67 games, he has 23 goals and 40 assists. Over the last five games, he has two goals and two assists.
Eric Staal has been an important member of this team as well. He has 22 goals and 30 assists. Over his last five, he has five goals and an assists. He has two multi-goal games in that span.
Washington Capitals
It’s been an uncharacteristically poor stretch for the Washington Capitals. Losers of four straight, the Caps haven’t played well offensively or defensively. The team ranks 1st in the league in goals against, giving up an average of 2.24 goals per game.
However, over the four-game losing streak, Washington has given up an average of 4.25 goals per game. On offense, the team averages 3.21 goals per game but has scored just 2.0 per game over the last four.

One could point to the lack of offensive production for captain Alex Ovechkin as part of the problem. He doesn’t have a single goal over his last 10 games and has just two assists in that span. His slump is affecting the Capitals but he isn’t the only problem.
The defense has been inconsistent and newly acquired defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk has already had a negative effect on the team. He is currently serving a two-game suspension for a charging hit and won’t be available for the game against Minnesota.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Minnesota is 15-4 ATS in the last 19 games on the road
- Washington is 1-4 SU in the last five games
Free Minnesota Wild vs. Washington Capitals NHL Hockey Prediction:
Washington has struggled over the past few games but is still one of the toughest teams in the NHL. Against Minnesota, I like the Capitals to grab the W and break this four-game losing streak.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Over 5.5
Neither team has played up to its defensive capabilities recently. I think this game will see quite a few goals and the OVER is a solid bet here.
